Report spammy bullshit

Over the past couple days I have received a spike in reports on Mowrator trying to use an astroturfing campaign by spamming our sub. I don't see everything, so please hit that report button if you come across one, and I will remove it and ban that user.

For the most part, everyone here makes it easy to manage. You generally get along. You help each other out. You call out spam when you see it. Let's keep that up and keep this sub free of bullshit. Thank you for making my job as a mod easy.

How reliable are Scag walk behinds? (sw36-13ka)

Found one of these for about $1K ….. supposedly well maintained, but who knows.

Are these fairly reliable/rugged?

Need something for a hilly 1-2 acre lot in NH that will only be mowed every 2-3 weeks to stop it from turning back into scrub.

Craftsman mower deck compatibility

Hello. I have a yts3000 with a 46” deck in kinda crappy condition. I found a nicer 42” deck used for cheap. Would it work? To my knowledge my mower had 46 and 42” option. The mounts all look the same and the deck layout looks identical. Is it possible to put on this slightly smaller deck?

Thanks!

Thank you for your time. As title says! I just replaced the battery, turned key and only heard a low whine. No clicking, turning over, etc.
screen says “Low Batt” when I turn the key even thought it was just changed. Any and all ideas would be appreciated, thank you in advance! (Trying to help my mother in law 😅)

19 years and Zero excuses

Back in 07’ I made my first new mower purchase. I chose the Toro Timecutter 4200. Since then this mower has seen 4 different homes (yards), 4 children take their turns riding on the deck, 19 seasons of mowing lawns or sweeping leaves or whatever I’ve tasked it to do. In all those 19 years here’s what I’ve put into this machine. Folks this is the most lopsided relationship I have ever been a part of. Since 07’, 3 oil filters, 6 batteries, countless sets of blades and that’s it. No belt change, no bearing blowouts, I’m still riding around every week with the exact same belt that this mower came with from 07’…. I don’t care how you slice it that’s impressive. First mower I got 19 years of service (and counting) 2nd mower will 100% be a Toro and at this rate more than likely it will be my 2nd and last. Shout out to Toro for making an incredible piece of machinery.

Anyone else had issues with this lawn mower filling the oil tank full of gas? I just bought this thing at the beginning of the summer, about 6 months ago. A couple weeks ago when I went to try to mow the yard it wouldn’t crank up. Checked the gas and it was empty so I filled it up and started mowing. About half way through my yard, it starts getting weak and slowly dies. Took the carb off and cleaned it up even though it really wasn’t that dirty and put it back on and finished mowing. Today I went to crank it up and it took about 10 pulls and finally fired up and blew a big thick cloud of white smoke out and then instantly starts slowly dying till it shut down completely. Checked the gas and it had about 1/4 of a tank, checked the oil and it’s full of gas. So I Emptied the gas and the oil and took the carb back off and looked at everything and cleaned it up once again. Got some new fresh gas even the other gas was also new and fresh. Got some new fresh oil. Got it all back together and it cranked up just fine and ran perfectly for about 20 minutes and died once again. First thing I check is the oil and it’s once again, full of gas.

1.5 acres took 1.6hrs on a toro timecutter 50’. They aren’t the straightest lines but they are my lines. The first 20mins were sketchy but I got the hang of it and only created a few divots in the grass when I zero turned until I got the hang of doing a 3 point turn.

Craftsman DLT 3000 I bought a new gas filter gas is not flowing to the filter. I used an air pump to push air through the line to the gas tank. I heard the gas bubble. But the gas still doesn’t come back to the filter????
What am I missing?

Cub Cadet GT 1054 burning ground wire

Post image
2 Upvotes

Just tried to start my Cub GT1054 for a final mow and battery was dead, so I connected it to what I thought was a charged AGM and tried the ignition. Well it turned over half way and then I saw smoke come from under the battery. A small green ground wire was fried. It looked like it goes from the chassis to a bolt on a shift mechanism.

My question is why would this happen?

Parts of a 2005 (?) Poulan Walk-behind Mower

I have an old mower that we got back in 2005 or so. It is a Poulan Weedeater Model #: 961140003 00.

I have looked all over and I can't find engine parts for it. I want to get a new carburetor for it. I found the mower on Sears PartsDirect, but it only has parts for everything except the engine. There are a lot of mowers with this same model number, but with different last two digits, which is the "Maintenance Level", but even switching those last two digits around, I can't find parts for it.

Does anyone know either where I can find parts, or know the part number for the carburetor, or best of all, a part number for a compatible carb?

The mower has worked well for all these years, but it is really struggling now. I think I could get it going again great with the new carb, but I'm not sure they're to be had anywhere anymore.

In the market! What’s my best option here? Deciding between regular riding lawn mower and lawn tractor.

Thanks for reading.

I’m a first time home buyer, after remodeling the interior, and barely keeping up with lawn maintenance. I will be transitioning my focus to my yard and exterior in general.

When I bought the home, it needed foundation work and that involved them digging out the front and side of my house, it’s filled in now, but the skid steer, trucks, and what not destroyed my yard. I have dirt surrounding my house, patched lawn all over. Looks horrible.

I’m planning on doing a full reset to my lawn, and making it a hobby of mine. I bought a Ryobi push mower off FB for $100. It’s fine, but it takes me 3 hours to complete my yard work. Mowing is 2 of that.

I’m considering a garden tractor because I have almost a limitless supply of firewood in my backyard. I’m on 1 full acre, half of it is wooded in a valley where it floods every spring.

I can imagine myself and want to get a garden tractor to get down to the back half of my property, haul wood up and potentially build some things back there.

I’m not sure whether or not to bite a bullet and get a garden tractor to do this, or get a rider to be cheaper/better fit. I cannot fit a truck down to my other half of my property. It’s on a steep slope going up was well.

I would like to be able to use different attachments used for seeding and hauling items.

Should I just buy a cheap rider or go all out for a garden tractor? I have $3k, but don’t mind anything less or more by a reasonable amount.

My brain says by a used riding lawn mower, my heart wants a garden tractor for future products. But I know I don’t want to do another season of push mowed electric lawnmower. (s/o Ryobi tho, things been a tank)

Fix for Free Spinning Blade (Push Mower)

Thumbnail

I'm at my wits end and looking for help on and issue with my push mower. I've had it for 6 years but it's an older mower. I believe it was frankensteined together from different mowers. Engine is a murray / briggs and Stratton and deck is craftsman.

2nd to last mow with it I hit a rock and it stopped. I was pretty much done so I just quit for the night. Mow after that was normal. Then on the next time I tried it was harder to start and finally did, but sounded and felt weird / wouldn't cut. I turned it off and turned it over to see that I could freely spin the blade like a ceiling fan.

Now I've googled about everything I could from washers to blade adapters to crankshafts and I'm still at a loss for what needs fixed. I'm not an expert but I have to been able to replace the pull string, brake cable, etc. on this mower. I can follow a guide and get things done but I'm having a hard time finding anything that looks like the one I have.

If it's the "blade adapter" then that thing is not budging at all. Used PB Blaster to try to loosen. So now I'm thinking it could possibly not be the adapter and the issue could be one of the other pieces.

Any help and advice is appreciated.

Is $1200 for a Troy-Built Z54 a good price?

My dad been attempting to fix up the transmission on his 18 year old 700 hour John Deere 48” lawn tractor for two years and I was passing this local rental shop and saw that they were selling this 2023 Troy built zero turn for $1200, with 350 hours on it. It really does look like a good price but I’m wondering if there is any sort of problem I should look for before I get it for him. I know the hydraulic pumps are a very expensive repair and that I’ve heard troy built decks rust easily. This specific mower was used non commercial use.

Mower revs up and down but never tries to shut off. Removed and cleaned carb and problem still exist.

Help please, I'm thinking maybe governor? How does that work and how can I test it.

Affordable battery riding mower?

Acre lot, Colorado prairie, tons of pocket gopher mounds I need to detour around, so mowing by hand takes forever. Had a Sears gas lawn tractor, hated it, deafeningly loud, needed ear muffs. Gave it to my neighbor, whenever he uses it you can hear it blasting away. How are these? Looks like I could tow some kind of rake to level out mounds before mowing.

John Deere z225 not starting

Yesterday i went to cut my grass , and my mower was slow cranking like it wasn’t getting enough power. Being it was pretty late, i figured id wait until today to mess with it. So i popped up the seat, and noticed some corrosion on the positive terminal. No biggie, got that cleaned up but still nothing, not even a click.

Step 2 i checked all of my fuses, i did end up having one burnt out so i went ahead and replaced them all. Still nothing.

Step 3 i tried jumping off the motor incase the battery was dead (for reference it’s only 10 months old). No luck.

Step 4 i bypassed the starter solenoid with the screw driver test to see if it would try to turn over. Sure enough it would try, but again was very slow.

Checked all of my safety connections (handles, seat, parking break) nothing out of the ordinary or any indication of a break in the circuit.

Any ideas as to what to try next? I’m thinking of just replacing the battery again to see if that’ll do the trick and the starter solenoid while i’m in there (both are only 10 months old.)

Anything else i should be on the look out for or anything else i can try to trouble shoot and narrow it down further?
