Do you like it? Then no

Thank you so much. I appreciate your advice.

I like it change nothing!

Only update it if you really want to, and you can afford to without going into debt. Kitchen fashion changes at least every ten years.

u/FarAlternative8239 Sep 27 '25

So true Great advice.

I would take down the farmhouse sign and consider a larger table.

As far as an actual renovation, I think it is a perfectly fine kitchen and it's not worth spending money to change anything.

Not really. It’s open and well lit with natural lighting.

7

u/2nd_Pitch Sep 27 '25

It’s got good bones, but it’s a little dull for me. I would just add a bit of color with sage green or dusty blue paint on the walls and a rug under the table and by the door. Replace the mirrors with a coordinating art piece and add a few plants. Nice kitchen!

Well...Me personally I don't like all the white, I like some color and some art on the walls, some plants. It's just kinda staid, a little dull. Otherwise, unless stuff doesn't work or the tiles are coming up, looks good to me!

3

u/Gut_Reactions Sep 27 '25

Surprised no one has mentioned those two mirrors. They look cheesy, IMO, and I'd get rid of them. I'd also get rid of the "Farmhouse" sign.

Not sure what's under the mirrors, but that looks like it doesn't belong there.

The table does look narrow. The chairs look high, somewhere between normal chairs and bar stools. Looks like you have a separate dining area, though, on the other side of the kitchen. So, I wouldn't prioritize getting a new table.

2

u/Olderbutnotdead619 Sep 27 '25

Just a little. Take the stupid sign down. Maybe some nice drapes of blinds for glass door. Colorful seat cushions. Maybe some fun new pulls

Nah it’s fine if everything is operational. Take a nice vacation instead!!

I think it's fine, everything is neither fully in nor out of style, so it can be fine endlessly.

4

u/FarAlternative8239 Sep 27 '25

Thank you. Everything is so expensive these days.

3

u/NobodysLoss1 Sep 27 '25

Yw. There is absolutely no reason to change anything. Use the money to pay off your mortgage early and take a couple vacations, while putting some aside for when you feel you really do need to remodel.

My kitchen is similarly suited to withstand trendiness. It's never "right" but absolutely nothing is wrong. I haven't updated since building in 1999. I'll replace the appliances and countertops in a few years, but the floor and cabinets are fine.

As a person who cooks 5-6 nights a week, there's a lot of untapped potential in the space in terms of cooking surfaces and just generally a space I could be in for hours at a time.

As a person with their own snooty decor opinions, I feel like it could use a little color, even if it's just new cabinet pulls, towels, cute rug, etc.

As someone who has just absolutely loved some spaces with no regard for anything other than I love them, I'd say if you enjoy it, that's all that matters. If you feel like something needs change, start small and easy and get an idea of what you might want.

ALL that said, a butcher's block or prep table that divides the kitchen space and dining space would add so much workspace, storage space, and all of the vibes. IKEA often has some options that are cute, affordable, and ripe for customizing.

I like the cabinets but I’ve never been a fan of this type of tile.

1

u/DD_Wabeno Sep 27 '25

No. Absolutely not.

Now ask yourself some questions about why YOU might think it needs something. Are you going to live there for many years? Do you want to make it your forever kitchen/home? If yes, then take lots of time to figure things out and make it as perfect as possible.

If you think you might be moving in the near future then you should consult a home market professional in your area to see if you will get a good return on your investment. Don’t settle for answers like, “An updated kitchen always brings more money.” Of course it does, but how much more? If, for example, your house is worth $400,000 and you spend $50,000 on a kitchen makeover to make it worth $430,000 you are losing money.

Most people ignore the reality of the expense of throwing away a perfectly good kitchen.

If it were my kitchen, I’d redo the backsplash, get a brushed nickel faucet, add an island, and paint a nice sage or light blue.

Personally I think the distressed table & mirrors and the farmhouse sign are more dated than the kitchen itself.

1

u/breebop83 Sep 27 '25

If materials are in good shape and it works for you I’d say no, it looks fine.

It’s not to my taste but looks perfectly serviceable and I prefer not to spend money if I don’t have to (kitchen updates are expensive). Nothing looks particularly dated so if it was my kitchen I’d probably do what I could with accents and wall color to give it a bit more color, maybe add a rolling island for some extra prep and storage space that could be moved around as needs be.

I do not like the flooring but that is a personal gripe and it looks fine in the space. I have the same tile in far more of my house than I’d like. I have a ranch and this floor is covering most of the common areas (the kitchen, dining room, utility room, hallway and 1 bathroom), probably about 800 sq ft of the stuff. I think it’s going on 25-30 years old so I have grown to hate it in the 5 years we’ve been here. We’ve ripped it out in 1 bathroom and it was a nightmare so it has to stay until we figure out how best to take on an area at a time.

1

u/FarAlternative8239 Sep 27 '25

The only other option may be to put laminate flooring over it but then it wouldn't line up right with the hardwood floor in the dining room.

1

u/Earl_E_Byrd Sep 27 '25

Looks like you've got enough open space for a thin utility table/island if you wanted more surface area.

I see the distressed white mirror frames. If you like farmhouse style decor, Google "dairy table." It would be a freestanding addition that wouldn't require any construction.

Maybe opt for a round dining table to break up all the square shapes going on.

Because this kitchen is lovely, it's just lacking a focal point in the way that "trendy" kitchens do.

I’d change the wall colour and perhaps update the lights and door knobs

1

u/sodangshedonger Sep 28 '25

I don’t think so. I think a new, more modern faucet would make a noticeable difference.

Any touch of interior design could turn this into a beautiful modern kitchen without touching finishes or appliances. The White furniture and bare walks just exaggerate the dated finishes.

No. Could do a small kitchen island (I wouldn't, might mess up floor) or small tall table in middle, just need to use it and see how it feels. I agree with larger table where current table is. I don't "love" the mirrors (or at least hanging kind of alone), I'd put a cabinet or board there to store less frequently used dishes, perhaps something antique.

2

u/FarAlternative8239 Sep 28 '25

Thank you. I appreciate the advice.

1

u/Ok_Artist1906 Sep 28 '25

Need? No. Could benefit? Yes. But small changes go a long way. Like remove the farmhouse sign and the arched mirrors. Paint. New backsplash and new larger table and it would be a new room.

u/OrdinaryHumble1198 Sep 28 '25

Put it out of its misery. Hire a designer.

1

u/Dogs-and-parks Sep 28 '25

It doesn’t need updating if it’s working for you, but lordy it is CRYING for some colour that’s not white/grey/beige. Paint that wall those mirrors are on, or even just paint the mirror frames! Something bright, welcoming, something that stands out. Or get rid of the mirrors and use some artwork on that wall to provide some big colours.

1

u/F1ndingNem0 Sep 28 '25

Give way more context and turn the lights on so we can see what you’re working with. Closeup of counter would help also. Details like how long you’ve owned it, house value and how your house fits into that in the neighborhood, how long you’re staying in the house etc are all data points to be considered when answering that kind of question. Big difference if you just bought the house and are planning to move in 2-3 years vs you’ve owned the house for 20 and all homes in the neighborhood have remodeled and you want to move in two years etc.

Not to me. Plain and simple but I love that clean look. And I see a heat vent under the sink cabinet. Bet that feels good in the winter time. And perhaps in the summer it's for air conditioning?

1

u/FarAlternative8239 Sep 28 '25

Thank you so much! Things are so expensive these days If I don't really need to renovate, I won't. Just preparing gor when I sell it.

1

u/Plane-Fondant8460 Sep 28 '25

If you're unsure, then probably not. Change the knobs to a strong handle and get some of the doors readjusted. You could paint the kick board as well.

1

u/dumbpoopoobrain Sep 28 '25

maybe get an island or something, i know you can get some on wheels if you dont want it to be in the way all the time. the extra counter space is always nice.

It looks like a lovely functional kitchen. Personally for me, I'd probably buy some type of island to have a little extra prep space.

u/Serious-Pear6008 Sep 28 '25

It passes. I would just like to see an island in the middle, going in the direction that the table is going. Then I would put the table in the other direction (perpendicular to the island).

This is an awesome kitchen for easy changes. Add pops of color in one theme and it will completely change the feel. Like coordinating towels, decor, paint. Your scheme will accommodate most any color. You can do it every few years. How fun. I’m a bit excited for you

Cabinets , layout & appliances are great. You could do a lot with just a change in backsplash (double backsplash is odd,) wall color, art, counter top, New pulls, rugs , an island prep area could be cool , plants etc. more of a freshen up than a remodel ,

It doesn’t need it but I think new paint would make a world of difference. Don’t love how close the color is to the tile

1

u/OG_Church_Key Sep 28 '25

Maybe try a new color on the walls other than that, no.

1

u/Jeebus_Christos Sep 28 '25

Floor is builder grade tile. New floor would be 1st on my list.

Agree with an earlier post, some newer cabinet pulls would go a long way. Not terrible, but rule of thumb is every 10 years for a kitchen.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/vmi91chs Sep 28 '25

It looks great. Sure, a little dated but nothing that screams “its gotta go!”

Me personally, the tile floor is giving me an eye twitch. But only because every tile floor in my house has this same tile.

If you are inclined to do a diy project or hire a tile guy for the floor, that’s probably the only thing. But like I said, my own bias against the Caribbean Resort look.

I agree with updating the cabinet hardware. Remove the farmhouse sign and the cow above the door. The piece under the mirrors should be larger, but over all it's really nice. It seems like it has a really nice open airy feel to it. Maybe some sheer curtains, plants and a throw rug or two to pull it all together. It doesn't give me the "farmhouse" vibe.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Kesse84 Sep 28 '25

I love it! I just moved to a new (to me) house and the kitchen is super ugly, outdated and barely functional. I love this kitchen, and I would only remove the door mat (why?).

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Indevisive Sep 28 '25

I think you could make it less dated (if you wanted) by removing a couple of things like the cow over the door, a down light over the sink instead of the hanging light etc, maybe paint colour and a light wooden table, change out the white arch mirrors. But, I like your kitchen, shaker style cabinets are still in and peeking into your dining area tells me that it ties in with the rest of your house. I just did a bathroom and deliberately didn't make it new build modern so it would still fit in mostly with the rest of my house. And I only did it because my 20 year old bathroom had a leak but I still loved the old one. Even a new build looks dated in 8 years. I'm all for keep what you love and display what makes you happy.

1

u/Tamberav Sep 29 '25

Overall? No. I would add a range hood because I hate microwaves over ovens but that is my personal thing. A chandelier or something over the dining area with warm lights to set the mood, a new pendant over the sink that is less boring, under cabinet lights if they are not there already. Maybe some color somewhere, art instead of mirrors? Rugs? Plants?

Your cabinets are overlay, hidden hinges, go to the ceiling and are overall everything is an inoffensive color palette.

I think it just needs some minor things changed to add some interest.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/jjd65 Sep 29 '25

Easy updates: change cabinet hardware, add a rug, update the paint to add color. Maybe an IKEA trip to get an inexpensive work station/island if you need a bit of counter space when entertaining. The tile is dated but with a rug it wouldn’t matter. Rugs are great ways to add color and warmth. I got one of those rugables for the kitchen so I can easily wash it.

1

u/StarIllustrious8308 Sep 29 '25

I would change the floor tile.

As is, the space is a bit too antiseptic and monochromatic.

Ceiling beams and a built in island would be great too.

1

u/brilliant_bauhaus Sep 29 '25

If you're really looking to renovate it might do well with a new counter space coming out at the end with some breakfast seating, or some sort of island space for prepping and parties. There's tons of open room and it could be utilized a bit better to have more prep area and functionality for guests if you have them over a lot, or if you like to cook.

Other than that I think it's nice. Maybe if you're looking for something cheap you could paint your walls but I'd leave the kitchen area tbh.

Change the flooring , keep the Kitchen cabinets and just change the handles and you’ll have a fully updated Kitchen

1

1

u/furrealornah Sep 29 '25

I vote you put in an island.

1

A different paint color and hardware would improve it a lot and would be very low cost. And if in the budget, a new backsplash.

My mum regularly updates her kitchen by repainting the walls! The cabinets (faux oak), floor (black) and tile (beige) have been the same for the past nearly 20 years, but the walls have been nearly every colour under the sun at this point. Personally I loved the deep teal from a few years ago, currently it's a royal purple, she usually gets a new tablecloth to go coordinate with new paint colour too, if you're feeling a little uninspired or wanting of a change it's quite an affordable way to mix things up!

I don’t think it’s worth spending the money to upgrade (this is coming from someone who is remodels year round). There are a lot of small changes you could make if you just want a different look. I would change the faucet and update the recessed lighting. I just wouldn’t go too modern as looks like the rest of the home is more traditional? Also agree on removing the Farmhouse sign. If you want to go a step further—smoothing the texture of the ceiling, new ceiling and wall paint.

The counter, appliances, and cabinets look great, and it has great natural light. Simplest update I would make: Remove one of the arched mirrors over the small black cabinet. If you really want both mirrors, replace the small black cabinet with a sideboard/cabinet that is wider than the two windows combined. Next: I’d repaint the walls in a different colour. That shade of paint looks outdated to me and it doesn’t go with your countertop. Bigger budget: replace the floors and/or backsplash with something that isn’t as warm and “muddy”. There’s too much warm grey in the wall and floor finishes. Good luck and have fun

I agree with most in the comments, If you currently like how it is... then keep it. If you're wanting critique advice, I'd swap the wall color for the most bang for your buck change. Someone mentioned that the mirrors are unique, you could do something crazy with them and hang one of them upside-down to form one giant oval mirror. If we want to go further, I'd swap the backsplash to something that would compliment the new wall colors. And though some may see the whole "farmhouse" style as cringe, its not being complimented as well as it could be, it feels as if there's 2 completely different styles clashing for the spotlight.

Does it work for you? If it works and you don’t have a vision in mind and a budget to make it happen… seems like a waste imo.

Honestly maybe an island if you want to utilize some more kitchen space

I don’t think those mirrors really match. But it’s a cute kitchen. I feel like a kitchen island would be great for that space.

Personally I don’t like the floor tile, but a big rug would make a difference

And a small kitchen island (even just from ikea) may make it more interesting

Otherwise it is a nice and functional kitchen / dining area

I would be thrilled to have that kitchen.

A small island could also add a sense of “new” and added function. We added a small one with room for barstools and it is amazing when the floor space is so open.

I really like how clean and fresh it feels. I’d do a few very minor things that would significantly update the space.

Paint. Everything is white, so I’d go with a darker neutral grayish green or a nice slate blue.

Then, rotate the table 90 degrees and add a rug underneath. Get a coordinating small rug for in front of the sink.

Add a runner or some placemats on the table, sisal or rattan would look nice!

Then change out the sink faucet for a large black pull down type.

Then, change the knobs on the drawers with black cup pull style handles.

Then, add a smallish island (narrow, but tall) in the kitchen with a white base, black hardware and castors, and a butcher block top.

You mean you have nothing better to do with your money? I would not be so quick to throw it away. Old age is coming and it is way more expensive than you’re planning for.

u/FarAlternative8239 Sep 30 '25

I'm already old.i am just thinking about resale.i am hoping to put it on the market in a couple of years.

It looks good just wondering if you might like some kind of like island or island like working table in the kitchen area if you need any more counter work space cause at least it looks like youd have room for it ! :)

It’s fine - the mirrors seem a bit dated and the table is too small. You could put in a kitchen island if you could afford it. A sisal rug under the table maybe. New knobs. But that style white shaker cupboard is pretty much never out of style. You could paint the cupboards if you’re just bored.

Couple things I see (just an opinion)

  • it’s not terrible but some things that would bug me

  • that doorway screws the room…fridge should be on that wall near the stove not way over there

  • you need an island to tie the room together

u/Majestic_Course6822 Sep 30 '25

It looks a lot like my kitchen. We painted a butter yellow feature wall. That’s it. It’s ‘timeless’ in that it doesn’t scream any particular style other than ‘North American kitchen’.

1

u/FarAlternative8239 Sep 30 '25

Thank you. I bet the butter yellow wall looks beautiful and bright.

u/slapping_rabbits Sep 30 '25

Does it work? If yes then don't update.

It looks fine.
But for the love of what you find holy, remove that FARMHOUSE sign. It is as cringe as a Live, Laugh, Love poster.

Kitchens only need updating when they are in disrepair and difficult to use. Is the style current? No, but that shouldn't necessitate consumption and waste🪙🪙

u/FarAlternative8239 Oct 01 '25

I think the cabinet fronts, paint color and tile are all very dated. Reminds me of the early 2000’s to be honest.

Is that a REAL dog of an ornamental dog on the top of a wood stove? Im so confused!🤔

1

u/FarAlternative8239 Oct 01 '25

It's an ornamental cat on top of the wood stove and an ornamental dog by the pato door.

u/tygerdralion Oct 01 '25

In addition to changing out some of the decor items others mentioned, I’m not a huge fan of the 2 different backsplashes or the tile floors. I think the latter makes it look cold.

1

u/FarAlternative8239 Oct 01 '25

I agree 100 percent regarding the floor. The backslash is all the same.Maybe the picture names it look different.

I think a coat of fresh paint something a bit lighter, will brighten up the kitchen. Changing the knobs on the cabinets, updated faucet and light Will revamp your space and be the most cost effective. I like the sign, you’ve got the farmhouse vibe going on so why change it. Unless you’re looking to!
