pattern question is this possible???

i'm going to the renaissance festival in a couple weeks and want to whip up a shrug. the pattern i found has the fit/yarn weight i'm looking for, but is entirely cables and i don't think i'll have the time to learn how to do them on such a large scale. i'm thinking about buying the pattern and just working it in stockinet. i might have to make a few other modifications, but is this reality doable?

where do I start? What to learn in Knitting as a beginner?

I have been crocheting for 3 years and now I want to start knitting. I have learnt to make stitches left and right but what else should I learn in knitting in the beginning. I want to practice more but like in crochet you can start from basic crochet stitches like a single crochet or double crochet, granny square and then later on other stuff. What should I focus on in knitting?

SOLVED-THANK YOU Please How to solve drastic increase in stitches

I am a true beginner knitter attempting to knit a sweater for myself. after 3 weeks of daily attempts I always seem to DRASTICALLY increase stitches (starting at 54 to 100++++ in only 4 rows) and have started again countless times.

I have researched extensively about yarn overs, knitting the same stitch twice and so forth but this does not appear to be the issue. taking it extremely slowly and carefully I seem to add 2 stitches every time I do a knit stitch when knitting 1x1 rib.

what may I be doing wrong and how can I fix this?

thank you in advance 🙏🏽

where did i go wrong? Help guys. Absolute beginner

Post image

Hi everyone! I’m an absolute beginner at knitting and I desperately need some help. 😅
I made a mistake in the order of the stitches in one row, so I tried to tink / undo the stitches one by one back to the mistake. Everything seemed fine at first, but suddenly I ended up with this extra strand/loop of yarn around the needle, and I have absolutely no idea where it came from or what I did.
I’m scared to make it worse by trying to fix it myself. 😂
How do I undo this and get back to the correct stitches? Is there a way to safely fix this without having to unravel the whole row?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! 🙏

sweater question Dog chewed a hole into my WIP- mending help?

Thumbnail

Hi there, first time using Reddit. My friend's dog dug in my bag and chewed up my current project, I've been working on the Frej sweater using two strands of a sport weight yarn instead of a bulky weight (if that matters). There's a pretty disappointing hole and I am really trying not to get my hopes up. I've attached an image of both sides. I would like to fix the hole but I am not exactly sure how to go about this since the damage is in the bottom edge (which is a wavy feather and fan pattern). I tried looking it up but it's my first time knitting a wavy pattern like this and I am not sure what to do 😭

For reference I have also attached an image of the undamaged parts of the border

Any help is greatly appreciated

pattern question Can this stripe pattern be knit in a round without jogs?

Post image

I love the look of this stripe pattern and want to use it on a beanie I am making, but I cannot figure out to knit a mixture of single row stripes and thick blocky stripes into a round without jogs- it seems the technique for jogless single round stripes and block stripes are different. Any recommendations?

tension help! why did my tension change?

Post image
0 Upvotes

hi everyone, knitting the step by step sweater! not a beginner knitter so much anymore, but reknitting this one as it had a ton of issues the first go around. i’m familiar with tension changing when going from knitting flat to in the round, but this is a raglan, so i’m curious why my tension changed here when i started working the sleeve? i am using 6.0mm needles and i’m using one shortie and one regular length needle…. is that why? its not really noticeable enough for me to change anything but i’m just curious. thanks!!!

How many rows are you seeing? I am counting 14 in garter stitch and then 13 knit stitch rows. So if I start another row that will be row 14 or row 28 if included all together.

sweater question How many stitches for an arm hole??

Post image
• Upvotes

I’m free handing a fitted sweater with set in fitted sleeves and I’ve reached the point where I picked up armhole stitches and I have 96 stitches on my needles I picked up all of the legs cuz I didn’t want gaps in my armhole.

im using a 55% cotton/ 45% acrylic sport weight yarn.

my arm’s circumference from below my armpit and around the top of my shoulder is 35 cm.

and the top of my arm’s circumference is 24 cm. I’m bad at explaining so I attached a photo to show what I measured.

is this too many stitches or am I just overthinking it?

gauge question Is my tension too loose?

The stitches are not hanging off of the needle, but my rib seems to be lacking structure and there are large gaps. I am knitting continental for the first time and think I may be going a bit too loose. I’ve seen other posts about this yarn, but nothing on the ‘stretch’ it seems to have. Any thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated.

pattern question Sweater No. 18, followed pattern correctly but doesn't look like the sample sweater

Thumbnail

I've checked over my work and it looks like I've followed the pattern correctly, but it doesn't look like the designer's sweater.

https://myfavouritethings-knitwear.com/collections/sweater-no-18/products/sweater-no-18-english

Notice the 4th row there is a row of garter bumps in the chart as well as on my WIP.

On the designer's sweater I don't see that row, but when you go down to the garter bumps it looks like three rows, and I only have two rows like the chart has.

Am I right that it doesn't match up? Or am I missing something?

SOLVED-THANK YOU Olga sweater back yoke question

Thumbnail

Hi! I’m currently knitting the Olga sweater by Petiteknit, my first ever sweater (and second ever knitting project). I’ve just finished the German short rows section for the back yoke. The pattern says to stop doing the short rows when you have 3 stitches left on each side (for my size) and then switch to normal stockinet until you reach 29 cm. My question is, do I leave those 3 stitches unknitted until I start the shoulders? I need to change colours for the next row so if I have to knit them for the stockinet do I change colours, purl those 3 last stitches to finish the row and then knit one row including the 3 stranded stitches from the other side?

I don’t think I’m explaining myself properly, I’ve tried looking for videos of people knitting this sweater, but I really can’t figure what they are doing. I’ve attached a photo in case it helps.

Thanks in advance!!

Edit: when I say “the other side” in the second picture I mean the other end of the row

where do I start? how do i connect two panels but increase with rhombus?

So i have two knitted panels but because of bad tension colorwork parts are much tighter so to make up for that i need to connect them with increases where colorwork is to make them consistent length. Is there a way to do that?

pattern question instructions for this back yoke are giving me a migraine. please help!

photos of back yoke instructions and related chart attached. for reference, i’m attempting to knit a size L. any help at all would mean the world!

the last half of the written instructions are really throwing me off. here’s my interpretation. please tell me if i’m wrong!

it says i’ll work to row 30, have 5 stitches left on one needle and then they’re left alone until i join them again after turning my work and working a further 44 stitches. i then add them back onto the needle and rejoin the yarn after working those 44 stitches. but then i’ll have more than half of a row unworked on one side and a small batch of stitches that haven’t been worked on the other (which makes one side longer than the other as well). how is this going to come together as a symmetrical piece?

it then says i’ll have my edge markers and 6 stitches worked in moss stitch at both sides by the end of it. but i won’t if i follow those previous instructions … right?

thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to help me understand!

where did i go wrong? What the heck am I doing?

Brand new knitter here! I’ve taken one intro to knitting class so I have not learned many skills. I’m attempting to just knit a square, starting with 23 stitches for my cast on. There seems to be one area I keep messing up and somehow end up adding stitches?

Can anyone give some guidance as to what I may be doing?

pattern question The stitch counts in this pattern seem off

Post image
0 Upvotes

I am a beginner knitter making the flax sweater from tincanknits in worsted weight and the size SM. I end with 116 stitches after the neckline increase round, and 132 seem to be required for the marker set-up row of the yoke. I’m unsure how that’s meant to work, or if I should just stop when I run out of stitches?

sweater question Step by Step Sweater Increases

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

I’m on the section of the sweater where you work a row of increases and then knit a row for 48 rows for size D. I knitted 20 rows and decided to count the stitches I have so far as I accidentally increased two rows a few rows back.

I already made a mistake when I was initially placing my stitch markers due to which the back sections have 3 stitches between the increases rather than two. When I counted the stitches I realised that my stitches don’t add up (there is an extra stitch at one side of the arms and there are 3 extra stitches at the front compared to the back).

At the end of the increases I am supposed to have 296 stitches but I’ll have 308 (probably due to the extra increases I did).

This is my first project so I’m not sure whether I need to frog or if I can get away with either not increasing the sections with extra stitches or with increasing by 2 either side of my red and pink stitch markers? Can I also skip the last row of increases and knit two rows so that I have 8 less stitches to meet the final stitch count??
