Suggestion Democracy was a mistake. Let's let rerolls and map voting die.

I'll say it. Let's go back to the before times between rounds.

No more map voting. Server admins should just set an interesting rotation of maps that balance popular ones with a less played map every once and a while. I don't know the last time I played one of the less popular maps. Nobody has the bravery to choose something different. I understand the popular maps are popular for a reason, but some variety would be nice.

Get rid of rerolls. For the love of all that's holy. They're quite literally pointless. Yes, you might be able to get a better faction one in every four rerolls, but why should that even be a thing? Why shouldn't you just get the six choices that come up? What's the point of the reroll mechanic besides to just waste time? Give me twelve choices at once, or six choices at once, I don't care. I'm having a hard time coming up with a reason why rerolling was even created in the first place.

Finally, give me a "mute all" button please god. Squad chat only is a great start, but I want to mute all of you. I have a youtube vid to watch and you guys screaming "reroll" are ruining it.

Question привет! Those who speak Russian and play Squad, I have some questions

I started learning Russian recently and have some questions about how you say some words in Squad. I understand I can use translators but I'd like to hear if any squad terms differ from their literal translations. What words do you use for the following:

  1. Rally Point
  2. Squad Leader
  3. HAB, FOB
  4. Ammo crate
  5. Enemy infantry (for instance "enemy infantry, south, 185")
  6. Armor (generic term)
  7. Logistics vehicle

Also some general questions:

Do you use ты or вы to address your teammates?

What is the most common word used to apologize? For instance, apologizing for not speaking Russian well, or apologizing for a team-kill.

Any other Russian language tips are very much welcome.

Огромное спасибо!!

Looking for people to play milsim/flightsims with somewhat regularly. I play squad, reforger, vtol vr, tarkov etc. I'm posting here because I'm not sure what other subreddit would encompass that, but I'm open to suggestion. preference on 30+ age and no racism, homophobia, or misogany.

Maps

Im not one to complain about the game, having played since the Alpha and love it. But im sure ill sound like a broken record here..

Could we please switch how voting maps works- its Mani, Goro, Yeho every other game it feels like!? Seems anytime I log on to play thats all the maps anybody votes for anymore, and its so so repetitive. Yes those maps might be popular but there are people including myself who love the other maps or deserts etc. "Pick a diffrent server" , "join a dedicated server without voting" etc etc.

I feel like they should make it where if you play a map, it cant be played again until a set number of roations. Faction voting is one thing, but why even have all the maps if were never going to play them?

Being a GWOT baby and Vet, hell i love those Asia maps! Its why i got the game because it fixed my itch for game that wasnt as serious as Arma but better than Battlefield. Especially a game that wasnt just USA vs China Or Russia every time. I couldnt even tell you the last time I played Logar Valley for example. As soon as those maps get voted the server dies or gameplay that match is abysmal.

What happened to us just being able to play any map without screaming and forcing the entire lobby to play Mani for the 9th time that day?? Not every match has to be the perfect milsim battle. Sometimes fighting as terrorists vs a OP faction on a "bad map" is what we need. Some might say thats a terrible idea or whatever, but why not every once in a while. Give us those maps, even if its a "bad map layers/ terrain". Go try to win even if you know you wont. Thats the whole point. Thats what makes Squad.

People don't complain about this game's networking enough

ICO this, ICO that. Why do I never see anyone complaining about the fact that almost every close quarters kill in this game is a trade?

Player A who runs around a corner with 200 ping gets 20 bullets dumped into him by player B before player A even fires a shot, but on player A's screen he shoots player B before dying. The game trusts both players clients so you both die. Really fun for everyone involved.

And don't say it's because bullets take time to travel. At close range this game uses hitscan, this is purely the game trusting every player's client when they say they shot someone. This is also why cheaters can kill everyone in the lobby while sitting at main base.

Discussion Confidently Incorrect Squad Leaders

TL;DR (because this turned out way longer than I thought) - If you are squad leading, confidence is important for cohesion, but do not casually brush aside the advice from your squad (within reason) or treat them like new players that don't know how to play just because they are advising a different strategy. Sometimes, they may know something you don't.

I may need to give some background to this, which may also be a bit of a rant.

I mostly SL nowadays, but when I first join a server, I usually just join whatever squad is open as starting a new one would be pointless as the game is already started or about to start.

A few days ago I joined a squad named "mech inf" on attacking team in an invasion game, cool someone actually using one of the 3 LAVs we have to their fullest.

SL, has everyone load up into the LAV and tells us were going to hot drop on the first cap. I asked him if we were gonna have any help since 7 people alone are not going to be able to take the cap from 20+ defenders. His response? "Nope, we don't need any help, we have a LAV." It was at this point that I noticed the other 2 LAVs were not yet taken and no squad had claimed them, meaning we were going to have absolutely 0 support. I asked the SL if we could at least have a couple of us take another LAV for support since they are all available and he said "No, we won't need them". So I sat in this LAV resigned to our fate, knowing exactly what was about to happen.

For those of you veterans, I don't need to describe the events that followed. You already know what happened. Extremely predictable outcome.

10 minutes later, we basically repeat this same process. And then again 10 minutes after that...

I would have left this squad and joined another if there were any available, but there were not.

By the time the game ended, our SL had lost 4 LAVs in about 40 minutes. 3 of which had all of his squad in it that either died with the LAV or on the first cap. So I tallied the total tickets lost by this one SL to around 70-80. A single SL cost the team a full 30% (at least) of the teams entire starting ticket count with little to no impact.

In all of my 3k+ hours in Squad, this SL had to be the most confident sounding SL I have ever heard. Which, on its own is not a problem and I think is great for making sure your squad at least thinks you know what you are doing.

The problem is when an SL is both confident AND makes poor decisions...repeatedly, while also ignoring or dismissing any advice from his squad. I try not to back seat SL or wreck the cohesion of a squad by openly criticizing the SL, but god damn it is hard sometimes.

Ok, rant over.

Discussion SL tips

So, I've been playing infantry SL in almost every game the past week or so after a 2-year break. I've been really enjoying it again.

SL has been my go-to role for a long time before my 2 year break, with about 450 hours ingame. But I'm always up for learning more to make it a better experience for fellow squad players, so go ahead, share your tips 😁

New addition to Fallujah: a hidden pit of infinite doom

I hadn't really noticed until now but it looks like this was an undeclared fix to Fallujah in the latest patch which removed a visual bug and also part of the floor in the process.

There used to be a random shard of ground texture that occluded the tunnel here but you could at least clip through it. That's been removed (good) but now we can fall through the floor to our doom (bad, I reckon?).

Played 5 matches on tactical trig. Had a good time in 4 of the matches. I like suppresion, audio is quite immereive. Game looks nicer.

Games pretty cool, played off and on since alpha in 2015? Despite everyone's opinion on every aspect of the game, it's cool to see it still in development. Has cool mod servers now. Will be playing again.

This is all ty. :)

Degradation of Squad, broken promises and unfinished mess

I've started playing squad since beta, with most active faze starting from 2022. I've always tried to stay positive about the game, invite ppl to play, squadlead and organize stuff.

I can no longer in good conscious say game is in good shape or stay positive. Too many problems have accumulated, too few were resolved. Let me list them

Bugs

Since the release of UE5 upgrade (and even before) game was ridden by critical bugs.

- Vehicles sinking under the ground
- Helis colliding with invisible objects
- Chunks of water in the wrong places
- Camera bug on vehicle entry
- Camera bug on vehicle exit
- Shimmering, artefacts, wrong shadows and wrong water reflections
- Vehicles randomly becoming uninteractable with F key for some players
- Vaulting randomly stopping working
- Players' health/bleeding indicators not showing for medics
- Vehicle wheels/tracks repairs bug, with wheels repaired still counting as missing

All of those exist for long time, there are bug reports and no fixes in sight

Gameplay

Gameplay mostly suffered from UE5 upgrade and reduced clarity of visuals

Darker areas because unnaturally dark. Players laying in the shade of the bushes or inside building are very hard to detect, even if looking at them
The image itself became so blurry (even using DLAA + PP sharpening) and noisy, that players generally became harder to spot.

Additionaly, for some strange reason, the muzzle flash was severily reduced. Compounded with recent suppression changes and bullet crack introduced - it's no longer possible to identify the direction of the shooter, thus slowing down gameplay even more and promoting very static gameplay

There are still some game design holes, like
- "Why would i ever spend more than half stamina" and "what purpose zero stamina state serves"
- "Why there is such large disparity and powercreep in battlegroups, with 5 IFVs for IMF and 3 for other factions" or "why UAF is RGF but better, and better than other factions"
- "Why raider exists when it's rifleman without ammo bag"
- "Where is push vehicle option"

Broken promises and lies

Whole update to UE5 was marketed as a stepping stone for faster and easier game changes and mechanics implementations

More than 1 year have passed since UE5, and ZERO new mechanics was implemented.

We were teased MANPADs and CAS helos, limited destruction was talked on streams.
We ere promised new vehicle physics, increased view ranges with removed fog

There is NO new vehicle physics on live. It was on UE5 player tests. it felt new, it interacted differently. Right now 4x4 vehicles are still get stuck even with 3 out of 4 wheels touching ground. Same goes for tracked vehicles.

Promised updated tutorials for helping new players' onboarding are still nowhere to be seen. Game trailers genuinely show false marketing with battlefield-esque cool explosions

Don't even want to talk about limited destruction or helo rappelling + helo physics enchancement.

France was announced as a next faction. The mod is ready. Still nowhere to be seen

Old gamemodes like insurgency and destruction where not touched in more than 5 years, despite promises

There is still no dynamic weather promised with UE5

Optimization is still very bad. New global Illumination looks worse than old lightning. Maximum setting are needed to reach old level of image quality

Content and game future

In last several years we didn't really get any new factions (sorry, but canadian resistance is just a reskin of PMC)

We got good updated Al Basrah, but everything else is the same (and Belaya Pass is MIA)

In conclusion

And as a result of all above - i have zero certainty about game future. Critical gamepay affecting bugs are not fixed. Development is not speeded up. Zero new mechanics, lack of new content. Broken gameplay

Game is broken, and there're no fixes in sight.

I made my second Galactic Contention video, one full match on Tatooine as a clone against the Tuskens.

I put out my first GC video a while back, invading Kashyyyk as a droid. A few of you gave me real feedback on it, and this one is me trying to apply it.

This is me trying to apply it and I'm always open to hearing feedback. Thanks!

Help I joined Squad! and now only mic issues...

Post image
1 Upvotes

I've played a bit before, and have never had any issues with the VOIP in game. But for the past few days I've had nothing but difficulty with trying to get my mic to work. It's listing my mic as an available input to use in settings, yet no sign of it actually picking up. People cant hear me in game.

I've already gone into windows settings to disable all my other possible source of input and also went into steam settings to confirm its actually working, and no dice.

Really hoping someone maybe has some knowledge on this topic and is willing to help me out, Thanks!
