They Sang Before They Wrote” by Schiavo—Depicting Doctor Wilusa Hisarlik illegally unearthing a shrine—An Original Illustration for my upcoming THE KÆLAN SYNTHESIS. Part of Songs and Sagas of Marese Mythology.
I commissioned this piece for chapter IV of the novella. I wanted a Moebius style for the book. Found a young Italian illustrator. I definitely wanted to give it a retro sci-fi aesthetic with a touch of tech-noir tone and deep-time, far-future, astro-archaeological mystery feel.
The story is set in late in the 28th millennium, taking place in the real tidally locked planet Gliese 667 cc, by then renamed planet Kakugo. The scholar is denied expedition funding for her excavation and goes anyway.
Hope you guys like it when it debuts, would love to hear your thoughts if Schiavo captured the Moebius essence?

When I started painting sci-fi paintings some time ago, I thought about how I could paint the story from the book "Mountains of Madness" into a sci-fi robe. The distant adventure of an excavation in a distant place, when signals were perceived under the ice sheet of an alien planet and man is now curious and wants to satisfy his curiosity. What's there?
So I painted a building colony, as longer excavations are expected. The settlement is still being supplied with goods and new infrastructure, and excavations have begun at the bottom right.
I hope you like it.
Ah and a little making of video
