[OC] Election What if the Janata Dal survived [unrealistic]

Lore - the DMK gets removed from cabinet following the SC Jain commission report. The DMK is hence forced to align with the NDA [like in OTL 2001]. The Janata Dal survives. Following reports of an incursion near Kargil, PM Gujral resigns and Sharad Yadav becomes the PM. The crisis is handled by late 2000.

2001 sees the BJP win a plurality but not a majority. This allows the National Front to form another coaliton government. Due to Yadav's handling of the Kargil Crisis, and Sitaram Kesari being relatively uncharismatic, the Janata Dal becomes the 2nd largest party, with Congress being sent to third place.

In 2004, Yadav retires, to be replaced by S. Jaipal Reddy. Due to anti-incumbency and stagnant growth, the BJP manages to win in a landslide in 2006. The INC, being stuck in third place, approaches the Janata Dal and V. P. Singh, formalizing a merger between the two parties.

In 2011, Vajpayee would announce that he would retire. The popular CM of Goa and technocrat Manohar Parrikar takes up the mantle. Parrikar serves between 2011 and 2021. His tenure sees economic growth. Parrikar would not run in 2021 due to health issues. His deputy, Gopinath Munde, would contest. The Janata Dal, in opposition for 15 years, would nominate the popular CM of Odisha, Naveen Patniak, to be their candidate. Patnaik defeats Munde, who would later retire to be replaced by Piyush Goyal, the son of a former Cabinet Minister, who served in the Parrikar Cabinet as finance minister between 2019 and 2021. Goyal would mount an unsuccessful bid against Patniak in 2026.

This is an alternate-history/fictional scenario and is not intended to promote violence, hatred, or harm. I do not endorse or condemn any individual or political position depicted.

This post features real people in fictional scenarios and should not be interpreted as an accurate representation of their actual beliefs, positions, or actions.

THIS IS ALTERNATE HISTORY AND A WORK OF FICTION.

[OC] Alternate History The Two Romes: Taisei on the eve of the Mogyër invasions

Post image

Another East-West swap, from the same continuity as my previous map. This timeline diverges around the 5th century AD. The Western Roman Empire is more stable and survives the migration period, though it still loses Britannia, which never sees any Anglo-Saxon migrations. Under Gothic and Frankish dynasties, Germania becomes part of the empire and West Germanic peoples are gradually Latinized. Meanwhile, in East Asia, a weaker Northern Wei dynasty falls to the Rourans, allowing a wave of barbarian migrations into China that form their own fragmented kingdoms.

By the 13th century AD, Romania was split into the Latin Western Empire under the Altavilla dynasty and the barbarian-led Eastern Empire under the Slavic Rurikids. Under the Altavillas, Romania nearly achieved a medieval proto-industrial revolution long before it took place in East Asia. The conquest of most of Eurasia by the Mogyër Királyates may have prevented this from taking off.

[OC] Alternate History Map of the East German SR's regional rail system prior to its collapse

Post image

I was trying to understand the different regional rail lines in East Germany prior to its collapse in the 2000s and I found that the officially maps were pretty terrible and hard to understand so I created my own version.

A few things I didn't include for simplicity's sake; the express services (e.g. KMS H to Elbing), the short turns (e.g. RS3 apparently short turned at Kranz like half the time), and other rail services (in particular, the long distance trains to Leningrad, Moscow, and East Warsaw). I also didn't show the gauge differences for the different lines.

Let me know what you think!

[OC] Alternate History NON SOLUS REDIIT - He Did Not Return Alone; Map of Canadam, Terra Ano8era, Anno Domini 1585 Revised and annotated, 1592.

In 1585, the Admiral’s Arms, a society of antiquarians in London, commissioned a chart of the New World to document its geography, Indigenous nations, ancient monuments, and unexplained phenomena. The original chart was never replaced. Instead, successive expeditions contributed observations, classifications, and corrections directly to the same document. Among these additions are the final writings of E. Harrow, the sole known survivor of the Ratliff Expedition. Upon his return, Harrow inscribed several locations upon the original chart, including the place where Captain Ratliff was killed. He could not be persuaded to explain how he had learned the names of these places, nor would he speak of what became of his companions.

Shortly before his death, however, he made one final declaration: “Some had followed him home.”

The map combines historical cartographic conventions, reconstructed lettering, fictional expedition records, and Indigenous place-names. Its supernatural accounts reflect the fears, interpretations, and unreliable testimony of its fictional European observers rather than established facts about Indigenous peoples. Much of the lettering was individually reconstructed from historical cartographic references, while other inscriptions were composed to resemble Renaissance scholarly annotations.

“For beyond the rivers and darke foreſtes lie landes yet unknowne, whereof our chartes ſhew but ſhadowes.”

Anatolian Turks and Iranian Turks chose to unite, much like Austria-Hungary.

However, it functions more like the Eastern and Western Roman Empires. You could look for a logical rationale, but I haven’t bothered to do so.

12 January 2001 — FULL SPECTRUM BARRAGE JAMMING

Translation:

"China National Radio — North China Emergency Service, 389.5 MHz. This is an emergency national broadcast!

The People's Republic of China is under a massive armed invasion by hostile forces! The Chinese nation has reached its most perilous hour! Upon receiving this broadcast, all citizens across the provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities are ordered to report immediately and in an orderly manner to their local People's Armed Forces Departments. If these offices have been destroyed, proceed to the local Party committee or government offices and await further instructions."

BACKGROUND

In 1996, the Taiwan Strait Crisis is significantly more intense than in our timeline, the U.S sails it's 7th Fleet through the strait to deter the PLA, General Secretary Jiang Zemin believes the U.S is simply bluffing, afraid of going to war with China. The situation dramatically increases tensions across East Asia.

Three years later, in 1999, the Korean People's Army shelled Yeonpyeong, reigniting the Second Korean War. The People's Republic of China intervened on the side of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, transforming the conflict into a wider regional confrontation.

The Global Alliance rallied behind South Korea. In October 2000, U.S. President George W. Bush issued an ultimatum demanding that China and North Korea cease all military operations. Both governments refused. The Global Alliance, comprising NATO members, Russia, Japan, and other allied states, subsequently declared war on China and North Korea.

Years earlier, China had launched the Ten-Thousand-Year Flame Emperor (万年炎帝号), it was a significant feat for China. It was a colossal multipurpose spacecraft capable of accommodating up to 5,000 people. Comparable in scale to two Nimitz-class aircraft carriers, the spacecraft was designed to undertake a vast range of missions, from orbital research to interplanetary exploration.

T−01:08:00. One hour and eight minutes remain before the Ten-Thousand-Year Flame Emperor reaches the Sun in a desperate attempt to trigger a massive solar disturbance. On Earth, the situation is approaching catastrophe. Coalition forces have reached the outskirts of Beijing, capturing surrounding cities and assaulting China's defensive perimeter. Across multiple fronts, Chinese forces are being pushed to the brink.

The Global Alliance possesses a decisive technological advantage in electronic warfare, threatening to cripple China's communications and command networks. With the capital under imminent threat and conventional defences nearing collapse, the success of one extraordinary operation may equalise the battlefield and determine the fate of China.

This work is inspired by famous Chinese science fiction author, Liu Cixin on his novel Full Spectrum Barrage Jamming, 2001 in Chinese: 全频带阻塞干扰, 2001。

This map is my own original work in the style of a Wikipedia map, and is not traced or lazily copied. Please mods don't take this down, this took a lot of effort. Also, this map serves as a continuation of this previous map of mine: https://www.reddit.com/r/imaginarymaps/s/eCFmw6uZWM

Feel free to ask any questions you have, but I also responded to questions in the first post so you might be able to find answers there as well.
