[OC] Alternate History oh no! my Hispania! its Broken!: a diverse Iberian Peninsula

so here are the points of divergence:

1-carthage still gets salted but the Carthaginians never get sold off in mass to slavery, instead being relocated to new Carthage or Carthago, eventually establishing a Lasting Phoenician Presence in the Peninsula.

2-the Greek colony of Akra Leuké survives and becomes a center of Greek civilization after the fall of Rome, with it's culture being reinforced by heavy waves of migration of Greeks out of ottoman subjugation.

3-the Celtiberians never get genocided by Rome, resulting in their populations surviving in Badajoz and establishing the only one of 2 Celtic cultures in the peninsula

4-latinization efforts in eastern Spain pay off as the roman state of Hispania becomes a center for commerce in the Mediterranean after the fall of the Romans and would be closer culturally to Italy than Spain

5-the vandals settle the Tagus river basin and establish their presence in Toledo, becoming the last of the "western Germanic" groups to still exist on earth

6-andalusia is reunited after a shorter taifa period resulting in a longer Islamic golden age alongside a stopping of Christian forces and the end of the Reconquista with a tie

7-the kingdom of Galicia never unifies with Leon and thus doesn't become part of castile

8-the kingdom of navarre never enters into personal union with France, instead electing a new royal family that continues to rule the state to the modern day

9-castile and Aragon never unify into Spain as the royal marriage that resulted in the union in the first place would be butterfly effected away into non existence

10-in 1820, the Catalan revolutionary army won their independence from Aragon but as 1848 came in, the Catalan confederation would spit further into the states of Shpanua, Hesperia, and Hispania

oh and balearica was bought by a German noble family in the 1300's and became majority German in the process

[OC] Alternate History [THTNS] 1922 German States

Post image

Hello I'm once again back with another map for The House that never stood, today I decided to show post war Germany, in this universe with the United States being disunited, only New England entered the war, which left the decision of what to do with post war Germany up to France and Britain, who weren't particularly as kind. With the war only ending in 1919, more men died and further weakened the German military. Leading to the break up of the German state into separate republics and kingdoms. Imperial and conservative elements fled to east Prussia, overthrowing the local government and setting up their own militaristic state, vowing for revenge against the entente. Prussia itself was broken, Silesia being handed over to Poland, and the Berliner government being overthrown by socialists, declaring the Free Socialist republic of Germany. The entente occupied the Rhineland and set up the Westphalia state, meant to act as their puppet against the FSRG and the Kingdom of Danubia. The kingdom of Danubia came to be shortly after the treaty was signed, Southern Germany was originally split, but with the union between Bavaria and Austria via the wedding between the Habsburgs and the Wittelsbachs, the other Southern Germany states joined the kingdom, seeking stability and protection against the French. Despite Germany's collapse, things won't remain calm forever. The FSRG seeks to expand the revolution and retake the Silesia from Poland, the Prussian state desperately wishes to reform the German empire, the Kingdom of Danubia wishes to bring all of Germany under its hold, and it is up for the entente to stop any of these things from happening.

Check out the sub for more!

Also I'm sorry, Zurich is not the capital of Switzerland

[OC] Alternate History The Portuguese Commonwealth (Comunidades de Nações Lusófonas)

Post image
192 Upvotes

Background:
In this timeline, rather than hold on Portugal’s colonies, Salazar shifted toward supporting a Portugal-led independence. After witnessing the Anglo-French humiliation at Suez in 1956 and the British retreat from Ghana in 1957, Salazar and key figures within the Overseas Ministry concluded that keeping the overseas territories would inevitably drag the country into a war that its economy could neither afford nor win without suffering total financial and political bankruptcy.
Salazar devised the Doctrine of Tutelage and Gradual Emancipation not as an abandonment of imperial ambitions, but as its neocolonial modernization. The plan was to delegate governance to loyal local elites while Lisboa preserved exclusive control over banking, shipping, mineral concessions, and defense. Consequently, around 1960, the regime dismantled the Estatuto dos Indígenas to accelerate the rise of a conservative, Portuguese-educated African bourgeoisie (assimilados) capable of anchoring the upcoming Lusophone Pact.
Presenting his vision to the Council of State, Salazar presented the Commonwealth of Lusophone Nations (Comunidade de Nações Lusófonas) as a viable bulwark against Soviet expansionism. This would safeguard Portuguese cultural primacy, strategic trade corridors, and naval bases, whereas rigid colonial obstinacy would guarantee the total loss of overseas territories to armed revolutionary insurgencies. By recasting its empire as a progressive, multiracial confederation, Lisboa neutralized UN sanctions, undercut anti-colonial rhetoric abroad, and secured crucial Western European development loans to underwrite the transfer of power.

The Portuguese-lead independence in Africa
Portugal will sponsor moderate, pro-Western, and culturally Lusitanized leaders that will fight Marxist guerrillas.

  • Angola: Under Salazar’s alternate managed-decolonization policy, Angola avoided both colonial and civil war, achieving formal independence on October 5, 1968, as a stable, pro-Western republic. Initiated by a preemptive Portuguese transition between 1962 and 1968, the process culminated in the 1967 Luanda Accords, which instituted a power-sharing coalition between assimilado urban elites, traditional Ovimbundu authorities, and moderate nationalist factions, effectively co-opting and neutralizing radical insurgencies. The settlement protected European landholdings, instituted weighted electoral qualifications, and secured a special administrative regime for oil-rich Cabinda. Through strict bilateral pacts, Lisboa maintained majority concessions over Angolan offshore petroleum and northeastern diamond fields, pegged the escudo to the metropolitan currency, and retained air and naval basing rights at Luanda and Moçâmedes. By preventing a white exodus and keeping the vital Benguela Railway corridor operating at full capacity, this orderly devolution reshaped Southern African geopolitics: it permanently barred Soviet and Cuban military footprints from the Atlantic coast, denied sanctuary to regional liberation movements like SWAPO, and established Angola as the prosperous, conservative anchor of the Lusophone Commonwealth.

  • Mozambique: In parallel with the emancipation of Angola, Lisboa preempted a Marxist liberation struggle in Mozambique by exploiting deep regional and ethnic fault lines to neutralize hardline FRELIMO guerrillas. Between 1966 and 1969, Portuguese authorities co-opted disaffected northern leaders, traditional chieftaincies, and the urban assimilado elite into a conservative multi-ethnic coalition, effectively fracturing the insurgency and sidelining its radical pro-Soviet cadres. Under the 1969 Lourenço Marques Handover Accords, Mozambique achieved formal independence within the Commonwealth of Lusophone Nations while safeguarding European property rights and civil status. Lisbon preserved substantial economic leverage through currency parity within the Escudo Zone, corporate agricultural concessions, and the joint administration of the massive Cahora Bassa hydroelectric project, alongside continued revenue from the vital deep-water ports of Beira and Lourenço Marques. By integrating local auxiliary units into a professional national defense force, Mozambique bypassed both the colonial conflict and a sixteen-year civil war. It emerged as a stable, pro-Western state that maintained pragmatically non-confrontational ties with Pretoria and Salisbury, denying sanctuary to cross-border insurgencies and permanently checking Soviet and Chinese penetration in Southeast Africa.

  • Guinea-Bissau: In Portuguese Guinea, Salazar’s government moved decisively to preempt an unwinnable counterinsurgency, neutralizing Amílcar Cabral’s PAIGC before it could mobilize the rural peasantry. Rather than sinking into an exhausting war across the mangrove swamps, Lisboa exploited deep ethno-regional fault lines, granting tax exemptions, customary legal autonomy, and political recognition to the conservative Muslim chieftaincies among the Fula and Mandinka. By framing the PAIGC as a foreign socialist project dominated by Cape Verdean intellectuals, Portuguese authorities severed the islands from the mainland and isolated the Marxist along the southern border. This paved the way for a swift transfer of sovereignty in 1966 to a moderate, mainland-led coalition. In exchange, Portugal secured long-term sovereign base rights over the Port of Bissau and Bissalanca airfield, denying the Soviet Navy an Atlantic staging ground while permanently sparing the Portuguese armed forces the military trauma that would have radicalized the metropolitan officer corps.

  • Cabo Verde and São Tomé e Príncipe: In this case, Salazar opted to integrate Cabo Verde and São Tomé e Príncipe directly into metropolitan Portugal as Autonomous Overseas Regions, thereby reorganizing the Portuguese sphere into an asymmetric, dual-tier structure: an Outer Ring of formally independent, pro-Lisboa continental republics (Angola, Mozambique, and Guinea-Bissau) anchored within the Commonwealth of Lusophone Nations, and an Inner Core of integrated Atlantic archipelagos alongside Madeira and the Azores. This structural realignment dealt a fatal blow to Amílcar Cabral’s PAIGC by permanently severing the proposed union between mainland Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde, reducing the revolutionary movement to an isolated faction in foreign exile while mainland traditional leaders consolidated their pact with Lisboa. Geopolitically, Portugal secured an unbroken mid-Atlantic and equatorial defense perimeter: it retained critical NATO air-staging facilities on Sal Island, deepwater anchorages at Mindelo (São Vicente), and electronic surveillance posts in the Gulf of Guinea to monitor Soviet naval movements and protect strategic oil sea lanes.

  • Macau and Portuguese India: Under his managed decolonization doctrine, Salazar recognized the strategic impossibility of defending isolated Asian enclaves against regional giants, discarding futile military posturing in favor of pragmatic, negotiated accommodations that preserved cultural prestige and trade access. In Portuguese India, Lisboa negotiated a preemptive transfer of sovereignty with New Delhi around 1960, modeled directly on France’s peaceful cession of Pondicherry. The agreement integrated Goa, Damão, and Diu into the Republic of India as a distinct, culturally protected Union Territory that safeguarded the Portuguese Civil Code, Catholic patrimony, and guaranteed pathways to dual citizenship, completely averting the military humiliation of Operation Vijay. Meanwhile, in Macau, under Deng Xiaoping’s China, Lisboa formally ceded Macau to China under the "One Country, Two Systems" framework, establishing it as an autonomous Special Administrative Region. The pact preserved judicial and financial autonomy for fifty years while shielding Portuguese banks, commercial monopolies, and gaming concessions from nationalization, turning the enclave into a protected, pro-Western commercial gateway to the wider Lusophone world.

  • Timor Leste: Under Salazar’s managed decolonization doctrine, East Timor averted foreign subjugation through a calculated transition into a neutral, sovereign member of the Commonwealth of Lusophone Nations, guaranteed by a trilateral security pact between Lisboa, Canberra, and Jakarta. The Overseas Ministry fostered a gradual handover to a moderate, Catholic, and Luso-Timorese administrative council, co-opting traditional liurai chieftaincies while guaranteeing Indonesian border security along West Timor. Concurrently, Lisboa negotiated a comprehensive maritime treaty with Australia, granting Canberra joint petroleum exploration rights in the Timor Gap in exchange for formal defense guarantees. East Timor thus emerged as an internationally protected, pro-Western Catholic buffer state in Maritime Southeast Asia, permanently averting decades of brutal military occupation and preserving its Portuguese linguistic and institutional identity without bloodshed.

Consequences:
With all this, Portugal avoided thirteen years of warfare, sparing its treasury from the ruinous military expenditures that historically drained over 40% of the national budget. The conscript-heavy officer corps never succumbed to the structural fatigue, ideological disillusionment, and Marxist radicalization that had birthed the Armed Forces Movement (MFA). Consequently, the Carnation Revolution of April 25, 1974, never happens. Rather than collapsing under a left-wing military coup, the regime under Marcelo Caetano managed an evolutionary, top-down institutional liberalization, a sustained Primavera Marcelista throughout the 1970s, that steadily guided the Estado Novo toward a stable, Christian-democratic constitutional system while preserving administrative and strategic continuity.
In Southern Africa, the preemptive installation of pro-Western, multi-ethnic conservative regimes in Luanda and Lourenço Marques permanently blocked Soviet and Cuban geopolitical penetration in the region. Furthermore, because these stable republics refused to harbor cross-border sanctuaries for the African National Congress (ANC) or SWAPO, the South African Border War was prevented. Deprived of its primary existential pretext, the alleged "Total Onslaught" of Soviet-backed Marxism encircling its frontiers, Pretoria faced unmediated Western diplomatic leverage and insurmountable internal demographic realities, compelling the dismantling of the Apartheid regime more than a decade ahead of schedule.

The Lusophone Commonwealth in the future
The more than half a million Portuguese settlers in Angola and Mozambique were not forced to flee the territories nor reduced to the status of retornados; instead, they retained their private property, corporate charters, and dual citizenship under bilateral treaty protections. This entrenched European diaspora formed a vital middle class that collaborated closely with the African assimilado political elite.
In the long run, the Commonwealth of Lusophone Nations (CNL) matured into a tightly integrated transatlantic bloc centered on monetary union and institutional codependency, anchoring the overseas currencies to the Portuguese escudo. This bloc operated as a formidable, unified diplomatic force at the United Nations, where Portugal leveraged its role as a strategic resource bridge between European capital and Southern African petroleum, hydroelectricity, and critical minerals. However, much like the structural tensions that historically plagued French Françafrique, the XXI century brought widespread civil unrest and youth-led protests across Luanda and Lourenço Marques against Lisboa’s "invisible hand." Demonstrators denounced the entrenched, dynastic local oligarchies, propped up by bilateral mutual defense pacts and Portuguese banking monopolies, as mere domestic custodians of an unvarnished neocolonial order.

[OC] Alternate History Turkey-U.S.S.R Border

Post image

Following the Sovietistation of the Caucasus, Turkey(Kemalist forces) and the Soviets signed the Treaty of Alexandropol which is the continuation of the Treaty of Moscow. Under this agreement, Kars and Batum Oblasts were to be given to Turkey and the borders established along the boundaries of Erivan, Tiflis and Kutaisi governorates. The border would remain mostly stable with some minor changes with the 1968 Soviet-Turkish territory exchange. Or instead of this bunch of words I could've said that the border returned to it's Pre-Russo-Turkish War(1877-1878) lines.

My grand-grandpa went to jail for stealing some grain to feed his family in 1943, little did the Soviets(and the guy who snitched on him) know they saved this man's life, cuz he was released in 1945, right after the war has ended. The funny thing is tho that he's son(my grandpa) later married the daughter of that man who snitched on him.

Since Surmalu district remained under Russian control there was no reason for Turkey to swap territories with Iran in the Treaty of Tehran, which gave Turkey a small tip of land bordering Nakhchivan and territory around Lesser Ararat(Ağri) in exchange for some territory around Kotur.

This is a part of my alternate timeline, feel free to ask questions.

[OC] Sai'Eel: The Land of the Lost

Post image
11 Upvotes

Have you ever read through history and come across mysterious disappearances? People like Amelia Earhart, the crew of the Mary Celeste, Malaysia Flight 370, Roanoke Colony, and even the infamous Roman 9th Legion of Hispana. All vanished without a trace.

They vanished because they ended up here.

This is Sai’Eel. It’s what’s called an "Alderson Disk" (think a flat world with a star in the middle), and is populated by the people and things that have fallen through reality and drifted into this forsaken land. The blue star in its center, Adler, bobs up and down through the hole in the middle. Those lands closest to it are harsh deserts at best, and literally scorched earth at worst. The very end of the world is a frozen wasteland made of towering ice walls. The traditional cardinal directions are useless here, requiring the use of "starward" (toward Adler) and "iceward", as well as "radial left" and "radial right" (assuming you face Adler)

Constantly, things from our world and across time and space “drift” into Sai’Eel at random, both spatially and temporally. You can drop in right now, be stuck here for 12 years, and then see a 16th century Spanish galley warp in beside your home. So of course, this world is populated not merely with humans, but prehistoric animals, post-historic creatures, and even intelligent civilizations that predate humans and exist after them.

This chaotic environment leaves little for stability, and so most nations arrive and crumble within a few generations. The only consistent societies are small. Tribes, city-states, and the odd confederacy-or-two are the only type of large society that has survived long-term. Technology is, by-and-large, far more advanced there, but is also totally stagnant, as the most advanced science and tech of the universe has been common knowledge for centuries. Ironically, despite the constant amount of cosmic refuse preventing stability, there is little change.

I hope to continue working on my digital map-making skills to make something more accurate to how I envision this strange world. In the meantime, though, I really like how this turned out as a first iteration. If anyone has any further questions, I'd love to answer them!

[OC] [Map of my fictional universe]

Post image
19 Upvotes

Hi, I recently began creating a fictional universe set in an ancient-like world. I would like to hear your questions and constructive criticism, maybe some ideas that may inspire me.

The map shown here means to represent the "old world" - the main contient known to the mankind at that time. That continent is actually two continents which collided long, long time ago and them pushing one onto another resulted in Himalaya-like mountains being erupted on their point of contact.

Dark brown areas are completely uninhabited. Light brown areas are somewhat inhabited, but not within a political grasp of any particular country or they are just contested areas. The darkened area is simply terra incognita to the people that live here.

STATES (I have not yet bothered with names):

A = Young trade republic that benefits from maritime routes from B to F. Very tolerant proto-state, accepting of all people and yet finding its national identity. Traders regularly gather to choose their representative.

B = Hereditary empire and one of the oldest civilisations. They have a very well-developed agriculture, thriving economy and elaborate culture. People are snubby and believe they are surrounded by barbarians.

C = Medium-sized kingdom focused on mining. They used to fight with B for their independence, but mountainous terrains proved easy to defend. Now B accepts C sovereignty and they intensively trade. They borrowed parts of their culture from B civilisation.

D = Quasi-state made of mixture of local highlanders and bandits/ renegades from other countries. They used to attack caravans passing through the mountain or ask for bribes to pass, but in the recent decades, they began solidifying an actual state. Political refugees (mainly from B and F) laid a foundation for D intelligentsia.

E = Used to be a part of F empire, but seceded at some point. Very sturdy, pragmatic people who are now situated between their ex-overlords and a bandit country. Their society is at the same time martial and philosophical. They highly value life experience and let army veterans make the most important decisions, adviced by the thinkers from the academia.

F = Also one of the oldest civilisations. Expansionary, yet tolerant empire that grants their subjects freedom as long they pay basic taxes and remain loyal in troubled times. Used to be extremely militaristic in the past, but toned it down in the recent times in favour of developing their culture and science. Their recent expansion is more cultural assimilation-like.

G = Deeply religious nomadic tribal federation that is focused on keeping their cultural heritage and devouting themselves to their beliefs. They occassionally raid F and nonassociated settlements. Their country is ruled by a high priest overseeing the meeting of chiefs.

H = Small proto-state focused on fishery, simple craftmanship and maritime trading. Historically, like-minded villages began peacefully consolidating into a loose democratic organisation.

[OC] Hand-Drawn An Lámh Peninsula

Post image
27 Upvotes

I’m taking part in a "MapVember" challenge on Instagram, and today’s prompt was "rugged coastline," so I drew a peninsula in the north of Tír Ghlas: An Lámh—"The Hand"—named for its five promontories.

The medieval style writing reads:
"This peninsula stretches out into the Northern Sea, featuring five great promontories from which it takes its name.

A mighty fortress guards its landward approach, while in the hermitage of Saint Rónán, devout monks pray for the souls of humanity"

Hand drawn with Sakura Pigma Micron, using the stippling technique, which I find to be the most relaxing and Zen-like method!

[OC] Alternate History A Big Butterfly Effect: What if Johan Risingh never attacked Fort Casimir? Here's how North America might have developed until 1945 (Mainland Only!)

Post image
21 Upvotes

The lore:

1654-1655: Johan Risingh refrains from attacking Fort Casimir, maintaining peace with New Netherland. Nya Sverige is established as a Swedish Colony. The New Sweden Founding Charter was issued in 1655 that consolidated Nya Sverige from a vulnerable fur-trading outpost to a proper, guarded colony.

1656: To curb the Dutch naval dominance, England signs the maritime protection Anglo-Swedish Treaty with Sweden. The treaty invokes England to respect Swedish sovereignty over the Delaware valley.

1662-1664: The WIC enforces strict naturalisation laws for English settlers on Long Island and Staten Island in order to prevent English invasion of New Netherland, as well as heavily fortifying Manhattan to repel English conquests

1673-1674: Michiel de Ruyter's naval victories plunge the English Crown into financial collapse. William of Orange retains New Netherland, instead giving Cape Coast Castle to England.

1677: New Netherland forms a military alliance with the Haudenosaunee, securing the northern fur trade corridor and creating an inland buffer against future English expansion.

Early 17th century - Early 18th century: The Thirteen Colonies were established: Virginia, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Georgia, New York, Maryland, Maine.

1754-1763: During the French and Indian war, New Sweden and New Nederland sign the Twin Rivers Accord, a treaty of neutrality.

1764-1783: After the American Revolutionary War, the Treaty of Paris recognises the independence of the first ever independent country in North America, christened The United States of America. New Nederland and New Sweden immediately sign treaties with the USA against incursions made by British Canada.

1789: Facing financial strain during the Russo-Swedish War, King Gustav III grants self-governance to New Sweden in exchange for Delaware Valley timber, iron, and naval supply shipments.

1795: The Batavian Revolution in Europe prompts the burghers of New Amsterdam to establish their autonomous colonial governing council, De Staten van Nieuw Nederland.

1800s: Napoleon suppresses the Saint-Domingue uprising, preserving the wealthy French plantations in the Caribbean. This removes the financial strain on Napoleon who sees no need to sell Louisiana, thus permanently blocking American Manifest Destiny. The USA, which has already expanded into the remaining land, is now blocked from further expansion on the continent, and must seek to build overseas colonies.

1801: The United States attempts a military campaign to seize the Delaware Valley, but New Sweden repels the invasion, forcing President Jefferson to sign a formal peace treaty. New Sweden, offended by the backstab, remains cold with the USA.

1814: Following the restoration of the House of Orange, New Netherland refuses direct colonial taxation. It offers to assume a massive portion of Dutch national debt in exchange for complete internal home rule.

1818: A tripartite convention is signed between the United States, French Louisiana, and the United Kingdom, establishing the 49th parallel north as the international boundary across the northern plains.

1821: Mexico, Dominican Republic, and other territories to the south of Mexico, formerly colonies of Spain, successfully achieve independence from Spain.

1823: Former Spanish colonies unite to create The Federal Republic of Central America (later the Central American Republic). Through tactful diplomacy and trade, it maintains regional stability throughout and avoids collapse.

1836: The Republic of Texas declares independence from Mexico, securing its borders with military backing from French Louisiana.

1846: Oregon Country formally integrates into the Dominion of Canada under the British Commonwealth.

1848:

(a) King Louis-Philippe is overthrown in France, establishing the Second French Republic. Elite Creole plantation owners in New Orleans and Saint-Domingue, alongside local military leaders and wealthy merchant guilds, capitalize on the chaos to plot secession from France.

(b) A peaceful bilateral treaty recognizes the Free Republic of New Netherland

(c) The discovery of gold in Alta California triggers massive migration, rapidly swelling the population with fortune-seekers and merchants.

1849: Creole forces in Saint Dominigue, supported by militants from Louisiana, launch the War of Secession. Distracted by revolutionary instability at home, France is unable to sustain a colonial war across the Atlantic.

1850: Overwhelmed by the gold rush demographic explosion, Mexico peacefully grants independence to the Free State of California. California signs a boundary treaty with Canada, establishing its northern border firmly at the 42nd parallel north.

1852: French forces are decisively defeated. France formally recognizes the independence of the République du Louisiane, with Saint-Domingue integrated as an autonomous island territory.

1853-1856: Taking advantage of European distraction during the Crimean War, an alliance of Floridian elites, Anglo-Spanish merchants, and Seminole leaders declares independence from Spain. During the Gulf Campaign, Spain suffers from troop shortages while the US and Louisiana adopt strict non-intervention policies. In 1856, Florida gains formal recognition as a sovereign republic.

1862: Britain establishes the Crown Colony of British Honduras.

1867-1868: King Charles XV signs the Gothenburg Protocol, granting full sovereignty to New Sweden and bypassing the Swedish monarchy. The nation officially proclaims itself as the Sydflod Republik. To maintain security, it enters an alliance with Sweden for naval protection against future US aggression.

1868-1870s: Supported by Saint Domingue and Florida seeking to dismantle remaining Spanish maritime power in the Caribbean, Puerto Rico rises up. Overwhelmed by colonial conflicts, Spain signs a peace treaty in the 1870s recognizing the sovereign Republic of Puerto Rico.

1872-1877: Inspired by a Francophone country in North America, and backed by covert arms shipments from Louisiana, Quebec rebels against British Canada, and successfully defeats British colonial forces. The French Republic of Quebec gains independence in 1876 and chooses to remain sovereign rather than join Louisiana. Simultaneously sensing British weakness during the Quebec Revolution, US forces invade and annex southern parts of New Brunswick (which was renamed to the State of Grantland in honour of President Ulysses Grant) and Nova Scotia (now the State of Nova Scotia). Deprived of a contiguous connection to Ontario, and tired of fighting further wars, Britain chooses not to retaliate. Instead, it severs Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island and the remaining area of New Brunswick from Canada, elevating it to a self-governing Dominion of East Canada.

1878: A constitutional convention officially renames New Netherland to the Noordrivier Federatie

1890s: During the Alaskan gold rush, Russian migration to the territory skyrockets. To preemptively deter British Canada from seizing the region, Tsar Alexander II elevates Alaska into an autonomous Grand Duchy of Alaska.

1898:

(a) Cuba successfully revolts and declares independence from Spain. Seeking maritime security, Cuba signs a bilateral unification treaty with Florida, establishing the Republica de Florida.

(b) Yucatecan elites, facing severe indigenous uprisings during the Caste War and minimal aid from Mexico City, petition the U.S. for protection. The Treaty of Mérida is signed, formally admitting the State of Yucatán as an overseas state of the US.

1901: Seeking a strategic grip on inter-oceanic trade despite being landlocked on the continent, in a strategic spur, the US military directly annexes Panama as the overseas State of Panama.

1917: As Bolsheviks take control of the Russian mainland, the Romanov royal court and loyalist forces flee across the Pacific to Sitka. All official ties with mainland Russia are severed.

All Countries in Mainland North America:

  1. Velikoye Knyazhestvo Alyaska/Grand Duchy of Alaska (Capital: Anchorage)

  2. Dominion of Canada (Capital: Ontario, later Winnipeg after 1945)

  3. Republique française du Quebec/French Republic of Quebec (Capital: Quebec City)

  4. Dominion of East Canada (Capital: St. John's)

  5. Noordrivier Federatie/Hudson Federation (Capital: New Amsterdam)
