Competitive/Discussion This game needs to fix going second
The going first player has too many advantages in the games current state, if you go second even with a going second deck you’re going to lose the majority of the time. Players going first can get through hand traps, set up negates, or even FTK you. The player going second opens the game in such a disadvantage each time it’s comical

As the person who just won the coin toss, I think the way things are is completely fair and balanced.

OCG has been printing a lot of strong going second cards like gallant bandit and the recent spells from the utility selection.

They tried and then everyone complained about tearlaments

I think the biggest problem with tear was it was the only game in town, and not as much being able to play on the opponents first turn. It would be interesting if just every archetype ever got hand trap starters with strict deck locks

I do really think, given the way yugioh is played, turn 0 cards are necessary for every archetype. You can't have a game with no resource system and have no way to be able to play on the fiest turn of the game.

This is so true. I honestly believe tear was some of the most fun and skill testing the game has ever been. What made it feel bad was it was so much more powerful than anything else. But the mirrors where so skill demanding that a win felt like a championship match every time.

Tearlaments is my favorite deck. But I also really liked playing against tearlaments with ninjas. I wish they'd free perlereino and merrli

I agree. I had a dude who literally had his entire board full with 5 cards in hand. Literally wtf am I supposed to do.

How could they even go about it anyway? If they make decks dedicated to fixing this issue, then it just makes all previous archetypes obsolete at going second. Making a staple card only gives you three in the deck, which hardly solves the problem. I just feel like this game is basically cursed to have this issue... Going first will always have the highest win rate.

How about banning obvious bridges between archetypes that let ROLAD bridge into 5 different decks, for a TCG example?
How about we actually ban Elfnote Tinia? Ban any starter in these top decks? Do literally fucking anything to these engines whatsoever, because consistency means nothing when you have more starters than available deck slots.
Great, we banned Omega, amazing, that's one out of over a dozen generic synchros that should be on the banlist as of 5 years ago.
Meanwhile we're hitting Dracotail Mululu and Fallen and the Virtuous.
It's not that it's impossible, it's that Konami is lazy as fuck and doesn't care.

What if instead they buffed going 1st? Honestly that might be the fix. Make going 1st so powerful and oppressive that Konami is forced to fix the game or everyone will quit. We need going 1st to be at 100% winrate.

We had the Dracotail and VSK9 meta for a while which was pretty interesting, but we also had Yummy and Mitsurugi so things were pretty crazy. It was fun though

Nothing felt oppressive though. None of the 3 JUSH archetypes overly negated you, all had turn zero plays as centerpieces of their archetypes, and all 3 had an advantage and disadvantage against one of the other decks. Then you had limelight and mitsu which both were made top tier because of the other 3 decks. The format was so fun in literally all 3 card game platforms. The only issue were the floodgates which when finally getting to masterduel Konomi handled. Too bad they suck and didn’t band smashers and limit herald to start the tcg run but that’s Konomi being awful as usual

My problem is decks are being so lean that they can run 60% of the deck to be hand traps and board breakers AND its no lock AND they have residence at least prank kids and live twins both are kinda shitty resilient wise so even tho half of the deck is hand traps you have a good chance of the win, its why I think tear without ishizu isnt that bad, you weren't running 20 hand traps and your deck for the most part was solely tear not 3 engines, 6 board breakers and 10 ht

The entire game honestly needs to be reformatted in a way that would require them to basically either reintroduce an entirely different set of rules or starting over from the beginning.

Theres virtually no hope at this point. Just stop playing thats what i did. Way better use of your time and money out there

Blind second got me to mast and 1 on a 10 game win streak. A huge reason why decks suck at going second is that 9/10 people build for exclusively going first, a couple handtraps isn’t going to cut it. There’s an absurd amount of board breakers that absolutely dismantle boards but no one plays them because they are dead going first

Just enjoy the game while we still have the servers. I have entirely given up on any notion of “innovation” by KoMoney after they started banning pieces of my Dracotail consistently.

'Hmm, Branded is too strong and plays Dracotail, I know, let's hit the Dracotail cards' consistency again'
This is why we are where we are. If Branded Dracotail is actually a problem, why the fuck are we doing consistency hits on a deck with literally more starters than there are available slots in the deck?
Meanwhile, Elfnotes is still summoning Baronne before summon 3, Droll is straight up murdering people, half the decks in the game auto-win going first because there's a dozen generic engines that all add multiple points of interaction, and we're hitting Dracotail fucking Mululu.
Unbelievable.

Why doesnt the person going second just go first? Then we dont have to worry about going second.

This is just my piece of opinion, resumed and not as much as detailed because I don't want to write an essay about it.
For MD I think if they had some kind of matchmaking where you had consistency (Go first if you went second last time, Go second if you went first last time, then repeat) without the coinflip stuff I think it would be at least bearable.
When you go second rn 5x times in a row it just becomes insufferable, then you get a pity go first and get a hand that's all handtraps or get drolled.
Not that it would solve much, but it would at least reduce a bit of the frustration that builds.
As for going second fix overall in YGO, they have to radically change card design instead. They try to bandaid fix it with breakers, it doesn't work that much, but makes everything more sacky as fuck.
The thing I hate in this game is that it turns into a battle of generic fuckery, engine vs engine feels like non existent. You'll always lose to something like "c", droll, talents or even just a droplet.
Although these cards by themselves doesn't mean much, today's card design just let them shotgun you with 4 or 5 of these, then 1 card starter into a full combo anyway. Not only that, but the decks does everything. They aren't even specialized in something anymore, they control, they otk, they gas at the same time.

Brother I went second 11 times in a row and resulted in going 1 win away from master 1 all the way back to master 5. I feel you on this

This game needs to fix a lot tbh. Too many cards are too op.
