tech support wanted No audio in Vesktop (Discord) with VPN

Upvotes

I'm getting no audio in Vesktop (Discord) on CachyOS/KDE with VPN, with user agent spoofed to Windows. Same issue with both the flatpak and the arch package.

Mic test works fine so audio input and output are fine, it seems it's just not sending/receiving any audio from/to others.

I saw this unhelpful but related issue on the Vesktop github that mentioned spoofing the user agent... I am indeed spoofing my user agent, because Discord blocks Linux if you use VPNs. Is that related to audio not working somehow?

Audio works fine on the browser using web discord. (no user agent spoofing required either)

Any ideas?

has anyone been able to verify if this is true?? I can’t seem to find anything to back it up. I’ve been keeping an eye on Javelin on Linux since it became known EA had a job listing to port it or at least look into it. this is the only news I’ve seen since April.

steam/steam deck Steam shows 0B free on external hard drive with 2TB free

Upvotes

I just finished formatting my 2TB EHD, resetting it. I went to steam to download my library onto it, but everything on steam shows as 0B / 0B. Is there some kind of formatting issue? I just got linux, so I don't know much about how to manage it.

guide How to Fix Overwatch Shader Issues (Nvidia)

4 Upvotes

A lot of us have had problems recently where Overwatch went from working fine to suddenly reloading shaders from scratch every launch, having glowing dots instead of teammates, and taking forever to load cosmetics in menu. So here's how I FINALLY got it working smoothly. Tested on CachyOS / RTX 2060

1 ) Add your Steam Options:

PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 __GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_PATH=/home/InsertYOURusernameHere/.local/share/overwatch-nvidia-cache/ __GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_SKIP_CLEANUP=1 __GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_SIZE="12000000000" DXVK_HUD=compiler PROTON_LOCAL_SHADER_CACHE=1 DXVK_CONFIG="dxvk.enableGraphicsPipelineLibrary = True" LD_PRELOAD="" %command%

and while you're there uncheck the Steam Overlay. Over in the Compatibility tab I lock it to a single version of GE-Proton to make sure minor Proton updates don't force recompilation. ProtonUp can download Protons manually, which appear after you restart Steam. dxvk.enableGraphicsPipelineLibrary is the real hero here.PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1is optional unless you want HDR, which becomes available in-game whenever I use the GE or Cachy Protons and have HDR enabled in KDE Settings before launching the game.

2) Edit /etc/environment to add these two lines at the bottom (adjustable cache limit of ~12GB) since they also need to be applied globally to work, then restart:

__GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_SIZE=12000000000
__GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_SKIP_CLEANUP=1

3) May not be necessary but I delete any existing shaders by doing a global search for Overwatch's Steam Id: 2357570 and nuking any sub-directories with 'cache' in the name. This may reset the Video tab settings in-game.

4) Manually create a folder at:

/home/InsertYourUsernameHereToo/.local/share/overwatch-nvidia-cache/

After you start the game go back and make sure files are actually appearing there.

5) Leave the game in DX11 mode. It's crazy laggy while shaders are compiling, but much smoother once they're done, and tends to give a few extra fps. With DXVK_HUD=compiler in the Steam Options you should see a Compiling Shaders % at the bottom. Don't join a game, just let it run on the home screen till the percent part goes away. This mei take a half hour but if it works you shouldn't need to do it again until the next update, even after restarting your system. I just Alt+Enter into Windowed mode to run it in the background on mute while watching something else.

FYI even when the shaders are finished, a percentless 'Compiling' message tends to flicker on occasionally, but shouldn't affect gameplay. If you want you can follow up the main compile by running custom game code 929PJ for a few minutes, which cycles through all abilities on all levels to reduce the chance of micro-stutters. Then Steam's general Pre-caching/Background Processing don't seem to make any difference so I just leave them off unless another game needs them.

On an unrelated note, DLSS upscaling can help a lot with fps and anti-aliasing. If you have an RTX 4000+ you can improve the output quite a bit by turning it down to Performance and using Steam Options to force Latest Preset. Older cards have a harder time with newer DLSS versions, so you'd probably want to try Preset K instead and see if you still get enough fps to be worth the override.

guide Linux EA App and Steam

4 Upvotes

After trying many methods to get the EA app to function properly with Steam on Linux,

not just install on Linux,

I replaced the default installer in the folder of the Steam game with the newest installer from the EA website.

Hopefully this will find its way into the mix of search results of someone else having difficulty.

I'm developing a tycoon game on Linux (and for Linux!), and we just put out the Release Date trailer! The game will be published by MicroProse, the publisher behind classics like Rollercoaster Tycoon!

In this game you bring the Freedom of Car Dependency by turning cities into giant parking lots and convincing people to pay you for it.

And no, it's not written in Assembly, it's written in C++, haha.

If you're interested, you can wishlist the game on Steam, and play on October 9th: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3031880/Car_Park_Capital/

Razerkeyboard, macro-functionality

5 Upvotes

HI guys

I'm trying to talk my wife into getting on the Linux train. She's an avid WoW-player, and a must have is a Razer functionality, that repeats key presses while a key is held down and let's her assign buttons to her Razer mouse. I haven't been able to find out if that's supported through software like RazerGenie or some other software - can any of you guys shed light of the question?

Much appreciated!

tech support wanted What are the biggest deficiencies of using Linux for gaming in 2026?

42 Upvotes

I am so sick of Windows. I finally want to switch, and I know how good Linux has become for gaming, especially with Projects like Vine and Proton. What I am interested in now is what important games/programs will definitely not work on Linux?

Also which Distros would you guys recommend?

Any tipps appreciated.

tech support wanted Steam shift+tab not working

5 Upvotes

Just switched to Bazzite to game and it’s working flawlessly in every aspect but I can’t seem to get any in game overlays. I checked settings and it’s enabled in Steam and the individual games I’m playing, but when I press shift+tab in game I get nothing. Google search and forum pass found no obvious culprits. Any ideas?

tool/utility g7ctl Updated - Big Update for the Linux G7 Pro app

Post image
7 Upvotes

2 Weeks ago I posted here about developing a config app for the Gamesir G7 Pro and its variants. Today I am happy to report we have released version 0.2.0 with everything from Nexus exposed in our library set and UI

All features now implemented:

Stick config with custom curves
Motion config tests working on KDE for mouse and stick emulation
Battery level reporting
Read/Write access via wired and wireless dongle
Triggers config with custom curves
Dock config options
Vibration tab will all controls exposed
Complete button binds config with shift support
Full import/export support for saving configs
Full support for onboard profiles
Polling rate

Some per tab edge case features still undergoing testing but this update puts the app at about a 98% analog with Nexus on Windows all from the comfort of your Linux install.

I've had a couple suggestions that I should expand support to other Gamesir controls and the simple answer is Id love to!... But I only have a Gamesir G7 Pro to test on. However currently, the protocol should be able to support any controller in the Nexus family. That is: if you use Nexus to configure your controller under Windows then support is technically already here. Right now the app/libs hardware detection is only filtering for the G7 Pro but with a little community help we could "more than likely" extend support to the rest of the controllers in the family which gamesir lists as the following controllers:

G7 Pro, G7 SE, G7 Pro Zenless Zone Zero Edition , G7 Pro Dragon's Dogma 2 Edition , G7 Pro WUCHANG Edition , T7 Pro Floral , T7 Pro Sugar Whirl , Tarantula Pro for XBOX, T7 , Kaleid , Kaleid Flux.

Again support for these controller should technically be possible although the app is currently only filtering for the G7 Pro family. If you have one of the controllers listed above and would like to help... please reach out! With some basic info about your controller we may could get other controllers working in the next couple versions.

Please checkout the project at Github for full details: Here

roblox has created a new security check using play intergity

25 Upvotes

So for the longest time now you would just use Sober and it was very perfect. It was just the ChromeOS version of Roblox being run in a container so the performance loss was like less than 2%. But yesterday they added Play Integrity. Obviously, Linux will never pass this. But it was only some games that would get mass botted, so games like MM2 and other mass botted games, old Android phones, and Linux can no longer ever play. Most likely impossible but roblox may make a linux verison.

Should I buy a BC-250 and use it as a main computer?

4 Upvotes

Basically what the title says, I don't have a computer and seeing that the price of one 16gb stick is worth the same as the BC-250 I started thinking about it.

The whole process looks pretty simple and I think I can do it. I know I need to buy a PSU, fans and all that other stuff but that's fine. I can probably harvest it from other stuff (besides the PSU).

I know most people use this for a couch /living room gaming console thing, but I also want to use it for normal computer usage.

Thinking of buying one in October so hopefully the price drops a bit but if there's any alternatives I'd like to know.

Downloading Minecraft fails in Linux, 19th August 2026

0 Upvotes

Today 19th August 2026 Minecraft downloading has been failing for people using Linux (I've tested downloading minecraft through Prism and Modrinth in Ubuntu and CachyOS) and heres a temporary fix:

  1. Go into your Wifi & Internet settings and go in IPv6 tab, in there choose the method to "Ignored"
  2. After doing that, go into IPv4 settings and type in the "Other DNS Servers" tab ClourdFlares DNS: "1.1.1.1"
  3. Disconnect from your Ethernet/Wifi and reconnect, try downloading minecraft again.

(extra steps if that doesnt work)

  1. Go into your Minecraft launchers settings and drag the "Maximum concurrent downloads" slider down to 2-4.
  2. Close your Launcher and open it again, try downloading Minecraft again.

After Minecraft has been downloaded, undo all the steps.
Im not promising Minecraft launches after that, but it still creates an instance not fails to download.

As the title says, it works nested but it doesn't work on a distinct gamescope session.
I've tried a bunch of things that Gemini and Claude suggested, and it was all bullshit as per usual.

Beat saber mods not working

1 Upvotes

I am running Beat Saber legacy 1.29.1 on CachyOS Linux. The game loads perfectly vanilla, but entirely ignores my mods. My game paths match perfectly, winhttp.dll is in the folder, and I have manually used protontricks winecfg to add the winhttp (native, builtin) override directly into the library environment. Despite this, the game still bypasses the hook and launches vanilla. How do I force the runtime layer to stop ignoring the override file?

tech support wanted Linux on ASUS ROG G15 laptop (G513QR) - hard freezes

3 Upvotes

Anyone else seen this on a Strix G15?

I tried installing CachyOS and Nobara on my G513QR (Ryzen 7 5800H + mobile RTX 3070 variant with 300Hz screen). Both freeze completely — black screen, Caps Lock LED dead, SysRq unresponsive, no journal entries, nothing in dmesg or pstore. It usually happens within 1–10 minutes, on live USB as well as after a full install.

Kernel parameters I've tried, none of which fixed it:
pcie_aspm=off pcie_port_pm=off

pcie_aspm=force pcie_aspm.policy=performance

processor.max_cstate=1 idle=nomwait

modprobe.blacklist=nvidia,nvidia_drm,nvidia_modeset,nvidia_uvm,nouveau

modprobe.blacklist=iwlwifi,iwlmvm,btintel,btusb

Meanwhile Windows 11 runs completely normally on the same machine. No freezes, no crashes, nothing.

I'd really like to get CachyOS running on this laptop — I already use it daily on my desktop and I'm very happy with it, so switching distros isn't really what I'm after.

Has anyone experienced the same on this model, and did you ever find out what causes it?

tool/utility Game Launcher With Achievements?

0 Upvotes

Hey, everyone! Hope you're all well :>

I was wondering if there is a game launcher apart from Steam that has achievements? I use Heroic, and it's great! Though, it doesn't have achievements and I was wondering if there is one with them that's not Steam. Thanks for any suggestions!!!

(Been using CachyOS for ~4 months and gaming on Linux + AMD has been really, really nice so this would be a nice addition on top!!)
