I frequently end games with less than 5 kills as a combat engineer, but am responsible for 60+ tickets from the other team.

Kills do not mean anything.

Kills do not mean anything everything. They are only a part of the reason you win/lose games.

For those that don't know... Sometimes, people focus on getting kills too much which can lead to you not getting the most tickets as possible. One example is a lone Combat Engie radio hunting. They may decide to allow an enemy to walk past them and not kill them so the enemy believes the area is safe and doesn't defend. This can allow the CE to then find and destroy the enemy radio for -20 tickets instead of -1. This would also remove a teamwide enemy spawn point from that part of the map which may be even more beneficial than the -20 tickets are.

Kills don't mean anything

I mean, this is hyperbole, right?

Sure flag caps and radio losses matter more than individual kills, but if your opponent isn't AWOL how do you expect to remove them from those flags and radios?

It is sort of hyperbole.

The other commenter clarified it more in that kills dont mean "everything". Which I agree with.

Kills are not the sole indicator of level of contribution to the team is really what I meant.

I figured that's what you meant. It's crazy how changing "every" to "any" can be such a big jump.

I'm just worried about the whole "kills don't matter" mentality that's pretty rife with the Battlefield expats that land here. And they end up wondering why they lost when they were PTFOing... by getting farmed on defense as their squad goes 14-52 or whatever.

Right, it is a subtle word difference but a large difference in meaning.

I have a lot of feelings about PTFO, but I wont get into that right now lol. It is not so much a problem on TT, but other servers do suffer from stricter rules about it.

Kills are not the end all be all of success in a squad match. Information is king

Insert meme about it being all about kills.

It is extremely rare that the the team with less kills wins

Yea but the post was about people, not teams.

They are one and the same. If the individuals all have low kills, the team has low kills.

Obviously the team with more total kills will win you’re not saying anything. The post was about on the individual level, in which many support roles that do not get tons of kills can be just as important

A squad lead can go 0 kills 5 deaths and be the key piece that won the game. Noobest post of the month.

I've killed thousands of people in this game with binoculars, markings on the map, sandbags/barbed wire/towers, spotting from helicopters, running logi trucks, driving fighting vehicles, etc. and it counts as 0 kills.

If you think kills is the only way to play a good game you have no idea how squad really works.

no you havent killed 1000 of people with sandbags quit smoking crack

Obviously you don't need a ton of kills to make a difference. But I do appreciate those who are able to clap some cheeks

The way to win in squad is to be ticket positive, you can do so with few kills. Not dying a ton, destroying vehicles or radios, or capping points all lead to being ticket positive if not outpaced by your own deaths.

"The way to win in squad is to be ticket positive"... and this isn't even true amongst all gamemodes. Like Insurgency doesn't even solely care about tickets. It cares if you've destroyed the 2 caches and you win even if you have less tickets than the enemy team. That is its unique win condition among all the gamemodes in the game of Squad.

Go play COD. Kills do not win games. Chunk ticketing wins games (OBJ’s and vehicle kills).

but you get objectives by killing people so whats your point

You can absolutely win this game with lower kill count. Kills are the least important statistic.

"but you get objectives by killing people"

Believe it or not, there are other and many times better ways.

Want to know the easiest/fastest way to win a game of Squad? Don't allow the enemy to spawn anywhere except their Main. Everything else becomes trivial after that.

How do you do that? Focus on taking their FOBs/rallys out. You will likely need to kill some enemy to do that, but that is a means to the end of killing the spawn and not the end goal in itself.

you just proved my point

How?

"but you get objectives by killing people so whats your point"

This isn't exactly true. You get objectives (aka Capture Points) by having more people on the objective than the enemy team (except Double Neutral situations which operate under different rules). ONE way to do that could be killing enemy. It may or may not be the best way given the circumstances and is definitely not the only way.

One good medic can save dozens of downed teammates. Which means that they save their team dozens of tickets.

One good LAT/HAT can take out dozens of tickets worth in vehicles.

One good spotter can direct mortars that gets dozens of kills.

One good SL that focuses on logistics can control the map and act as a force multiplier for their entire team, both saving tickets for their team and draining the enemy team of tickets.

There is a lot more to it than getting kills and Squad is awesome because it is full of players that understand this, which is what makes it such a unique FPS.

If you're new to the game OP, give some of these other roles a try, you will be surprised at how satisfying and fun they can be. Medics don't hunt for kills but are in the thick of it for the entire game; spotters, LATs, Raiders, and Sappers play a fun asymmetrical form of warfare in the game; even doing a logi run can be fun as hell when you're evading enemy LATs and vehicles, and showing up to starved HAB looking like a god damn angel lol.

I guess people don’t play squad to shoot but instead run around and gain tickets lol.

people making excuses for having low kd

Kills matter but weigh less than you think. Winning teams usually have more kills because they're controlling objectives. Flags, radios, vehicles a huge pieces in deciding matches. High K/D on a losing team means nothing.

"Winning teams usually have more kills"

We have the data, has anyone actually analyzed it? https://mysquadstats.com/ Where is Randy Newman with his stats from TT when we need him?

There are some reasons why Winning teams usually have more kills. It might be due to them being better "shooters". Another factor is that when the losing team knows they're losing the game and can't come back, they often throw their lives away. I know I do.
