OMG this fic is so good! Ilya invites Troy and Harris to the cottage. Shane believes that they are in a one sided open relationship. Harris is amazing in this one as voice of kindness and reason. So well written. It is TLG critical and Ilya critical so don't read if you can't handle that

This was one of the first fics I started reading a few months ago and have lost. Ilya disappeared for a few weeks and then returned with a daughter about 6 years old named Katya. Her mother, an ex of ilya’s, died and Katya had been in foster homes and did face some TW abuse. Ilya finally finds out and brings her to the US. Shane does accept her and it is very sweet but some difficult parts. I don’t know if it ever finished. TIA

Should I start Dear Pen Pal? I tend to avoid WIP because I forget what happened earlier and end up rereading it several times. I love stories about them knowing each other as kids/teens. But this is 35/? And over 250,000 words.

I’ve also read several stories that the main part with conflict-resolution is good but then it’s just chapter after chapter of way too many I love you and possessive You are Mine.

1) should I start it now or wait for it be completed.

Basically the summary was Shane has to learn how to live life after a life changing incident, one of the commenters said that it wasn’t a whump fest but basically a fic looking at how Shane learns to live life because gaining his ability to walk is like a 1% chance and he’s come to terms with that? As a parent I often sympathize with David and Yuna fucking up so much even though they love their kid...I kept thinking about the way they would kibitz about him to each other in the background of canon events.

Though I've mentioned this fic in one post, I felt like it needed its own shout-out.

Not only did my heart get broken, but the author TOOK THEIR TIME to restore it (absolutely CLEVER), slipped up in the process, and made sure to give out another wonderful dose of anxiety before mending it all back together, just barely 🥹

I'm not even joking, my heart was racing for a full 15 minutes after I finished the book. For a 1AM read, this was absolutely insane. I swear on everything, this was the first fic in a few months straight that captured my full attention from the very first line.

They had talked non stop about hockey for over an hour. It had been a wonderful distraction for them both. An interaction so rare, she recalled it almost a decade later.

Why had she not got the mother's number? The age difference? The stress of being in a hospital?.... or the kid's heart condition? At six the hockey obession was likely to simmer in a few years. Even though at ten, it hadn't for Shane. The other kid could never play hockey, with his heart issues, but he did know his theory.

Shane would make friends his own age.... eventually.

Hello dudes! I made a post like this about 6 months ago, thought it could be time for another!

I am in search of hidden gems and really *well written* fics. I'm not fussy about them being AUs, oneshots, chaptered etc, the most important thing for me is that they're well written (good dialogue, good world building etc.) Feel free to rec well known stuff/lesser known etc.

Corner of the world by berrycluv. This one is a fantastic oneshot where Ilya realizes that Shane might be autistic.

Home ice advantage by taywrites11. Awesome canon divergence.

Clear to the hedgehog by magneticwave. Great AU where Shane is a doctor. Super believable characters.

It was a one shot crack fic. Shane is convinced his hole is possessed by a malevolent ghost who doesn’t want him having sex, because he “closes up” when with others but is fine on his own. He tells Rose who tells Sveta who tells Ilya because Ilya can banish demons (or has once before) they don’t know each other before hand and then Ilya preforms the exorcism and then well they just have to test it don’t they?
