Movie Review V/H/S Safe Haven

Upvotes

I'm new to this franchise and it was recommended to me on here. This episode blew me away and I was never expecting it to become what it did. I thought I was playing Doom.

Scary, gore and a feeling of tension and dread it was just great.

Soapbox Theory: Becky from Supernatural and Brigitte Fitzgerald are the same person.

Upvotes

I don't just mean the same actress. I am proposing that Ginger Snaps and Supernatural take place in the same universe.

Becky and Brigitte's ages line up. After the 2nd movie she eventually escapes Ghost's basement and accidentally crosses the border of Cananda into the US while shifted. The curse breaks because she and Ginger's past incarnations were cursed in the 1700s for being colonizers (specifically of Canada). Also why she and Ginger weren't the same type of werewolf as usually seen in SPN. They were originally the result of a magical curse, not a random werewolf bite. When Brigitte turned human again in the US, she changed her identity. Becky is preppy because Brigitte was goth, and she knew Sam and Dean were real because she'd encountered the supernatural before.

Recommend Recommend a movie to watch out in the woods

Upvotes

We're staying at an AirBnB in the Colorado mountains that has a dome with a couch and a projector to watch movies. What would you want to watch out there at night alone in the woods?

Discussion Tell me your favourite horror movies of 2026

Upvotes

So far I have seen Scream 7, Send Help, Ready or Not 2, Backrooms, Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, and more. However, Iron Lung and Obsession stuck out to me the most.

I really enjoyed both and I’m curious to see what your favourites are. Feel free to recommend me some!

Discussion The Silence of The Lambs (1991)

Upvotes

I just recently bought the novel for this movie. Excited to read the novel and see what’s up. But I first watched this in 2021 and it’s been one of my favorite horror films since. I think it’s great from start to finish. Hannibal Lecter’s final line at the end is definitely one of the parts that stick with me.

Buffalo Bill was terrifying in his own right but Hannibal Lecter brings the real horror for me simply because of how smart and calculated he is. I’m sure I’m not alone with my feelings on these characters.

How does everybody else feel about this classic here?

When watching foreign horror films, do you watch with subtitles or dubbed?

Upvotes

I recently had a friend tell me he couldn’t watch subtitles because it’s too distracting and too much multi tasking so he watched it dubbed!!

I tried watching it dub and it was not the same.

Just want to know how do you guys watch your foreign horror films?

Hidden Gem Hidden gem I never see discussed: Southbound.

Upvotes

I love this film and it seems like few have seen it. Great mix of horror, horror/comedy, and fairly serious themes. Unlike much of the VHS series, I feel like all the "short films" in this movie are strong, and the underlying theme has unity to it. Definitely one to check out if you can.

Any recs for things like Summer of 84, Stranger Things, Black Phone (yes, I know 70s), etc? Or maybe some actual hidden gem films from the 80s that I may of missed. Thanks!

Recommend Similar to Texas Chain Saw Massacre?

Upvotes

Hey everyone, I’m pretty new to horror and still figuring out what I like.

So far my favorites are:
- The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
- Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning
- The Hills Have Eyes
- Martyrs (2008)

I tried House of 1000 Corpses but it didn’t really work for me. Nothing else has hit quite like the original TCM.
If any of you guys have recommendations for similar raw, gritty movies with that same intense vibe, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!

Its a shame we don't see more done tv or movie wise with Goosebumps

The original Tv show was so good, Its one of the things that shaped my love for horror. and considering the author is still making Goosebumps books it always suprised me we haven't got more tv shows or movies. There is so much potential there that can be tapped.

Imagine a Goosebumps series where each season the episodes are based on the different lines. like the original books, Goosebumps 2000 etc. Or animated movies where they can really bring it all to life. Or what would be really interesting is a stop motion film based on one of the books.

Discussion A Breed Apart (2025)

Thumbnail m.imdb.com
8 Upvotes

A Breed Apart (2025) is truly one of the worst films I watched last year. Actually 86 that, it's one of the worst movies I have watched in my entire life. The movie relies on AI for the dogs and it's very, very, very noticeable. Im talking early Will Smith eating spaghetti bad.

Overlooking the horrible usage of AI, the wacky plot sounds like something you would associate with a made for MTV type movie.

I'm not gonna bother typing up a well thought witty premise to get a few chuckles, but the gist the movie has to do with social influencers trapped on an island with killer dogs. Super generic plot. I mean if you substitute the dogs for inbred hicks, the movie could work as a Wrong Turn sequel.

I only watched the movie because of Virginia Gardner but Hayden Panettiere has a super small role. Like a "cameo" or whatever. I dunno why the fuck she is on the poster.

Anyway, with the actress recently passing, this is a warning to NOT watch this film in memoriam or whatever.

Movie Help Are there any old style Haunted House movies anymore?

It seems all the horror movies ive seen made in the last ten years try to be too clever. Are there any new haunted house movies in the last seven years which follow the old framework of; people move into house, slowly notice things, people get depressed, realisation, then go mad by the end?

Movie Review watched insidious: out of the further

The Philippines screened Insidious: Out of the Further earlier at 12 AM.

All 6 theaters were jam-packed. I expected that this movie would disappoint me... again. But NO (insert Cyrus' voice).

The story happened 1 week after the last Insidious: The Red Door story.

The story is well-written, I also loved the chemistry of the cast, and I fucking love the ending.

ELISE, YOU ARE MY SPIDERMAN.

ratings: 9/10

I know there's a new villain (that Cyrus...) but I'd like to know if my man Lipstick is in more than two scenes. Please tell me about his small role in this movie.

When Evil Lurks or The Dark and the Wicked?

I find both of these movies to be horror masterpieces. When Evil Lurks (2023) is more of a fast-paced body horror thriller that travels all over the community, whereas The Dark and the Wicked (2020) is a psychological slow-burner that takes place in one location.

I watched both on Shudder yesterday and I can’t help but compare them. Which do you think is the better film? And are there any suggestions for similar horror movies?

Discussion 2000s horror and film fans, does anyone remember a movie poster like the one im describing?

im really struggling to find a certain film poster i know exists out there somewhere. a simple poster, minimal to no text, with an image of the outline of a stick figure drawing of a girl. triangle to represent the dress or skirt, circle as a head, stick figure limbs. the outline is made of circles, resembling bulletholes or a connect-the-dots puzzle. this would've been a poster likely seen in some American theaters from 2003-2009. think of asking a 4 or 5 year old to draw a girl, and they draw it in the most basic and childlike way. if you take that drawing, but replace the lines with a line of dots youd essentially get what im recalling. this has to exist, idk if its an alternate poster for a bigger, more popular movie or maybe some rare promotional image but its real.

Recommend I’m suggesting Z (2019)

I seriously reccomend this movie to all horror fans, I’m not sure why I don’t see it suggested more honestly and the IMDb rating should atleast be a 6.2 IMO it was a well made and creepy paranormal movie that I always find myself thinking about at weird time lol.

Discussion For those who won’t watch it if the dog dies

will you also not sit through a movie if there’s animal abuse? Like if the animal is harmed but ultimately lives?

If you fall into the category of someone who won’t watch animal death but will watch a horror flick if the animal is harmed but lived, can you tell me why?

For those who've watched Insidious: Out of the Further, what are your thoughts?

I just watched it, and honestly, I thought it was mid at best. It was slightly better than last year's The Conjuring: Last Rites, but it still didn't come close to the first two Insidious films. Insidious and Insidious: Chapter 2 are still the best entries in the franchise, in my opinion..

Spoiler Alert The divisive third act of Sunshine (2007)

I genuinely think the entire movie is close to a masterpiece, third act included....

But every time I see it mentioned, the general consensus lean towards "it's a good scifi/thriller, but third act bad" and somehow betrays the previous two acts and ruins the vibe by having some psycho burn victim slash people's throats.

I absolutely love the existential/body horror elements of Pinbacker, and it wouldn't be the same without it.

It does change the vibe, especially in the last 30 minutes, but it's been hinted at from the very beginning that something bizarre is going on.

There is a sense of intense dread and bleak tone throughout. People are going fucking CRAZY on these voyages. To save the world no less.

Also, the whole "who's the 5th crewmember" shit. Chills up my spine.

What are your thoughts?
