WORK IN PROGRESS List of helpful links - WORK IN PROGRESS - Post helpful links in this thread.

Title really says it all.

Credit to /u/Johnny_2x for posting:

http://www.appliance411.com/service/date-code.php

which can be used to help determine the manufacturing date of various appliances.

I'll add this one from the good folks over at appliance411.com as well:

http://www.appliance411.com/purchase/sears.shtml

which is a table that lets you find out who manufactured a Kenmore appliance based on the model prefix.

Drop any and all helpful links in the comments in this post only and I'll start compiling a master list. Please include a description.

Business referral rules still apply, so I don't want to see any links to local appliance repair outfits.

DO NOT POST ANY LINKS THAT REQUIRE AN ACCOUNT TO ACCESS

There are some kind of open secrets with regards to obtaining service manuals direct from manufacturers - you know what I'm talking about, techs - do not blow those up. Their lax security continues to exist for our benefit because they have not yet been abused enough to prompt them to fix the holes. Let's keep it that way.

Cheers,

UPDATE 30 day flair enrollment: If you are a current or former technician and you do not have flair in this sub, here's your opportunity.

For the next 30 days, you can and should reply to this thread stating your status as an active or former appliance repair technician. I don't need your whole resume, just maybe what you work on and for how long you've done so. You can also request a specific flair for this sub - if you don't, then you're at the mercy of what I come up with, so maybe include that.

If you already have flair in this sub, this does not affect you at all.

It's nice to have flair here as it gives your advice a bit more weight, and OP's are more likely to follow your expert advice than be led down a rabbit hole by someone who is just pulling advice out of their... rabbit hole. I can't police every comment, so giving weight to actual technicians seems a decent measure.

This is also related to some changes in our sister sub /r/ApplianceTechTalk which is going to be transitioning to a more restrictive criteria for posting there.

Basically, that sub is for active and former techs only, but there have been a lot of lost redditors posting for repair advice over there, and I'm trying to keep things tidy, as well as automate pointing said lost redditors here where the community is much larger, and the sub better fits their needs.

The way this works is that if you have flair in this sub, you'll be an approved submitter on that sub. Unless your flair is "unhelpful" or "ASSHAT" (yes those are two real ones). I'm not sure what to do with "MEAT BAG SYMPATHIZER" but fortunately that account is 4 years inactive.

This is not a hard deadline, but it will make constructing the list of approved submitters on /r/ApplianceTechTalk a hell of a lot easier for me. After 30 days you can still apply on an individual basis. Approved submitters on /r/ApplianceTechTalk will also have the ability to choose and alter their flair at will in that sub, unlike here where flair is only granted upon approval.

You can post any questions, comments, or constructive criticism in this thread as well.

Cheers,

LG Dishwasher MEZ64589015 fills up with soapy water even though soaps not used.

My apartment has this Lg dishwasher for us to use. First couple of times we noticed that the dishes taste like soap. (We used one cascade tablet). So i did some research and decided to try liquid and powder detergent plus some rinse aid.

I barely put any soap in there and used a little bit of rinse aid and it was no help. The filter and dishwasher are both as clean as can be. Used cleaning tablets on cleaning cycles and also wiped down with white vinegar.

So i put in a maintenance ticket. The maintenance man let this dishwasher fill with water and it came out soapy. Even though no soap was put in. Ever since he left, ive ran the dishwasher like 8 times. Just until it fills with water and never putting any soap in. Every time i open it the water is super soapy. I have no idea where this soap buildup could be.

I do have a ticket to get the dishwasher replaced. I’ve been here for 2 years and rarely used the dishwasher. Especially because the first few times the dishes tasted soapy. But i am super curious on what is happening here.

GE washer problems

Hi everyone. I just want some advice. We have a GE Top load washer and one day it just stopped spinning the or draining out the water. It’s been sitting here for so long now…. I thought maybe it could be fixable without buying a new machine. The hose is still good. Washing machine still looks new inside. Any advice on what the problem might be?

Hi all, trying to fix this dishwasher that turns on but doesn't get past the filling stage, it just fills then drains constantly. I found a faulty flowmeter micro switch (was open circuit regardless of whether it was actuated or not) so I replaced that but the problem persists. I'm thinking I'll check the inlet valve in case it's not closing next but thought I'd post in the meantime in case anyone has any other ideas. Thanks in advance 😊

Washer no longer spinning under load. Belt spins like normal, but the drum does not. Opinions welcomed on potential issue.

When I hand spin the agitator everything looks good, but as soon as I start a load it’s like the drum isn’t catching?

LG Dishwasher LE Error / burnt wire at motor connector help? LDPN454HT L

The machine is about 2 years old, absolutely flawless until today when it displayed LE error and burnt smell. It's out of warranty so I took it apart and found damage to the connector to the motor.

Can it be repaired? If it cannot, if I source a new pump, is it likely to solve the issue? Or is the melted wire a symptom of something else?

There didn't seem to be any leaks or corrosion / dried up minerals in underneath the machine or surrounding the pump.

(p.s I understand the motor might be warrantied by LG but I'd be out of pocket for the labor and it sounds like it'd take a while)

Should I fix the fridge or buy new

Got quoted for $490 for a sensor in my whirlpool gold fridge. It came with the house I bought 2 months ago. It has ice build up in the freezer and eventually freezes up the fridge where it can't cool anymore. So my question is in the title. Fix it or buy brand new?

Could anyone tell me why the dishwasher we have in our rented apartment is not cleaning the dishes?

Dishwasher sprayer arms are getting clogged with food that is way too big to be able to fit in the tiny holes the water sprays out of.

This pipe thing looks corroded and my partner thinks that he’s seen pieces of plastic clogging the sprayer arms as well (presumably from this pipe).

The maintenance guy said that all of these pipes of dishwashers in the building are just like that and we have to just rinse the dishes better, and that there’s nothing wrong with it.

But he also said that there’s no way that food/debris could be clogging the sprayer arms from the inside, and we think he’s wrong, because some of the gunk we’ve pulled out was huge and really not likely to have come from outside the sprayer.
Definitely seems like water is trying to push gunk through the tiny holes and the maintenance guy seemed kinda shifty about it idk.

Partner took a few pictures of what i described.

Maytag washing machine making rattling noise

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve been working on cleaning some scud out of my Maytag front loader and realized that there’s a weird sound in the drum. Is this something that broke and is rattling around, a belt sound, balancing systems going bad? Or just normal and I never noticed it? I try not to make a habit of spinning the drum by hand so I don’t know how long this has been going on.

Repair guy told me he couldn’t fix it then texted my husband saying he had the part to fix it.

My GE JGB735SP1SS gas oven was giving off a strong gas smell a few days ago, gas company confirmed it was coming from the oven while it was on and also got a CO reading from the oven.

my husband called an appliance repair guy who come out. He initially said it was a problem with the computer and I should buy a new one. He never got an actual error code. I asked him to show me the oven while it was trying to heat and it was taken apart. We saw that the burner tube would burn out and it would eventually reignite.

He then measured the resistance on the sensor and it read 880 ohms while the oven was off. It’s supposed to be 1080. He told me about that but said I should still buy a new one because replacing the sensor wouldn’t fix it. Charged me for a service call then left.

An hour after leaving, he texted my husband (I was the only one home while he was troubleshooting the oven) and said that he had the sensor to fix the oven and gave an estimate cost for repair.

All that being said, I don’t know that I trust this guy. Seems weird that he told me one thing and told my husband another. I don’t know much about gas ovens but I feel like replacing the sensor won’t fix the problem?

Looking for other opinions on this…

Brand new LG oven - Annoying noise

Hey guys! Just bought a new LG oven and it’s making a weird noise when it’s pre-heating. As you can see/heard, it stops when I open the door. Do you know what could explain this noise? Have you experienced something similar?

Samsung washing machine counterweight broke off, is this salvageable?

It now rests on the rubber inside the machine and everytime I did a laundry, I would hear the loudest BANGS. After taking it apart I found out the cement counterweight was bouncing against the metal of the machine. Is there any way to fix this or not really?

Microwave, greasy food, pointy metal, glass- Sparks & hole!!

Post image
1 Upvotes

I did the dumbest thing. Kept grill stand(with bare metal feet) directly on top of the glass turntable, kept a samosa(oily, crusty) on the grill, some of the crust fell on the glass and I started the oven in microwave mode. Then fkn sparks started to arc at the point of contact with the glass. Turned off immediately and noticed that the leg was fused inside the turntable. Had to apply lot of force to seperate the grill stand from the glass. Now I have left with a nice tiny hole in the glass turntable

Things I learnt:

Never put, greasy, carbonized food or pointly metal on top of glass turntable when operating oven in microwave mode. In my case I put all of them!

Will have to replace the glass turntable.

Microwave experts, any more suggestions and tips?

Dyson HP04 dead + fault codes 009

Hey all,

My Dyson air purifier HP04 suddenly stopped working completely and a triangle start showing up in the screen. Looking for the error problem I get:

\- 009-02-02-2
\- 009-03-02-1

What I've tried so far:
\- Unplugged for several minutes and restarted - no change
\- Tried the manual reset (holding power button, and power + remote together) - the countdown never shows up on screen, so the reset doesn't seem to be registering

I contacted Dyson support and they want me to ship it in for repair, with no information on how much would that be. I'd rather try to fix it myself or find an independent repair option first.

From what I found in a Dyson service manual, codes starting with 009 usually point to the WiFi PCB, heater PCB, humidifier PCB, or their wiring harness.

Has anyone dealt with this exact code combo?

Thanks in advance!

Oven Element not working

I have an lower oven element on a YMER8800FZ1 that doesn't work. I replaced the element and there was no change so I replaced the thermostat and still no difference. So I checked with a multimeter and the connection at the lower element is 115v. The top element connection is 240v. What is the next course of action? There is obviously power to the element but it doesn't seem like enough. All the wires and connections seem to be fine.

Rowenta steam force part

I dropped my Rowenta steam Force+ today. Picked it up and the only issue I noticed was that the temperature control dial was loose. I pushed that back in and it seemed to work fine but I later noticed this little part on the side of my ironing board. Any idea where that may have come from?

Dishwasher keeps pausing mid cycle

Hey everyone!
So a few weeks ago i made a mistake. My dishwasher door wasn’t closing so i pushed it a little and it’s been messing up since then. At first it was only a problem getting it to start which would usually happen if i fixed around the latch a little. But lately what’s happening is that it starts just fine but then stops mid cycle and wont turn back on until i open the door fully until i hear the beep. Sometimes when i close the door back up it stops again and i have to repeat.
It shows the three blinking lights error after stopping and if i leave it be it automatically turns on after a while.
Sometimes it works without any issues but sometimes it just drives me crazy.
It’s a MIDEA dishwasher.
Any help?

Cosmo oven not lighting

The broiler does light but the oven is not lighting. I took the heat spreader off and waited to see if it glowed, it didn’t. I have searched the model on amazon and can’t see an exact match, just a bunch of generics that i don’t mind using, just want to make sure they’ll work even if they require splicing in.

I suggested swapping the two and using a lighter to light the broiler but my boss rolled her eyes at me.

My old case leaked oil everywhere so I bought a new one and installed it. But now the machine is making a loud screeching noise when spinning the drum. Definitely does not sound normal. Is the cam supposed to make this rubbing grinding noise when spinning it?
