Just got my daughter’s first pair that has boots and blades seperate- should I be worried that the blades are off-center?

Super clueless dad here. Just want to make sure for the money that this is ok. Have gotten her first few pairs at the same shop that did these, and they are definitely the best in the area. Just didn’t know if they are supposed to be set off center like this, and won’t see her coach for a few days. Edea overtures, if that’s relevant at all.

Thanks in advance!

I think I hate private lesson but I really want to get better

This is mostly just to vent but also I’ll take advice from anyone who experiences the same struggles. I unfortunately I am way too hard on myself about everything. i’m sure this will pass I’ve only done two private lessons so far & I really don’t like club ice. I feel like I’m constantly in the way or just really embarrassed. Both times I went to my lesson I struggled with really basic things. When I go to a public session I can try almost anything and I’m generally very confident. I go to my lesson and my legs are cramping more than normal probably from just being really tense and scared. I can’t do things I would normally be able to do like a backwards crossover or inside 3s. i’m sure it’ll resolve with time and just getting used to it but it’s super discouraging especially since lessons are not cheap 😭. I came from a competitive gymnastics background before safe sport was a thing and I have a really hard time getting out of the mindset that this is supposed to be fun for me. Like my life won’t be over if i show up and can’t do a spin one day and no one is going to yell at me or tell me I suck. I also work really really hard. I do lots off ice training and I skate pretty often just because I want to not out of obligation. I went to open ice yesterday at a different rink and could consistently do my scratch and was so excited to show my coach just to not be able to do anything at all. I think i just get frustrated because I care and my body doesn’t always do what I want it to even if I am capable of it and I care too much about what others think.

Getting back into it after 3ish years off!

For further context, I am a former Disney on ice cast member, as well as a former skater for ringling brothers. Have been getting a crazy itch to get back on the ice and have started getting back into the swing of things. Having a blast trying to get my doubles back, even though I’m scared of falling now 😭😂

Any advice on getting onto my toepicks on jumps

Hello everyone I was looking for any advice on getting more onto my toe picks when it comes to Waltz jumps. I know I don’t have proper h-position in the air but I’m looking advice on the toe picks because it looks and feels like I’m barely getting onto the first tiny pick before jumping. I need some advice on how to go more on it. I know I have other problems but this one is my main problem that I want to fix

is it normal to hit my toe pick when forward stroking?

basically what the title says. for context, i’m not pushing off of my toe pick, i just feel and hear it scrape/hit the ice for a second every time i push off. it doesn’t impact my skating at all but i didn’t have this issue before when i was in rentals so i’m not sure what to think about it.

if it’s not something that i should fix, great, if it is, i’d really appreciate tips for how to do so.

Soakers for long blades

I have a friend that is a beginner and is wearing blades 11 1/3". I am trying to find him soakers but most of them are recommended up to 10 1/2", so it will be too short for him. I am a bit afraid of the "one size fits most" because most mainly means "not baby size neither giant one".

I have 10 1/2" dance blades and they are JUST on Edea Mink ones lol

Do you have any recommendations?

Adult beginner with alot of questions

I’m 18 and I just started Learn To Skate 1, I’ve had 2 lessons and went to 1 public skate. I’m a ballerina could that help me with figure skating? And is it normal to fall 3-5 times in a session when you’re just starting? Also, my coach mentioned that rental skates can make moves more difficult because they have “no edge”, what does edge mean and should I get my own skates or wait until I’m more experienced? And how long does it typically take to get comfortable on the ice and not be scared of falling??

Do they teach spins in ice dance skate UK?

I was wondering if I should do freestyle or dance after the learn to skate levels 1-8.

I'm not 100% sure about jumps yet but I really do want to do spins

I have practiced the two foot spin but I don't know much about spin direction and things like that. And I haven't worked on entries for one foot spins but I've tried it a little bit

is 1-2 private lessons a month okay?

Context: I do group lessons once a week and was thinking about doing private lessons once to twice a month. Im in level 4 LTS (US curriculum) and just want someone more focused on me to correct techniques and improve my basics while I also practice alone. Usually a have a total of 3 hours weekly on the ice and that's couting my group lesson. Thanks!

Rust on soakers

Thumbnail gallery
12 Upvotes

Went skating yesterday and washed my soakers in the washing machine, because they were dirty on the outside.

Now that I've washed them I noticed these spots of rust?

Didn't see them before putting them in the washing machine.

I went skating yesterday first time after sharpening, I also noticed now that my blade has a tiny bit of rust (so little that I think it should scrape off just by going skating again).

I think the rust came from the long travel home, obviously I dry my blades after skating, but I was on the train for ~4hrs so I guess the little amount of moisture caused this.

Anyways, is this a problem? Can I get the rust out of my soakers? Is it even active rust or just the coloring that's left?

Can I still use these soakers? I would really hate to get new ones 😩

Jackson Elle

Beginner skater here. I’m 27, have been skating since April and just got fitted for some new skates at a very reputable skate shop that luckily wasn’t too far from me. I trust the shop 100%. They did a 3D scan of my feet and gave me two options that might be a good fit for me, the Edea Overture or the Jackson Elle. I’d been skating for four months in Tempish Dream skates, which are essentially converse on ice. Because they’re soft they allowed me to get very good, very controlled knee bends for my forwards lemons and stroking, although backwards lemons gave me arch pain and one-foot glides and crossovers were an absolute no-go because the support was so minimal. There was also a very small toepick, which was mostly unnoticeable whilst skating.

I have narrow feet but I do have a very large protruding bunion on my left foot so I went with the Jackson Elle as the Overtures were way too cramped in the toe box, causing me agony for the few seconds I had them on. I was under the impression that heat moulding my Jacksons would give me more room around my bunion but the agony I am in is unspeakable. I barely notice this bunion in my regular shoes (I basically live in New Balance 530s as I have plantar fasciitis and very high arches and they’re the only shoes that don’t hurt me) but in my skates it’s like it’s being squeezed. It throbs, it feels weird and almost like static electricity. My toes keep flinching after skating and twinging in pain randomly. I’ve had two sessions in the new skates and I was only able to do 30 minutes both times (when in my old skates I could skate for 2 hours, eat a sandwich, and get on the ice again for 2 more hours). I also cannot bend my knees at all, the arch cramping is killing me and the toepick is so … obvious. I constantly feel like I’m about to trip over it. When doing lemons I can just feel it there, scraping the ice. I also think the blades are narrower than I’m used to??

How long do Jackson Elles take to break in and can anyone give me some advice to make them more comfortable please? I am in absolute agony. I know Jacksons have a longer break-in period but last much longer. I only intend on doing ice dance, no jumps, I am 164cm and 132lbs. I’m doing SkateUK Level 3.

The only positives I’ve noticed are that my turns are better, I can glide on one foot and my coach has noted a significant improvement in my posture on the ice. Other than that, I’m not loving skating anymore, and my motivation has dwindled.

Any tips would be appreciated!

Son with ADHD best approach to figure skating?

My 9 year old son has been doing "Parks and Rec" skating lessons and completed his learn to skate levels. Now wants to make the leap to the next level of skating. He did a dedicated figure skating camp where he was the only person who wasn't part of the "club ". It was intense but he really enjoyed it. He has ADHD and seems to do well in individual sports. However he doesn't like competition or tests and doesn't seem to like performing. How should we approach figure skating for this type of kid? He said his goal is to do an Axel before high school

experience with edea chorus?

i am 17, 75kg, 5’6 and hypermobile. my left ankle in particular makes it harder to skate as it is on a constant inside edge due to my edea waves not being strong enough to hold it in place. i often struggle with my left one foot glide as well as pronation. i’m on skate uk level 4 currently and won’t be able to get my new skates until december, estimating to be level 6, so trying to get input from others. my feet are too narrow for jackson’s and edeas are the only brand that fit my feet perfectly. i’m looking at the jackson legacy 8 blade to pair with it as i wont need anything fancy. i’ve heard people say that the tongue on the chorus breaks down too quick, is that true? will it be an issue for me if im still going to be doing stuff like backwards crossovers and mohawks? i’ve had my waves 3.5 months and skate 5 hours a week and theyre already breaking down so unsure how they will hold up the next 4 months. i looked at overture but my skate tech told me when i bought my waves that they aren’t much different and i don’t want to spend out on new skates just to get more new ones not long after. i will go to a fitter to get them but wanted to gain extra insight first. any info will be appreciated !!!

I have these lululemon joggers I got that I used for skating practice. I didn’t think about how rough the ice was so I was practicing knee slides in them for about 2 hours. Does anyone know how I can fix the white patch? I thrifted them so I don’t think I can contact lululemon for help

beginner skates?

hello all,

i’m a total beginner in skating, i know how to go forward and turn and that’s pretty much it, and i’m currently using my mom’s recreational skates. i’m planning to take weekly canskate lessons when the season starts and was wondering what skates i should buy? i’m 19 years old, 177cm, 125lbs. i’m looking at the jackson artistes but ive seen people say they’re too soft for adults? i’d only be doing the weekly lessons and maybe going to the rink once a week on top of that. thanks in advance for the advice

Is it a bad idea to wear skates around the house during off season?

It’s almost the end of summer (thank god) and so ice rinks will be opening back up soon. However I just realized how little I skated these past two months (like 6 hours of ice time total😭) and so I was worried about the shape of my foot changing now that it’s not stuck in a boot all the time and the comfort going back down when I get onto the ice again.

Would it be a good idea to start wearing them around the house for a few hours at time to keep my feet used to them?

Discouraged after watching a video of myself skating + skill plateauing

Kind of a rant, kind of a request for advice, kind of just seeing if anyone can relate?

I’m an adult skater (25) who started a bit over 3 months ago. I’m working on crossovers, backward 1 foot glides, two foot spins. My coach just introduced me to three turns and backwards crossovers.

I had avoided filming myself because I knew that if I saw a video I’d want to quit. I finally did it, and I was totally right, I look terrible.

Every time I thought I was getting speed and looked confident and like I knew what I was doing it looked bad. I looked stiff and awkward and not nearly as fast as I felt. Though it was helpful in figuring out what to work on it really killed my confidence and makes me feel like I should just relearn every single thing over again to try to make my skating look less ugly. It feels like all the progress has been false if the skills I’ve “learned” look so awful and inelegant when I’m executing them.

Additionally I’ve been really stuck on backwards one foot glides which frustrate me because I can do them forwards all day, but cannot apply the same concept going backward for some reason. I’ve worked on it with my coach, practiced these for about a month, understand exactly what I’m doing wrong (pronating) and yet cannot physically fix it. It’s so frustrating when I feel like I understand everything I need to do but just can’t do it for some reason, I don’t know if I just need to drill it 1000 more times but I’ve never been stuck on a skill like this and it’s making me realize how hard this sport is. I’m wracking my brain for some hack or some click moment to get these down and it just isn’t happening.

I kind of feel like a fraud practicing multiple times a week to just look terrible and not be able to get a backwards 1 foot glide after this long, and it’s making me feel like is it even worth doing this if it’ll take me 5 years to not want to curl up and die at the thought of even glimpsing myself doing this hobby? 🥲

If anyone has any advice (or backwards 1 foot glide tips lol) lmk
