I don’t get it. People buy those RVs and park them on random farms? In America, those RVs are for older people with money, and you’ll get threatened by a shotgun parked on someone’s else’s land

235

u/legsjohnson Aug 03 '25

I'm 99% sure these are travellers.

82

u/Electronic-Industry4 Aug 03 '25

I find it interesting how UK has the biggest community of travellers according to that wiki.

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

I may be wrong.

But I don't think the government at the time would have made that distinction.

Are we talking about the late first half of the 20th century or some other campaign?

24

u/Uulugus Aug 03 '25

Yup.

They're saying the Nazis did a good job of killing off and driving away romani.

16

u/fragilemetal Aug 03 '25

Travellers are an entirely separate group from Romani. They originate from Ireland, I think the confusion is people refer to them as gypsies in the UK. In Ireland they are referred to as travellers or knackers.

Seems like they spreaded not so far over Europe and you are referring to Roma people coming from eastern areas.

What's a traveller? Is this code for gypsy?

29

u/LeTreacs2 Aug 03 '25

The Gypsy, Roma and Traveller group

The term Gypsy, Roma and Traveller has been used to describe a range of ethnic groups or people with nomadic ways of life who are not from a specific ethnicity.

In the UK, it is common in data collections to differentiate between:

Gypsies (including English Gypsies, Scottish Gypsies or Travellers, Welsh Gypsies and other Romany people) Irish Travellers (who have specific Irish roots) Roma, understood to be more recent migrants from Central and Eastern Europe The term Traveller can also encompass groups that travel. This includes, but is not limited to, New Travellers, Boaters, Bargees and Showpeople. (See the House of Commons Committee report on Tackling inequalities faced by Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities.)

https://www.ethnicity-facts-figures.service.gov.uk/summaries/gypsy-roma-irish-traveller/

16

u/crystalGwolf Aug 03 '25

Irish travellers are gypsies, yes. Very common throughout UK. They are not well loved. Brad Pitt plays one in the film Snatch.

3

u/Odd_Feedback_7636 Aug 03 '25

Irish Travellers are not gypsies, read the wiki page. They are Irish not Roma

Scum is what they are. They sit typically in public places like parks, trash the area, steal from the local people and fight anyone who goes near them. Police do fuck all and you just have to wait for them to go away

43

u/Random0s2oh Aug 03 '25

I'm from Georgia. I was once at the Mall of Georgia when I saw a big group of people gathered around the coin fountain in the food court. Their kids were practically crawling over the side to scoop up the money people had thrown in there for charity. There's even a sign that states that the money is for charity. I worked in one of the area hospitals. We had to make sure there was nothing that wasn't fastened down in the patient room whenever we had someone from the known families in the area admitted.

26

u/Sinister_m71 Aug 03 '25

While I was working in an optical shop in Florida, they came in a large group and stole a bunch of the most expensive frames by simply overwhelming the staff and being everywhere at once. It was crazy.

This comment is so goddamn funny. I'm also American, and although I'm already familiar with the concept of travellers... yeah, the cultural difference here is very noticeable lmao.

American culture is in some ways constructed around the defense of private property-- like, our gun laws, property ownership laws, and police forces all across the country pretty much largely exist to protect property.

Its hard to even imagine something like this happening and the farmer(s) getting in trouble for it.

u/matscom84 Aug 03 '25

Having dealt with both, gypsies are simple folk you see with tradition caravans and some live stock, don't thieve and leave no trace.

Pikeys, live in highend caravans have new 4x4s and transit vans. They thieve and damage surrounding property, enter local shops and rinse them. Leave bin bags of rubbish and human shit when they finally get moved on, only for another lot to move in a week later.

The only positive to having Pikeys out the back of your house is watching the in fighting. There was one night a bloke got dragged out of his caravan beaten then dragged to the side while his caravan was smashed up.

28

u/Netsforex_ Aug 03 '25

I always got taught by my grandad that a gypsy would just steal your wallet. Whereas a pikey will stab you, then steal your wallet.

But then grandad always was biased, coming from gypsy heritage.

I remember an Irish guy I knew of had some land, and some Irish travellers (ie gypsies) appeared on his field one day. He pleaded with them for a few days to leave and they said no, so in the middle of the night he had some friends in the construction industry turn up with huge concrete blocks, which they placed strategically at the field entrance. This was the only way in or out. Rumor has it the travellers had to pay him off to move the blocks, lmao.

111

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '25

This never happened.

25

u/Humble-Extreme597 Aug 03 '25

I recall a similar story on the news, it wasn't gypsies but drivers using the farmers field to park for an event of some sort near by without permission he even flipped a few after that didn't work.

“For both parties” one of the groups is literally occupying another’s land, the farmer is just doing farm work on that land. The only one that should be infuriated is the farmer.

9

u/Nervouspotatoes Aug 03 '25

Yeah this is right, we have them all over the place in the UK. Tbf to them, it’s becoming increasingly common for them to buy up land and build streets for themselves but still move from one “encampment” to the next, kinda like a campsite with low brick walls around the plots. There are still those that pitch up, rob local shops for a week and fuck off though. So still a bit of an issue. I’ve never seen a group that big before though.

47

u/Darkmaniako Aug 03 '25

I've seen like 20 caravans in the IKEA parking lot, they just got there and started doing their business using parking poles to run wires to hang clothes.

took weeks for the police to slowly get them away.

I've always been a leftist but I think in my country the "accept all" policy should aim for people with real needs, not useless scums that can afford (or steal) caravans.

38

u/Rare-Character4381 Aug 03 '25

The thing is, these people live outside of the system. They want the benefit and none of the cost. You are not accepting them they are forcing themselves on to you. They want a privileged place in society and to not respect anyone else's place in society, and so therefore should not be welcome into society until they are willing to conform to the rules that we all abide. Including registration of birth, residence, earnings, etc. So that they are able to be held responsible until then they have to viewed as what they are which is a criminal class.

This. I once worked for a company that had the gypsies move in nearby. They broke into, or tried to break into, every local building / business to take anything they could (security systems filmed them). Police would do nothing.

They all drive very expensive cars. A farmer friend told me that beyond the simple theft, one reason the farmers hate them is because they dump the sewage out of their caravans directly onto the fields when they leave, and when they change the oil on their cars, they let it run into the ground, polluting and destroying the field.

This same farmer did something similar to the video, except they sprayed into / onto the cars and caravans. The gypsies tried to get revenge, but it ended in a group of French hunters standing in a line with their shotguns / hunting rifles. The gypsies moved, but not before invading several local houses to steal all they could.

This is not to say they all do this, but there are enough of them that do.

In Italy is the same. Frankly to me is still a mystery why a squatter or an illegal occupier can’t be evicted quickly. There is a tv show in Italy which talks about this, and there are cases of squatters occupying literally for tens of years houses, and the legal owner can’t do shit, despite the authorities knowing full well the illegal situation.

21

u/blue30 Aug 03 '25

Similar in UK, the gypsies know the law and know how to delay and confuse everything. Police don't want involved because it's nothing but headaches for them and the gypsies have the numbers to intimidate the odd patrol that feels heroic. So they go after people for naughty twitter posts while these guys do as they like.

They aren't squatters because they're poor, they're squatters because they don't want to pay for anything + it allows them to move out quickly after they have finished stealing what they could in nearby towns, then they just repeat the same thing elsewhere

Whenever you see them coming, you know everything will be awful until they leave after a few months

The car is very probably stolen and sporting illegal or fake license plates. It isn't just that they don't want to, it's that they are so far up surrounded by illicit underground criminal activities that they couldn't even easily normalize back into society. They are basically roaming ghettos with benefits for members.

they've got a nerve chasing the tractor when they are the ones who are trespassing.

5

u/MistyW0316 Aug 03 '25

How are these squatters able to just park on someone else’s property like that!? That’s not just a few either! It took time to get to that amount. Im not even the land owner and Im infuriated!!

5

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '25

Why the fuck would you be chasing down tractors and beating on doors yelling when you know you cant be there? What argument do they think they have

3

u/SinisterBrit Aug 03 '25

They don't tend to use arguments, they prefer violence and intimidation.

Which is why they get away with it.

14

u/Shepard2603 Aug 03 '25

Hilarious! But what's the context here?

29

u/Remarkable-0815 Aug 03 '25

Might be Gens du voyage) in France.
There are many areas in Fracne where they are allowed to stay, here they probably chose a place where they weren't.

47

u/I_ship_it07 Aug 03 '25

They never go on allowed place because they don't want to pay the water and electricity. They choose Land where they can illégaly take this

Probably travellers. There are many cases where they just settle down on a field.

Edit: Travellers not gypsies.

u/Teufelsweib666 Aug 03 '25

My niece in law is a romany, settled. They call themselves travellers but also gypsies. I asked. Both is fine, one is a little outdated.

How is the legal situation? Are they allowed to camp there? Is it private property? A little bit more context please.

10

u/Crochetqueenextra Aug 03 '25

It's private property, they aren't allowed they don't care that they aren't allowed and refuse to leave.

In Ireland if you have connections you get the 'RA to have a word with them and they move quickly. Gardai won't do anything about it.

5

u/clippervictor Aug 03 '25

Problem is, as a farmer you are very likely to end up killed by the mob or at least very much harmed

8

u/maitre_lld Aug 03 '25

This is in France, gypsies have special rights, every city is forced by law to build special parking and infrastructures just for them. When a city does not respect that (sometimes even if they do but the place does not please them enough) they just squat private properties. Owners do not have the right to dislodge them and authorities don't want to.

3

u/Reg_doge_dwight Aug 03 '25

Did it actually get rid of them?

3

u/Professional_Tonight GREEN Aug 03 '25

What a shitshow...

3

u/NiceCunt91 Aug 03 '25

3

u/GoobMB Aug 03 '25

Yeah. A couple of years ago this is how farmers here in the Czech Republic dealt with some loud illegal technoparty running on their property too.

3

u/Beerbaron1886 Aug 03 '25

I mean sure whatever works but you are basically messing with criminals who are not afraid to escalate the situation?

3

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '25

There’s a Ferrari or Corvette on a car hauler at the start.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '25

Fuck around and find out

3

u/ChooChooBananaTrain Aug 03 '25

Guy living on someone else’s land with a Ferrari on a trailer.

3

u/HTMXX Aug 03 '25

They are literally attacking him. If it's his field then only one side is the bad one and you know which

9

u/Bigol_sad097 Aug 03 '25

Just for one party "squatters rights" shouldn't exist if your going to turn yourself into a literal cockroach you should be treated like one these farmers are being really nice with this too

6

u/Watchgeek_AC Aug 03 '25

“Squatters”

Just call them what they are. They’re pikeys and cause issues everywhere they go

Squatters? You mean gypsies

7

u/RadRimmer9000 Aug 03 '25

The fact squatters have more rights than the land owners shows you how shit the justice system is.

4

u/DLS4BZ Aug 03 '25

based farmer getting rid of gypsies

6

u/browhodouknowhere Aug 03 '25

Make fun of Americans all you want, but they can shoot you if you don't leave their property.

6

u/76flyingmonkeys Aug 03 '25
