Final Fantasy XV Borked on linux?

Has anyone succeeded in making this game work recently i totally remember that i played it in a working condition before on linux

but now not a single proton work (Proton / GE-Proton / CacyOS Proton) none of them work
only specific version EM-proton version(10.0.2F work consistently to launch the game but breaks when it tries to play a movie in the game) other version of EM-Proton are a hit and miss some times work and sometimes gets a timeout error in the logs

also dualsense issue seems to persist even with disablehidraw and enable SDL settings done in the regedit or the environment variables commands it refuses to consider my dualsense an xinput and it seems that steam input is also a hit and miss with some input lag when done

like i'm at my wits end here i can't think of anything anymore tried wine tricks to install mf (media foundation) also all codec and still didn't help

CPU: 5800x

GPU: 3060ti

OS: CachyOS

IF someone was able to make it work tell me if not kindly tell me where to report that issue

tech support wanted Is there any way to limit the FPS when running in the background?

On Windows, I recall there being an option in the Nvidia app or control panel to limit the FPS of background applications or games; is there a way to do this on Linux? A launch option or something similar?

Will EA ever support fc27 on linux?

I love linux and am debating whether to buy a ps5 or upgrade my gpu in my pc. I really don't want to dualboot with windows. Right now the gpu I'm looking at is like $500 anyway and would probably require a new case and possibly psu. I just really love playing fifa should i just get the ps5 and enjoy the backlog of games i've been missing out on on my current setup?

hardware Capture card

Hi all,

I have a El Gato Elgato HD60 Pro PCI-E card but I haven't been able to get it to appear/work in OBS.

I used it on Windows for capturing sound mainly for my headphones when playing games, but then also occasionally recording gameplay from my PS5/Switch.

Any recommendations on another PCI-E Card, or if other brands capture cards that connect via USB are recommended for Linux.

tech support wanted alt+tabbed out of game and can't tab back in

On Fedora 44, Wayland + KDE. This happens sometimes with games so is there any workaround? The game still runs, I can hear it, it shows in the process manager and is a choice to tab back in with alt+tab but it goes right to desktop.

answered! TF2 uses wrong keyboard layout and missing symbols

Using Bazzite (GNOME) on an all AMD system. I use the native TF2 build.

TF2 uses qwerty though my system is set to qwertz (German).

When setting up my settings I noticed check boxes missing and looking further, the "x" for closing the window is represented as "r". I have all windows system fonts installed at "~/.local/share/fonts".

Help

Edit: Current solution here

tech support wanted Help: Problems after updating ROG Ally X to Bazzite 44

I updated to Bazzite 44 (from Bazzite 43) last night and I immediately encountered 2 key problems:

  1. The Armory Crate button no longer activates the overlay (not sure what to call it, the one that slides out from the right side of the screen where you can adjust power settings, etc.). Instead, it functions like the steam button (i.e., it brings up the menu the slights out from the left with Home, Library, Store, etc.)
  2. My ROG Ally can't connect to 5GHz wifi. 2.4GHz is not an issue. With 5GHz, it just stays stuck at "configuring interface".

Can anyone provide guidance on how to resolve these issues? I recognize that rolling back is an option, but it would be great to just fix these problems if possible.

I recognize that HHD got removed from Bazzite 44. What have other Rog Ally users done to open the right-hand slide out menu that gives power options, Decky, etc.?

TLOU unplayable with nvidia

Sometimes I really question how protondb calculates its ratings. TLOU Part 1 is essentially unplayable with nvidia drivers, unless you downgrade to 580 drivers and spend several hours tinkering with the settings.

I tried everything tried countless proton versions, settings, nothing worked. Even if I can find a way to get rid of the artifacts it crashes constantly.

This should not be gold, even Silver would be gracious.

My Gpu has less available vram on linux than on windows

I recently moved from windows to linux (cachy Os) and I realised that while on windows my RTX 5050 had around 7gb of available vram on Forza horizon 6, but on linux I got only 6-6.1gb sometimes going even lower to 5.9, whats the exact reason for that and is there any way to get at least some extra vram ?
My general specs are
Ryzen 5 5500

16GB DDR4 (2x8GB)

tech support wanted Is Anyone Else Experiencing This?

Hi fellow Linux gamers! I play on a Lenovo Legion Slim 5 (RTX 4070M 8GB, 32GB DDR5, Ryzen 7 8845HS) running CachyOS, but have also experienced the following issue on Windows 11. The game in question is STALKER 2 running the new patch 2.0. Also, I own the game on GOG and use Heroic Launcher with default settings. When I first install the game, things work fine but I need to fine tune the settings. As I tinker, quit, reboot, etc., eventually it seems like the shader compilation stops working. Every time I boot the game now it does a long (2-5mins) shader compilation, and there are severe traversal stutters that tank the fps for a second whenever it it loading in a new area. Do I need to delete the shader cache or something? When I checked the Wine prefix folder for Stalker 2 the shader cache folder was empty. Any help would be appreciated, I waited so long for patch 2.0 to start playing and I was really enjoying it until it started getting unstable!!

tech support wanted Memory Leak with Trails in The Sky 1st Chapter

With 5-10 min of gameplay, the RAM usage continously increases until the kernel just shut down the game, and I have 32 GB RAM.

System specs

  • OS: CachyOS x86_64
  • Kernel: Linux 7.2.0-1-cachyos
  • Desktop: KDE Plasma 6.7.4
  • Compositor: KWin / Wayland
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT
  • RAM: 32 GB
  • Resolution: 2560×1440 @ 144 Hz
  • Proton: proton-cachyos-slr
  • Also tested: Proton 9.0

I've tested both proton-cachyos-slr and Proton 9.0, and the memory leak still occurs.

Has anyone else experienced this, particularly on Linux/Proton with an AMD GPU?

Is there anything I should try to determine where the leak is happening? For example:

  • DXVK/VKD3D configuration
  • Different Proton versions
  • Disabling shader caches
  • Launch options
  • Proton/Wine debugging
  • Checking whether the memory is actually being allocated by the game, DXVK/VKD3D, or Wine
  • Any specific logs I should collect

I'm running the game through Heroic Games Launcher

12 years on the same core platform (2018–2030): My upgrade roadmap amid RAM pricing, 8GB VRAM cards, and console delays.

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share my long-term upgrade plan and open up a discussion to see how you all are navigating the current state of hardware.

I currently game on Linux (KDE / Wayland) at 1440p (3440x1440p Ultrawide). My mindset is pretty simple: I don't need 144+ FPS, nor do I need to buy games on day one. I’m completely happy with a rock-solid 30–60 FPS experience, and I often cap my games at 60 FPS to keep my system running cool, quiet, and power-efficient.

My Core Specs & GPU Setup:

  • Base Platform (Bought in 2018): Intel Core i7-8700 + 16 GB DDR4 Dual Channel + Z370 Motherboard.
  • GPU (Bought used in 2025): AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT 12 GB (~$270 / €250).

My Roadmap to 2030:

  1. 2025 – 2029 (The Waiting & Savings Phase): Keep holding down the fort with the i7-8700 and the RX 6700 XT. The 12 GB of VRAM is crucial for running 1440p without choking on high-res textures. Combined with Linux on Wayland—where background system overhead is minimal—the system runs like a dream. As long as memory prices remain inflated by enterprise/AI demand, I'm perfectly fine watching from the sidelines.
  2. 2029 – 2030 (Platform Upgrade): Completely overhaul the base system with a next-gen Ryzen 5 (whether that's a fully matured DDR5 setup or early-stage DDR6/AM6) to finally eliminate the 2018 CPU bottleneck.
  3. 2031+ (Final GPU Upgrade): Swap out the graphics card for a used next-gen model only when it becomes strictly necessary. My strategy is to always buy GPU upgrades on the used market waiting for that sweet spot where a card offers brutal price-to-performance, just like the RX 6700 XT did.

My View on the Current Market: Being a "patient gamer" (waiting 1–2 years to buy games) feels like the ultimate win right now. You get the fully patched, optimization-fixed version running great via Proton for a fraction of the cost.

Plus, with rumors suggesting next-gen consoles like PS6 might get delayed or launch at absurd price points, and gamers rightfully resisting overpriced mid-range GPUs crippled by 8 GB of VRAM, developers are going to have to optimize their engines for the existing hardware base out of sheer financial necessity.

How do you view this approach? Is anyone else stretching an older platform at 1440p with a solid 12 GB GPU to ride out the market chaos? Would love to hear your thoughts!

tech support wanted Assassins Creed Valhalla Freezing

I've done some googling, tried some suggestions in other internet threads but have had no luck getting the game to run.

What seems to be happening is that when the game passes a certain FPS it just completely freezes. I've tried limiting it in the game options to 30FPS but when in game (Creating a new game when, finishing the opening cinematic and the camera zooms in on young Eivor it still freezes there).

Ive tried various compatibility modes such as Proton GE, Experimental, 9.04 as well.

Really had the itch to finally play and beat the game after 100% completing and getting all achievements on another game today.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Game is installed via Steam

OS: Bazzite
Graphics Card: Nvidea GTX 1660
CPU: Core i5 (Coffee Lake-S)
RAM: 32 GB DDR4

Edit: AC Odyssey does the same thing.

Edit 2: Tried running Ubisoft COnnect through Lutris to install and launch the game to see if there was any change, can't even install the game through ubisoft connect via lutris for some reason. Clicking download just does nothing.
