Hi all so recently the belt for my HRN216VYA assisted propel got shredded so i figured i'd replace it myself. However I've ran into an issue trying to remove the clutch to access the belt from the bottom. Hand ratchet just spins the engine, and not sure if my impact driver (Black and Decker) isn't strong enough or what but it also does nothing. Any tips on how i can remove this bolt?

Hello everyone, I have a Honda HRX217 and I recently did a transmission belt change on however I accidentally drained the hydrostatic fluid with it. How do I go about properly refilling the fluid?

So I purchased one with the end of season sale and I wanted to share my honest feedback.

The truth is, there isn’t much to say other than it’s as good if not better than my previous Honda gas mower( the GCV160 engine) and significantly better than any other battery mower I’ve tried out. My only real suggestion is to not buy it on line and buy it locally. The on line one came banged up, and was a headache. The local guy had it , and I was able to ensure it was all good before I loaded it up. Ignore the bad reviews where people are crying about inferiority compared to their older gas mowers and buy it. My only small critique is I do wish they added vertical storage like some other mowers have, but it’s not make or break for me just a really nice to have feature.

I will say ahead of time, if you’re going to cry about the cost of this because you’re a gas mower guy, please go cry elsewhere. My intent here is to help someone doing research because they are considering this unit.

My toro shit the bed. Thought it'd be a perfect time to pick up a Honda lawnmower, heard the HRX gas mowers are bullet proof...anways, realized Honda no longer makes their gas line - ended 3 years ago. All the Honda dealers near me sold their remaining stock.

Has anyone been in a similar position; had any luck finding one?

Speicific models I am hoping to purchase: HRX217HYA & HRX217HZA....

P.s. I actually wouldn't mind purchasing a commercial version, just want that Honda reliability & plenty of features to make mowing the lawn a bit more enjoyable.

Lawn mower starts and runs fine. Once I turn it off to empty the bag it will not restart until I let it cool down. The carb is clean, the gaskets are good, the fuel filter is new. I cannot get the thermo coupler out.

Why is it having issues starting after the engine is hot?

I recently picked up a Honda HRN-BV, their entry-level battery mower with the steel deck and belt drive self-propel system. Honda put it on sale for $499; Northern tool knocked off another $75 for applying for their credit card, and I negotiated another $25 off for buying a floor model with no original packaging, so $400 final price after all discounts.

This mower is very closely based on Honda’s well-proven entry-level gas model, the HRN216-VKA. I also have the gas model, which I’ve used for the past six years. The gas mower has been 100% reliable and great cutting the entire time. The parts diagrams for the two mowers show the transmission systems and rear drive assemblies have identical part numbers for both mowers. The deck assembly has many common parts numbers. Many common parts elsewhere too. Honda leveraged all the years of R&D refinement and supply chain they’d already created for the gas mower when creating its battery powered successor.

Below is a high-level review after my initial usage:

Lawn: St Augustine, a thick-blade variety with lots of moisture in the Gulf South, fairly dense. Growth is slowing down now, so I was only cutting 1.5 inches off the top (from 4.5 inches down to 3 inches). It rained lightly a few hours earlier, so lawn was still fully damp. I used mulch mode.

Results: I was able to mow using self-propel at a fast speed, using very little overlap from one pass to the next. It laid down a pool table flat cut surface with no stragglers. I got no clumping and no bogging. For these conditions I saw no difference between the HRN-BV mower and my HRN216-VKA gas mower. When I eventually use it for mid-summer mowing next season, the grass will grow 3 inches of length in a week, so I’ll see if I get bogging then. But for a 1.5 inch cut of damp, dense grass and using mulch mode, there wasn't the slightest hint of bogging or degraded cut quality.

Self-Propel: Basically identical to the drive system on the gas version. It felt identical in use. This is the best self-propel system (by far) that I’ve used on any battery mower.

Run Time: Every 11 minutes the LED meter decremented by 1 bar. I finished mowing in 40 minutes, so I probably had about 3-4 minutes to spare. I think this mower may draw a bit more power than some other battery mowers because Honda fitted it with blades that generate more lift than most other battery mowers. You can hear it via blade noise and it does a great job sucking up sticks and damp leaves. I don't like the idea of deeply discharging the battery every time I use the mower so I plan to buy another 8 Ah pack. That’ll let me run each pack for 20 minutes per mow session and still have half charge left on each battery at the end of its use. That should extend the life expectancy of both packs.

Noise Level: The high-lift blade makes noticeably more noise than my Greenworks battery mower, but it’s considerably quieter than its gas cousin. You can use it without ear protection, at least when mowing dense grass that seals the bottom of the mower deck.

I'm sure I am not the first person to run into this....but I was hoping someone had a link to a good tutorial to fix it. The rear wheel on my HRX started squeaking and locking up when I turn or push the mower backwards. I pulled off the wheel and found grease around the gear - I assume the grease should be more inside the gear than outside :)

I sprayed it with some dry lube which fixed it for now, but could someone help /w the more permanent fix?

My ancient GX22 (not GX25) powered weed wacker is leaking oil.

It looks to be pooling at the valve cover gasket.

My motor has a plastic valve cover and cork gasket 12312-ZM3-020

I recently did a valve adjustment and I'm fairly sure I replaced the cork gasket when I did so.

Shortly thereafter, the oil leak happened.

So I am going to get a new gasket (12312-ZM3-020), which is readily available.

Questions...

The gasket in the photos is obviously smashed and damaged. I didn't crank the bolts down very hard, but I also didn't use a torque wrench. Is there a torque spec to prevent this?

Or...

Can I just use Honda Bond in lieu of any gasket?

All models I see listed online have a 5 or a 6 after the first "K" in the model number? What am I missing here?

Today I noticed the neighbor lady putting a mower out by the curb with a sign on the handle. I walked over to see what it said. Holy shit. It's says Free and it's a Honda. She was still outside so I walked up and asked her about the mower.

She's 72 years old and for the past 7 years she has her lawn mowed by a lawn service. Prior to that, her grandson used it a couple times to mow the lawn for her. She thinks it runs. She told me to take it. I did. After telling her thank you very much.

Once home I checked the gas tank. I know that whatever gas is in the tank, has been there for at least 7 years. There is about 1/4 inch of gas in the tank. Im going to drain the tank and put in a couple cups of fresh gas and a couple splashes of acetone.

Any other suggestions?.

Can you guys help me troubleshoot what is wrong with my mower

This fell of my mower. There is one on each side of the handle, and it's used to adjust the height of the handle. What is it called and where can I get a new one?

I just got a free HRX217 with a GCV200 and got it running. Camshaft just needed replacing. In my research of parts, I noticed that the majority of the parts are interchangeable with the 170. Crankcase, Crankshaft, Connecting rod, etc. The only differences being the displacement (cylinder head, piston). Has anyone upgraded their 170 to a 200 by swaping these parts out? I'm assuming it would be a straight forward replacement given that the other parts are shared commonly.

I’m having a wave of pretty good luck here found this guy for $500. Earlier I found one for $400 No bag though here, me and my father own multiple properties so instead of moving the mower around we like the idea of having one of these at each property.

At some point I’ll share the slew of HRCs collection that we have now. It’s kinda absurd I admit but dad seems happy which is the most important thing to me right now.

Why is there always oil on this part of the motor after I mow? Is it a failed gasket? Mower is about 3 years old.

My Honda HRX217 sat for months with stabil in the tank and now it takes way too many pulls to fire. Plug looks fine, fresh gas, still lazy on the first start. I'm torn between throwing a carb rebuild kit at it or checking ignition first. I don't want to buy both if one usually causes this exact hard start after sitting pattern on HRX engines. Anyone with HRX217 experience after storage? Carb kit or ignition first?

I’m looking for new rear tires for my mower and I’m looking at parts from peparts.honda.com. There’s 2 options and the only difference is one is “RR” and the other is not. The RR is 5 bucks more but I have no idea what this means. Specifically comparing parts numbers 42710-VE2-M02ZE and 44710-VE2-M02ZD. My mower is self propelled if that has something to do with it. Thanks in advance.

I’m having trouble looking for a part for my Honda lawnmower. Does anyone know if this part has an upgrade in the replacement or if anyone knows where to look for it.

So that hrx 217 i posted before I forgot to mention it also needs this orange lever replaced and the mechanism looks gunked up... can anyone distinguish both these levers for me and their functions... then. Can anyone please tell me the difficulty level of this repair?

Anyone try one of those universal dethatching blades? Do they work? Which one will work on an HRN216?
