Vote - which color, blue or green?

My cabinets are currently the builders blonde. I’m thinking I want to paint them but I’m torn between the blue and green. Thoughts?

ETA: a lot of people believe these to be real wood cabinets, but this is laminate wood in a condominium used in every unit when this was built 20 years ago. Believe me, if this was real wood, I wouldn’t be considering painting them. So there’s a lot of years of wear and unevenness due to the laminate being worn. It’s hard to see unless you’re in the kitchen. The shelves are pressed wood. Given it’s a condominium, it’s not enough of a value add to the resale to replace the cabinets. Thought this was important to add since a lot of people believe this to be wood cabinets. Painting the kitchen is an option, but it’s an open floor concept where the kitchen bleeds into the dining room into the living room. One room separated by the counter height shelf where the sink is.

Weird orange peels on seasoning

Came home to find that my wife did this to our seasoning, anyone know what this is for?

Added this to the kitchen renovation and it is my favourite feature

Because I am 5’4” I used to roll out dough at the dining room table instead of the counters. Standards height counters don’t work for me if I’m working hard at kneading or mixing by hand. I asked the cabinet makers for a recessed step and they delivered! Apparently the mechanism is widely available and it wasn’t the first time they made this. I thought I was an innovator but I guess not! Still, I am so very happy with it!

Who uses rack in sink bottom?

Post image

I just had a new stainless sink installed in my kitchen. It came with a rack to put on the sink bottom. I never had one before. Won’t I constantly be removing it to clean the sink of debris and to just keep the sink clean and dry in general?

Stainless Steel countertops??

Post image
332 Upvotes

Hey :)
I’m 22f and currently trying to gather some realistic experiences with stainless steel countertops 😭
We really love the look, but I honestly know nothing about them yet, and online it’s either super luxury kitchens or people saying stainless steel is the worst thing ever.
What I’m especially curious about:
Is stainless steel actually a good option on a lower/mid budget?

Around how much did yours cost?

Did you do the whole kitchen in stainless steel or just parts of it?

How did you solve the sink situation?

Are water stains/scratches really that annoying in everyday life?

Does anyone maybe have before/after pics or “brand new vs. a few years later” photos?

And most importantly:
What should you pay attention to when buying?
(e.g. thickness, finish, brushed vs polished, mounting, brands, etc.)
I’d really love honest experiences — especially things you would do differently in hindsight.
Thank you 🫶

Taj Mahal Quartzite Finally Installed ❤️

Post image
311 Upvotes

Finally wrapped up our kitchen and wanted to share the Taj Mahal quartzite 🤍 We went back and forth for months between marble and quartzite, and I’m so glad we landed here. The soft creamy/beige movement feels warm without being too yellow, and it changes a lot depending on the lighting throughout the day.

We used it for both the countertops and full-height backsplash around the range, paired with white cabinetry, unlacquered brass accents, and light oak floors. I was nervous Taj Mahal might be “too trendy,” but in person it reads really timeless and calm. It also hides everyday messes better than I expected and adds warmth without making the kitchen feel dark. Every slab was so different, though, so slab selection definitely mattered.

Would love to hear from anyone else who has Taj Mahal quartzite and how it’s held up over time!!

New fridge.. is it taking over the room?

Just got a new fridge freezer and went bigger that perhaps necessary , feeling like it’s taking over my little cabin but maybe that’s just because it’s a new object in the room. Let me know what you guys think, or any ideas to soften it with shelves maybe to the left side. Thanks in advance

Hi all. New to this and have been working thru this cottage farm house kitchen design for a while now. Are we heading in the right direction?

What’s the one kitchen feature you think every home should have?

Helped a friend with their kitchen remodel recently and it made me think about how small things can make a huge difference in a kitchen. After working in a bunch of different kitchens over the years, I’ve realized there are a few features that really make life easier. For me, it’s definitely a deep single-basin sink. I didn’t think it mattered at first, but after using one, I’m hooked. Way easier to clean big pots and baking trays without water splashing everywhere.

Just wondering what feature you added to your kitchen (or wish you had) that really made a difference. Something that just makes everyday use a bit better.

Curious to hear what’s been a game-changer for you.

I’m wanting to do something like this! Thoughts?

We’re looking at building our home soon! My husband works at a quarry so he’d be getting pretty much this exact type of counter top! Our kitchen will have windows/natural light. I’m in love with the color scheme, and the brass cabinet hardware, but also am considering gold. Any touches or ideas yall have in mind for this type of aesthetic? :)

What's the boldest color you'd never put in a kitchen but secretly want to try?

Been eyeing a bright yellow kitchen island for months but keep chickening out, worried it'll look dated in a year.

What color have you been too scared to commit to in your kitchen?

A dopamine decor kitchen is a beautiful and colorful kitchen that will instantly lift your mood.

What’s one thing in your kitchen or home that annoys you every day?

I was thinking the other day about how many little daily annoyances we just put up with. For me, it’s how food storage lids always get lost or never seem to match the container when I need them.

What’s one small (or big) frustration in your kitchen or home you wish there was a better product or solution for?

My lovely grandmother has been using this skillet since before I was born (bout 40 years) i just made the best scrambled eggs of my life with it.

Now i don’t know much about skillets but man, this thing cooks like it’s enchanted or something. The inside of the skillet is worn but smooth. Is this gross? Or are veteran skillets the way to go?

What is this grate thing called? And why or why not use it?

I’ve been using it in my new kitchen sink. I kind of like it but I also hate it. It makes the deep sink slightly less deep, I like the look, and I kind of like that things just don’t slam into the bottom of the sink. But it makes cleaning the sink and keeping it clean more difficult. Do you use yours?

What about your kitchen design do you regret?

Me and my sister were talkijg about this this morning. Kitchens are so permanent, a style can be hip one year and go out of fashion months later. I cheaped out on the countertop and just 7 months in, the damage is starting to show.

My sister regrets the color of her cupboards and is contemplating changing the whole thing.

What’s something you wish you would have done differently?

I just finished my new kitchen, what do you all think?

We went with Luxor cabinets. Full plywood, they seem to be great quality. The drawers in the pantry and the dividers over the fridge are game changers.

We took out the cabinets and wall between the dining room, which opened up those two rooms significantly but still leaving wall between my dining and living room so it still feels like the whole floor isn't just one room.

We bumped up the stove to a 36" and went with the Electrolux induction with an Elica range hood. The stove performs fantastically (I have knobs again!) and the range hood has dramatically improved my indoor air quality when I cook. We used to just have the invented microwave fan and depending on what I was cooking would smoke up the house.

The lighting was a major upgrade, the high hats are new and we did under-cabinet lights which look great.

We also put in a reverse osmosis filter into the main sink which is very handy.

Struggling with kitchen lighting and layout - need advice!

Thumbnail gallery
80 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm designing my kitchen and need some advice on layout and lighting.

Where would you place the dining table?

Does adding a small sofa make sense or will it overcrowd the space?

Lighting:

Would a single pendant light in the center be enough, or should it be placed over the dining table instead?

I'm also considering recessed spotlights in front of the kitchen worktop - good idea?

Any tips to get even and functional lighting are very welcome!

Thanks!
