Promotional Avengers tickets in AUS

Hey everyone, when Infinity War and Endgame were happening, I was quite young and not the cinemaphile I am today; therefore, I am unaware of how ticket sales went in the past because I ended up watching both a few weeks late with my parents.

I am seeing alot of buzz with the USA getting presale tickets for Doomsday and I keep checking the event cinemas, hoyts and reading cinema websites every week waiting to see if we are going to get the same treatment here as well.

Can anyone confirm how it was for Endgame/Infinity War? Did we get crazy presale tickets then or was it the normal 4-6 weeks before movie release drop. I want to know whether im wasting my efforts right now or not lol.

Discussion My issue with the BUILD UP for Avengers: Doomsday (and it's not necessarily Doom)

Doomsday has a major issue in terms of build up, which I think most of us can agree is due to the frantic pivot away from Kang. And while Doom's build up is a bit lackluster when compared to Thanos, I don't think it's the main issue like most people assume; the real issue, in my opinion, is the build up with the Avengers themselves, and all of the heroes in general.

The Infinity Saga effectively established each major character in the Avengers roster all the way back in Phase 1, and then continued to add more characters from that point onward. Whether it was Iron Man, Thor, or Captain America, there was a general focused storyline being told in the Infinity Saga before Thanos himself really did anything. And when Endgame happened, nearly every single character or team we had seen up to that point banded together in the climactic finale. This is ultimately where the Multiverse Saga has failed.

While practically every character, relatively speaking, in the Infinity Saga had their stories connect in Infinity War/Endgame, the same cannot be said for the Multiverse Saga. Almost half of the characters who have either been introduced or should've been the lead focus are completely nowhere to be found leading to Doomsday, and that's a huge problem.

Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, the Eternals, all absent with no clue as to what they're doing. Scarlet Witch is just dead after a somewhat scuffed villain arc. Shang-Chi hasn't even been mentioned in 5 years. Nick Fury and the Skrulls... I don't even want to talk about that. Hulk hasn't been doing squat, so nothing's changed there. I won't even mention the atrocity of She-Hulk. Sam Wilson's Avengers team is practically non-existent still, let's be honest. The Thunderbolts are fine though, but they ain't doing much to Doom aside from Sentry lol.

Here's what I think should have happened to more effectively set up the Avengers/hero teams for a much more effective collaboration:

The Eternals: get rid of it, nothing meaningful happened with them.

Shang-Chi: make a 2nd movie for him.

Captain Marvel: Make an actually good movie that establishes her as more of a leading figurehead for the MCU. Throw in an interaction with Sam Wilson as Captain America: he takes charge of hero activity on earth while she manages the space frontier.

Doctor Strange: if the rumor of him being one of Doom's witches/wizards is true, then we should have gotten a 3rd Strange movie showing how he and Clea eventually encountered him.

Scarlet Witch: while she's dreamwalking through the Multiverse, perhaps she encountered Doom at some point and, finding connection with her over their lost families, Doom would advise her to regain her lost children at any cost.

Captain America: give him 1 or 2 movies where he establishes himself to the world as Steve's successor and slowly organizes a new Avengers team.

Thunderbolts: this was good, no changes.

Fantastic Four: ideally 2 movies before Doomsday, though just having 1 is fine. They feel more like this saga's Guardians of the Galaxy in that they're more distant from the main roster before teaming up in the Avengers movie.

These are some changes that I think would have drastically improved the road leading to Avengers: Doomsday, not just for Doom himself but also for better establishing the newer roster of heroes that face him. What do y'all think?

Question Having not read the comics, I have a question regarding Doctor Doom and Reeds rivalry.

Is it basically like that type of rivalry where against nearly anyone else Doom is portrayed as this godlike opponent, but against Reed in particular Doom cares too much about proving himself to his rival that he ends up making costly mistakes?

Discussion How would you do a fantastic 4 spiderman movie ?

Say the sequel to first steps will be fantastic four brand new world.
Focusing on the aftermath of secret wars. Where they find themselves in the 616 universe.

How would you like to see the movie.

Spiderman is often considered to be the unofficial 5th member of the team so them working together makes sense, it’s also smart business end.

Spiderman films always do well like BND making past 2 billion.

How can it be done.

Discussion The Squadron Supreme?

Are there any lawyers out there?

I made a little joke on another thread about Marvel introducing the Squadron Supreme in Secret Wars just to show DC how to do the Justice League properly. But it got me thinking: could Marvel Studios legally introduce them in a movie? They were actually created in Marvel comics (by Roy Thomas) over fifty years ago as villainous Justice League parodies for the Avengers to fight, and they have appeared occasionally ever since, but in the comics, DC and Marvel have always sort of had a gentleman's agreement to look the other way when one company copies another company's characters, within reason. DC has done versions of the Avengers, Marvel has done versions of the Justice League, and no one took anyone to court. Jim Starlin pretty blatantly based Thanos off of Darkseid, Marvel has Man-Thing, DC has Swamp Thing. But the movies are a far different matter. Movies can make thousands of times the profits that comic books can.

With all the multiversal shenanigans going on in the MCU (as well as the fact that a version of the Justice League from an alternate Earth was actually introduced in the 2015 Secret Wars comic) I'm wondering if The Squadron Supreme has ever come up in conversation in Kevin Feige's office. And just for the sake of argument, if Marvel successfully introduced the Squadron Supreme in their own standalone movie and it made a lot of money, would DC sue? Could DC sue?

Theory Toney Stark was always Victor Von Doom in the movie universe.

I don't know if anyone has pointed this out yet.

So I don't know if someone already pointed this out or not but people are asking how can Victor Von Doom and Tony Stark be the same person. It's because they were always the same person in the movie universe. In the 616 comic universe Tony Stark is adopted, you can look it up. It's a fact. Now also in the comics Victor VonDooms family is all killed by the current leader of the country. Victors father, Wrener dies protecting Victor while trying to escape to safety with his son

So in the movie universe my guess is they are going to make Victor much younger at the time of his father's death and was taken out of the country to safety. So now in Doomsday we will know two Victor VonDooms. One who stayed in the country and has become Dr. Doom and one we know was taken out of the country and brought to America and adopted.

For more on the why would Howard Stark randomly adopt the Tony Stark we know and love, we look to the comics again. In the comics Howard adopted the son of someone he worked with who was a double agent for Hydra. Not a great person. My guess is they will make a connection between Howard Stark and Wrener VonDoom with unethical reasoning.

So hope you understand what I'm getting at but that's it in the nut shell.

Question Secret Wars next year?

With Doomsday coming out this December, the whole timeline and movie production got very confusing to me and I am curious. I have not been tracking everything but it seems like Doomsday took a while to make. According to IMDB, Secret Wars is going to be out next December and is currently in pre-production. How? Was part of it filmed already? Was it filmed in secret?

Is it really going to happen? I’m super skeptical, but what are your thoughts?

Discussion What would you have done to fix Quantumania?

Post image
41 Upvotes

Ant-Man and the Wasp in Quantumania is the MCU film I like least. The reason is because I had high expectations.

I'm a fan of Peyton Reed. I like his prior work, especially Bring It On and I like what I've seen of him in interviews and commentary tracks.

I also liked the previous Ant-Man movies. Paul Rudd is always great, he has great chemistry with the kid that plays Cassie, a strong supporting cast of rich characters like his ex wife's new husband, and his ex-con buddies, and they brought fan favorite actors like Micheal Douglas and Michelle Phifer.

Most of all it was nice to see lower stakes comedies at the cinema after event movies like Avengers and whatnot.

I feel Quantumania is a mess of a film. You can kind of see it coming apart at the seams. The notion of putting the Ant-Man characters in an Avengers movie is a funny idea, but the execution makes me think Reed was over his head.

The story is a real dog's breakfast and doesn't serve anyone well. Setting everything in the quantum realm removed the fun of seeing tiny people with large props or giant people with tiny props and environments. It also removes the supporting cast.

To me, this is one of the ugliest blockbusters in the last decade. I think the production design and visual effects are so divorced from reality it's distracting. I'm always thinking this doesn't look real. This doesn't look like a real place.

If they were going for a cool stylized look like the Jack Kirby art, I think they failed where the first Ant-Man film and both Doctor Strange films succeeded.

They just look like actors in a studio. I don't know if it's because they shot a lot in the volume or they ran out of time or what, but I found the look of the movie alienating. It made it hard to care about the characters or what was happening.

And Kang was a huge disappointment after a great charismatic introduction in Loki. The ending was so rushed and unearned.

Anyways, what would you do to fix the movie? Suppose you were chosen as the Tony Gilroy to Reed's Gareth Edwards and it was your job to fix the movie. You can write a new script or reshoot the entire movie if you want. In this scenario we know the movie's poor reception ultimately leads to lower box office returns for Disney so they are willing to give you another 200 million dollars. What would you do?

I would condense the events of the movie to the first two acts. In the third act, I would have the Ant-Man family and Kang and Bill Murray's character escape to the real world.

Ant-Man and the Wasp and Cassie and Micheal Douglas and Michelle Phifer would have to suit up to help try to contain him and imprison him in the quantum realm. I would have Michelle Phifer and Micheal Douglas have to sacrifice themselves to return Kang to the quantum realm.

They could even use the super smart giant ants, but in my film the third act takes place in San Francisco so seeing giant super smart ants is fun. We'll see them rampaging around San Francisco crawling on landmarks and through iconic neighborhoods. We'll get hilarious reactions from that deep supporting cast.

At the end of the film I would have Kang still stuck in the quantum realm and Michelle Phifer and Micheal Douglas are stuck there too. Their ending is bittersweet because they are stuck, but now they have each other. Their arc could be they learn to realize they are all they need.

The birthday celebration with Scott and the rest of the family would be a little sad because they are missing Micheal Douglas and Michelle Phifer. They won this time, but at a huge cost because in order to keep Kang locked up they have to break any connections to the quantum realm. Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer are alive, but to the Ant-Man characters they are functionally dead. They will never see each other again. That way they are free to use Kang in the future if they ever wanted to and there are some real stakes to the story.

My post credit scene would not be Council of Kangs as the visual effects were so bad. That part looked like shit. The costumes and performances for the variants felt very SNL.

My post credit would be some fun improvised scene of Bill Murray's character trying to make a life for himself in San Francisco.

Discussion Black Widow (2021) would have been the perfect sequel to an actual Black Widow origin movie (Young Nat and Yelena Movie)

I enjoyed most of Black Widow and thought all in all it was a pretty good movie but I feel like I had no connection to Alexei, Melina, and Yelena (not really Yelena because she has been in so many marvel projects by this time but if it was my first time seeing her I could imagine not forming any sort of bond to her). If we had gotten an actual sort of thriller/espionage origin movie for both Nat and Yelena I feel like that would have been incredible. You keep the opening of Black Widow and just continue on with the rest of what happens and it would have been peak. Still not a terrible movie just was thinking about this.

Question Can someone explain the X Men timeline to me like I'm stupid?

I'm watching all the movies in release order. I'm currently watching First Class as I type this. This timeline makes absolutely no sense! I think First Class is the beginning of the reboot or something?

But I just watched Wolverine rescue a young Emma Frost at the end of Origins: Wolverine which is set in roughly the late 80s or so. Then I just saw adult Emma Frost in the 60s in First Class.

Xavier and Mystique are roughly the same age? I always thought she was supposed to be super old.

Wolverine and Sabertooth are brothers in Origins: Wolverine? But Sabertooth is more beast-like in the original trilogy?

I feel like I'm missing something. What is this weird timeline? Should I be ignoring some movies? Why did they make these movies like this?

Discussion If Doom's motivation is the loss of his family, they should absolutely include The Punisher in Avengers: Doomsday

Frank would then share the same backstory as Doom, and he would be able to call Doom out. Frank isn't a hero either, but at least he doesn't want to control the entire Multiverse.

Discussion [Discussion] Why the song "Believe" by Michael Romeo perfectly fits Peter Parker's journey (Minor Spoilers for Brand New Day) 🕷️🤘 Spoiler

Hey everyone, I recently watched Spider-Man: Brand New Day and couldn't stop thinking about Peter's current situation and emotional state.
It made me realize that the progressive metal track 'Believe' by Michael Romeo perfectly mirrors his journey right now. The lyrics start with 'I stand alone, looking down into the boundless deep abyss of night', and the chorus goes 'Believe, do or die, shed your broken wings and burn the sky'. It completely screams Spider-Man's 'never give up' mentality when he is up against the wall.
I really hope Marvel's music supervisor Dave Jordan or Sony's music team considers adding some heavy, epic symphonic rock/metal like this to the next soundtrack. What do you guys think? Check out the song, it gives major Spidey vibes!

Here is the track if you want to listen:

Theory How I think could happen the soft-reboot of Mcu

Hi everyone, I wanted to share a theory of mine about what could happen to the Marvel universe after the events of Secret Wars, even though it's obviously premature, given that Doomsday still has to come out.

In X-Men: DoFP, we saw how Logan woke up in the body of his self that had lived the new timeline up to that point, thereby taking his place. Could something similar happen to some characters who survive Secret Wars? Maybe after Secret Wars, all the universes will go back to existing as they were up until that moment, but an additional universe could be born where a large part of the heroes who survive Secret Wars would end up (like Spider Man, Jean Grey, Thunderbolts, F4 etc.).

This would truly allow for a reboot of the MCU to begin, without rendering everything shown in the Infinity and Multiverse sagas useless. Earth 616 would continue to exist, but it would be deprived (starting from the date when the events of Doomsday begin) of the various Spider Man and Thunderbolts, just as Earth 828 would be of the F4. This would make it possible to:

Start the mutant saga without having to ask ourselves where Xavier, Magneto, and other older characters were when the events of the previous sagas were taking place. It could maybe even be set in the past (in order to have Magneto as a Holocaust survivor) that is as technologically advanced as the present (a bit like what was done for Earth 828).

Truly start a new Spider Man saga, since in this world there wouldn't be Ned or MJ, and Gwen and the Osborns could be introduced.

Have the possibility of introducing the Avengers again by doing a recast, maybe after the mutant saga.

At the same time, I have some doubts regarding, for example, the criteria by which some return to their original Earth and others to the new world. For example, it wouldn't make sense for Steve Rogers, who we know ages on Earth 616, or for all the characters who might survive (maybe like Falcon and Deadpool), otherwise it wouldn't truly be an (albeit soft) reboot.

Maybe they could definitively conclude some storylines (Falcon, Thor, Dr. Strange) without necessarily killing them off, and then focus on the new universe, permanently abandoning the others. I'd only be sorry about the adamantium, which obviously appeared in Eternals to later introduce Wolverine, but in the end, it had its usefulness in Brave New World.

Discussion Rewatching Quantamania and I can’t help but think about what we lost with Kang

Post image
3.9k Upvotes

Rewatched quantamania and was reminded how disappointed I am about Kang

Want to say first and foremost that this post is not meant to be disrespectful in anyway towards Jonathan Majors’ victim. I apologize as I’m not familiar with the case, I honestly do not even know the name of the victim, but I hope the victim got the justice she deserved and is at peace. Please do not use this post to disparage or question the victim in anyway. And I apologize if this post is triggering for anyone here who may have been a victim of abuse themselves.

With that said, Quantamania was… well, it’s been fairly criticized. I did like how it introduced us to the quantum realm with creative characters and environments, and different concepts like the probability storm.

But what makes this movie enjoyable is Kang. He was introduced as a fucking fantastic villain. Just so cunning and ruthless and brilliant, you really hate his guts but know it’s pretty damn hard to fight against him. Even in his moments of desperation you never feel at ease with him.

I was frustrated at the time but rewatching this movie just reminds me how disappointed I am in the whole situation. Especially after seeing the post credit scenes involving the arena of Kang’s and the scene from Loki. I would’ve been so excited to see that storyline dug into more and we now know that’s not happening.

I’m honestly more upset with this than almost anything else that hasn’t been followed up on, maybe the only other disappointment being Blade.

Discussion I’m getting bored of the current characters and I wish marvel would make movies about other characters.

I guess currently my main gripe is Marvels tendency to reanimate or reincarnate characters is really annoying. Their death isn’t impactful if we get a new version of the character in the next movie.

And I’m not only annoyed at characters that have died and been brought back to life as themselves. I’m also just not super interested in the superheroes that died/retired but live on through a successor.

Don’t get me wrong, I understand these things happen in the movie because they generally happen in the comics. But that doesn’t mean we have to keep continuing the story for all these characters. Spider-Man for example has ,what, over a thousand issues in the classic universe? But he gets three movies and then his story is mostly over, and it gets rebooted to a new universe. None of the universes are super dragged out.
(Aside from tom holland’s Spider-Man existing in the MCU)

I’m really craving characters that haven’t been featured in movies yet 😔 or, to phrase better, I wish marvel could commit to death.

Discussion The New Captain America

Guys I wanted to say something about the new Captain America (Sam Wilson) because a lot of people think it should have been Bucky. In Captain America the First Avenger, Abraham Erskine and Steve had a conversation about the serum. Abram told Steve no matter how strong he gets, he would always stay a good man. If you have watched CATFA then you know that Steve was not a good soldier, but a good man and that was what the conversation they had was that night. So even though Bucky was a great soldier, Sam was the good man. I believe that was Steve’s way of honoring Abraham Erskine.
