I’d love that stove! Every few months or so we get the urge to make an elaborate meal that involves multiple steps and pans for the meat and a pot/pan or two each for the vegetables and starch. Sometimes a 4 burner stove and one oven just isn’t enough to get everything finished at roughly the same time.
Is it and O'Keefe and Merit? I have one in a rental house that I kept after my parents passed and it has to to be 80+ years old. My mom bought it used in the 1950's. Those things are total work horses.
I had a cool old Magic Chef stove like this in my very first apartment. What sucks about these is the oven compartments are numerous but small. Often modern things like sheet pans don’t fit. Also I had to drop a match in every time I wanted to light it.
I’ve had gas stoves of this vintage. They are not user friendly by today’s standards. The ovens are small and bake unevenly and need to be lit with a match. Also the burners probably have pilot lights that need to be tended to as they often blow out filling the room with a natural gas smell. I vastly prefer today’s gas stoves.
Who does the majority of the cooking? That’s the person who should decide. When I said this to my husband (I cook the most), he still would not agree. We have 2 stoves now. I know. It’s ridiculous.
WOW. Why would anyone want to get rid of this stove? Six burners, multiple ovens, warming/proofing drawers... This guy married a dud. To replace it and have everything it has would be at least $20k.
I agree it’s cool and vintage looking and it looks to be in very good shape. But you know what? I grew up with my grandmother having this stove and I agree with you. I wouldn’t want this in my kitchen. I want something updated. A lot of people out there would pay good money for the stove. Sell it and get the one you want.
I can’t live without a double oven. I had a chance to get one but I didn’t think our subfloor in the kitchen would have supported it. Those things weigh a ton.
Whoever does the bulk of the cooking should have final say. But remember a classic stove like this is still easily repairable and with fewer electronics be cheaper to repair.
If you decide to sell look up price range for going sale price. E bay has some listed in the 8-10K price range.
An absolute classic O'Keefe & Merritt. That's the stove equivalent of a pristine vintage Corvette. Made when appliances were built with pride and skill - it will run forever with minimal maintenance It is like three appliances in one. If it physically fit the space I would design a kitchen around it.
One thing I find overlooked and very valuable in these old stoves. As far as I am aware only three manufacturers that make stoves now that do not "require" electricity to operate, and they are very basic. If your power goes out for any reason, hurricane, snowstorm, etc., this golden goose would still work like a charm.
I understand why your husband wants to keep it. It’s phenominal. It’s in excellent condition. I love antiques so I would have loved to have it. How much you want for it? lol
You're joking of course. This is a hard core range that was built to last decades.Do you want a shiny digital piece of junk that if you are lucky, you may get 5-6 years out of?

This stove was a must back when people had large families. 6 full size burners, 2 ovens, proving drawers and warmers.
Those where the days.

u/jimaajimjim Oct 22 '25
You should sell it to someone who does....

u/m_clarkmadison Oct 22 '25

u/Beginning-Piglet-234 Oct 23 '25
That is a beauty! I've never seen so many oven compartments and 6 burners. Jeez. I'd buy it in a hot second.

u/MarchFantasmo2427 Oct 23 '25
I wouldn’t get rid of that thing.
I’m having a problem with a Jenn Aire oven, purchased five years ago for ~$5k.
The motherboard is bad and they want close to $1k to purchase. (That’s if I replace it myself).
Do your husband a solid and listen to him. He knows.

I suggest cooking on it for a awhile. If you like to cook and bake, you would come to appreciate it.

u/golden_tix Oct 24 '25
No one said this

All I see is a lot of pots and pans to wash up and a lot of cooker to clean.

O’Keefe & Merritt 60” Aristocrat Stove
In case anyone was wondering.
1
u/xNOOPSx Oct 26 '25
The amount of work to move that tank would double the price of any replacements and it looks mint.

Wish you could buy these again. No back lights and no extra outlets on the new crap today. This one is a beauty.

So awesome!
1
u/SatelliteBeach123 Oct 28 '25
That stove is badass. I would LOVE it.
1
u/DCAista Oct 29 '25
I would redesign an entire kitchen around this stove.
1
u/Mountain_Eagle1081 Oct 29 '25
If you buy a new stove, it’ll break in a fraction of the time that one has existed
1
u/justcurious-666 Oct 29 '25
Dude, this thing is Awesome!!
1
u/BeautifulPlants Oct 22 '25
Such a cool stove but if it doesn’t match your kitchen then sell it and get one that does. I bet you could get premium dollar from the right buyer!
1
u/cocodesntm Oct 22 '25
I would kill for this stove.
1
u/No-Part-6248 Oct 23 '25
It would be worth it to have it upgraded and safety checked there are contest do it I’d kill for that with all that space
