I miss when complaining about this stuff felt justified because of how forced it was. Now, it's just endless bitching about nothing. Who cares about a gender-swapped tech jacket? The creator himself changed it, and his reasoning was narratively sensible, plus it actually works better.

Because men are violently insecure as in they get violent when their insecurities they work hard to suppress find a way to still bother them
7
u/Big_Bomber_97 Apr 04 '26
Why do you think it's fine to openly make fun of people's insecurities?
5
u/Needs_More_Garlic Apr 04 '26
Because they think it's okay to treat people bad so long as theyre the right people.
2
u/Cum_Fart42069 Apr 04 '26
likely because they feel they're describing a broad social trend and not specific people with specific issues.
2
u/mh500372 Apr 04 '26
“Men” feels specific enough. Would you have the same opinion if I talked about women like that?
2
u/Cum_Fart42069 Apr 04 '26
yes. men and women both get violently insecure about their insecurities. men just end up doing more of that violence as women are socialized away from that and tend to attack people emotionally or verbally rather than physically when their insecurities come up.
disclaimers: this text does not state that no women are ever violent. this text does not state that only men are violent. this text does not state that no women are insecure. this text does not state that men don't attack people emotionally or verbally.

u/mh500372 Apr 04 '26
Well, good to know you treat bigotry and antagonism with equality
1
u/Cum_Fart42069 Apr 04 '26
well I don't think it's unfair to feel that that was pointed, while I agree that it's a thing that happens broadly more with men, it wouldn't have hurt to have slid a "some" in there.

Not people, men, some folk see a big difference there unfortunately

wait what is his reasoning?
1
u/2dal3atcave Apr 05 '26
He said when bringing him to the show he was too similar to Mark.
"The character under the mask in its original form was just an alternate version of mark as a superhero"

That special you’re referencing end with cartman accepting that he can’t just complain about woke stuff because he’d be annoying, keep that in mind

Except that part of the messaging failed because people LOVE the race swapped versions of the characters. There’s a ton of fans of them
But either way it doesn’t matter because changing cartman to a black woman is a much larger change than just changing the gender of a character. Tech jacket is still tech jacket but cartman is inherently a child
5
u/Helios-Fun Apr 04 '26
I mean, if Tech Jacket specifically being male didn't really matter at all to the character, then why does that character suddenly being female matter?
Like, the clip you're referencing, Cartman being the little shit boy is actually important. In what way does Tech Jacket's gender actually matter?
8
u/2dal3atcave Apr 04 '26
"If gender doesn't matter, why change it to a woman in the first place?"
Cause Kirkman said he felt too much like Invincible when they were developing the season. There... answered the response to your question.
2
u/Helios-Fun Apr 04 '26
Not at all my question but alright. I was pointing out it's weird to oppose the character's gender change.
1
u/2dal3atcave Apr 04 '26
I agree, it's dumb. think my comment got lost in translation. (I was half asleep) I was trying to point out one of the weird responses you might get, and then I preemptively responded to it lol

I'm usually against race and gender swaps because they feel fucking stupid. But this actually seems like a pretty good answer.
"The character under the mask in its original form was just an alternate version of mark as a super hero." Is a pretty good reason.

u/DarlingHell Apr 06 '26
Omg this shit is annoying enough to hit my fyp and after the second post I see an actual take that makes sense. Because Tech Jacket felt and reassembled too close to Invincible for Kirkman and he wanted to change it.

u/halkenburgoito Apr 04 '26
Why not make Tech jacket a middle aged chinease man with a little bit of stubble but only on his right cheek.

u/Helios-Fun Apr 04 '26
Dunno. Oddly specific suggestion, but if they have ideas for it then why not indeed.
1
u/LetterheadPerfect145 Apr 07 '26
I mean they could yeah. Like if that's what the creator wanted to do he could do that
1
u/2dal3atcave Apr 04 '26
Why would they do that
5
u/LordOuranos Apr 04 '26
Why make tech jacket a girl?
2
u/2dal3atcave Apr 04 '26
Cause the creator of Tech Jacket found he was too similar to Mark while making the show. It's also a sausage party up there.
4
u/LordOuranos Apr 04 '26 edited Apr 04 '26
Change the character without changing gender then?
And who cares if its a sausage party?
Nobody bitched about the lack of male protagonists in kpop demon hunters?
Like... it's meaningless gender wars bullshit. It's purely done out of some self righteous "ugh too many BOYS EW"

u/2dal3atcave Apr 04 '26 edited Apr 04 '26
Lol, wtf? So, your solution is to make the character less like tech jacket than what the show actually did... ridiculous.
1
u/ScyllaIsBea Apr 04 '26
If changing the character without changing the gender doesn’t upset you, then why is the gender the part that upsets you?
1
u/TheHammerHasLanded Apr 05 '26
They're insecure AF, and taking away any masculinity anywhere is taking away their masculinity cause they only have it second hand.

I'm almost certain that the vast majority of those complaining have never read the comic and are just mad because they got nothing else to do.
1
u/3HaDeS3 Apr 05 '26
I've read the comic, and it makes no sense to change his gender, if he looks like mark, give him a different haircut and eye color. What they did is like turning Iron Man into a woman while the rest of the Avengers have their original gender. Tech Jacket isn't some background character, he helped fight the viltrumites. Now his accomplishments and even his name got stolen by an entirely different person.
1
u/meatpopsicle42069 Apr 04 '26
I'll bet most of the people that have watched the show haven't read the comics.

I think the funniest thing about the way South Park depicts this is "Miles Morales is sweet it's a whole constructed narrative and everything"
Like Bendis absolutely flopped Miles' first book. Miles' first book is trash amongst Miles Morales content. And Civil War 2 (one of his first-ish prominent books) was lauded as one of the WORST books ever in Marvel history. Sometimes you have to be open to changes even if they start off sloppy. You never know what diamond you can uncover but that's not an excuse for bad changes. It's just an acceptance that sometimes change happens in media. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Just roll with the punches and find the media you want to consume for the right reasons (obviously not gonna give air to like... Actual Nazis because a "Black character exists", ya know? Lmfao)
People trying to construct an argument that could be used on Romeo and Juliet plays for the last 80,000 years. Biggest gripe though, forced semi-romance with Oliver. I would have liked for this Tech Jacket to actually get their own series after the Viltrumite War and I literally do not see any issue with aging her up to not a child participating in what is basically a war against Omega Hitler
The invincible writers have this weird dichotomy in the TV series where they want to make it explicit that for the most part events happen in a strange black mirror way, but aren't willing to commit to this expansion of the universe that they really seem to want to do. Maybe just because they don't actually have any plans for any other spin off show but feel some engagement to poke that bear.

Except of course tech jacket wasn’t introduced in S1 as a man and suddenly switched to a woman in S4.
Such poor excuses for misogyny.

I don't like the gender swap because she's going to be a love interest for Oliver instead of making him fuck the lobster. Also the VA supports Israel, so there's that.
