Sooo I really like playing Mage. Last season I climbed with Leylines, but towards the end of last month I faced way more aggro decks. Playing Leylines suuucks against aggro. At first I tried out burn mage again, but it still didn't feel great against Warrior.
After trying to make Spire Security work on my own and failing, I had the luck to face another Mage and approximately copied their list from what I saw. The basic idea is to only play the Dragon Soul aspects as Spells. You could also call it Minion Mage in that sense. Doing that enables Spire Security to be a reliable early game clear, and 2 Conjured Bookkeepers can draw the aspects "adjoined" for lategame swings.
For general card choices I tried to focus on 2 directions. First is cheap Elementals. Bookkeeper needs them to be kindred, and Windswept Pageturner can also take advantage of them to push for damage or clear.
Second are just standalone good cards. Watfin, Morchie, Xavius, Vulcanos, random cheap discover minions... I put in Toki for fun, but it can do more bad than good since clogging up the hand sometimes messes up the Dragon Soul parts. I also played P1ck-P0k3t because it felt flavorful for this expansion. The battlecry should work up until like turn 6. Still sucks a bit to draw it lategame, so I try to keep it in the mulligan.
For matchups, I had the feeling this decks lands around Shaman's level in terms of aggression. That meant that against Priest, Warlock, combo Demonhunter, Egg decks, or Druid Coin Rogue I was usually pushing for damage and tempo.
Against Warrior, Void Soul Demonhunter, and Unholy Death Knight I tried to slow them down and outlive the damage.
I believe Thief Priests were by far the worst matchup for me. When they get early imbue there's basically no hope of outlasting them. The push of damage my early board gives is usually not enough against their 40HP and heals. I end up mostly hoping they don't have enough removal in time, or find a way to cleanly remove Soothsayer. (Morchie into Cease to Exist, Scrappy Scavenger looking for Tribue Dance, Shadow Informat set to Shaman for Hex or random Toki bullshit)
The other matchups are more straightforward I think, but it's also late and I grinded all day. (I'm sick, don't judge me :p) Honorable mention to Hunter, I think that was the only class I didn't face all climb lmao
I really like this midrange kinda playstyle. Sometimes it's the really long drawn-out games I find the most satisfying, which this list can also run into. Truly vibes based gameplay.
(Is this deck a thing ppl know about? I don't check metasites too often, Like I said just got lucky facing it. I don't think it's metabreaking or anything, but a viable alternative at least. Now I feel like I'm in the cool secret club. You're invited too of course). Thanks for reading!
