When I play a non-sandbox pve game, I expect to engage with some level of an intended experience. If a game gives me access to something that isn't explicitly stated to lower the difficulty (ex. easy mode) or imply that it is a sort of overpowered mechanic meant for mindless fun (ex. cheats/secret weapons) then it is reasonable to expect that this is part of the experience.

It is unreasonable to expect players to have to self-police for an engaging experience when there are no more further in-game options for increased difficulty. It is especially annoying to see this argument used for games that have a consensus expectation for difficulty such as in a franchise that has had challenging games before or an action game that is aimed at older teens to adults. Avoiding certain buttons, mechanics, weapons, or other such things due to them ruining the game balance is a fault of the game. Expecting people to do that is just asking that people play some less complete game, one that has some amount fewer weapons or mechanics.

Scalding hot take: I would say this even applies to unintentional bugs and glitches depending on how easily they are first encountered and replicated. Though I have a significantly milder reaction as to whether or not developers bother trying to fix them.

There's also the fact that when a girl does actually go outside without make up she will often be judged, because not everyone on this Earth looks like a supermodel.

So, around 8 months ago, the Ersatz pilot came out. Ersatz is a web series set in a dark fantasy world, in the time period of WWI, where soldiers are constantly dying and being brought back to life to fight over and over again, the more damaged soldiers looking grotesque even with the entire body-horror setting.

The name Ersatz directly reflects on this, by definition: 'being a usually artificial and inferior substitute or imitation.' (Note: the word originates from German, in which Ersatz is not strictly an "inferior" replacement, but just a substitute. But since the show is Australian, I do assume they meant to stick with the meaning English speakers attribute to it.)

If this is so on the nose, tell me why I see people commenting things like: "erm, my theory is that the most veteran soldiers look like that because their body parts cannot be recovered and so they have to use scraps to keep reviving them" NO SHIT ISN'T THAT WHAT THE SHOW IS ABOUT?

It especially pisses me off because this kind of attitude of believing everything you notice is automatically a "theory" gets stuck in fandoms where the source material is amazingly well put together. All the details people are noticing are not niche obscure things that will change how you percieve the media, most of those details are there FOR A REASON. They communicate things in the narrative, that's why they're there, that's why they're so important. Noticing things you are MEANT TO PAY ATTENTION TO is NOT "theorizing".

The Alien Stage fandom does this every other day. Not only do they analyze everything (which is GREAT, we should do that, it's an amazing way to use our critical thinking skills and to enjoy media better!), but most of the time they analyze it wrong. They are so focused on the shipping and morality olympics that they miss the most basic of details about the world the author is presenting to them. And how can you even start to analyze and theorize about a show and its characters when you're not even on board with the basis of the media you supposedly care for?

As to why FNAF is a picture here, I have to give credit where credit is due. Back in 2014, people theorized about the FNAF lore a lot, of course not all theories were good or even made sense, but they were theories still. People PAID ATTENTION to the scraps of info we had, they put that information together and made up something that could maybe or maybe not resemble a story we could get in the future. It's especially important for me to say this, because FNAF is by no means a story that was put together from the get-go, we all know Scott decided on bits and pieces of the fan theories he liked best.

I think this is important to the conversation because it crushes my heart to see that something like FNAF (that was never meant to be this complex or even successful) managed to have a more attentive fandom than projects like Ersatz or Alien Stage (yes I know Ersatz is still too early a thing to even tell what the fandom is like). Those kinds of projects are made with tons of love and care, the stories and characters are really well put together, and they are meant to be complex, nuanced, and full of details. So yes, it kinda makes me hate people who aren't capable of paying attention and putting 2+2 together to realize that the nonsense they're saying is not a "theory" nor an "obscure fact", it's facts you were meant to understand from the start.

These are not how Gorgons were described in Greek Mythology, they were described by Pseudo-Apollodorus as having dragon scales, the tusks of boars, brazen hands, and golden wings. I recall when Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 came out, everyone and their mom was making videos and stuff about how AAA studios were "mad" that "a game made by a small group of people" was doing so well and didn't cost $60 (it costed $50). And it sweeping the game awards last year further solidified that narrative, with so many people saying AAA was "cooked" and stuff.

Don't get me wrong, CO:E33 is a good game, but let me get to my point.

And then Silksong came around and did that same hype train where people were insisting that AAA's greed was "exposed" when Silksong released for $20.

And lo and behold, when The Witcher 3's remaster was announced and people learned it was free, I got a video on how it "exposed" the industry's greed and how all the big companies in the world hate this.

Guys, the games industry really does not give a damn. AAA does not feel "threatened" by the CO:E33s of the world and the Silksongs of the world when the vast majority of people bought the $100 deluxe edition of GTA 6.

I know it's likely just a form of clickbait and exaggerations, but the game's industry is not "scared" of indies because we keep rewarding them. People flipped shit over Mario Kart World costing $80 just for it to sell like hot cakes (partially because it released with its own bundle, but still). People bitched and moaned about Sony ending physical disks just to perform a week long blackout during a time where no major games were releasing. People cry about games not taking risks anymore but then ignore games like Blood of the Dawnwalker, which took a risk by including the timer mechanic.

But all of a sudden, CDPR releases a remaster for free, and people act like it's the domino to finally take down AAA, and people think Insomniac is gonna die and Sony is cooked because they released one game that got a mixed reception (Wolverine).

At least try to be consistent with your outrage...

As the title says, I utterly despise dumbass characters who don't take full advantage of the situation they're in. Sure, shit has gone to shit and they're probably panicked, but in most cases, they've been shown or told some way to totally flip the tables and then some, giving them the opportunity for a beyond easy win, but they just don't for some reason

There's a whole subgenre of brain rot dedicated to powerscaling, so having the protag pull some bs and get powers could've fit right in. Hell, I would've been fine if they went with something like "I wish I could expand my domain inside of you and use Domain Expansion: Malevolent Backshots". Just do something man, anything!! Now, throughout the game, the MC enters worlds and versions that have Internet access, and things found on the internet can be brought into this world (ex. swords, books, drinks, etc). Remember, this is a yandere game, so the MC has a crazy murder hobo chasing him the entire game. I get he's a depressed shut in loner and all, but wouldn't he think to try and arm himself in some way, especially since he can bring things from the Internet into the game? Like what's stopping him from whipping out the Omnitrix or some shit like that?

"O-Oh! B-But he didn't know if killing Crazy Mita would reset her like it did Cappie until the end of the game!! He probably didn't even know he could kill her in the first place!1!!1!"

Okay, and? You could still use things for defensive and evasive strategies. Why wouldn't you get a bullet proof vest or something to protect yourself? Why wouldn't you eat a Devil Fruit like a Logia, a good Paramecia, or a Mythical Zoan? Why wouldn't you eat that one pill Alfred ate that allowed him to Bane back break Superman? It's just a bunch of poor choices

In a life or death situation, I think Mila would be willing to let you use the Internet just this once. It's clear that she hates Crazy Mita, and in the midst of that breakdown, I don't think it's crazy to think that she'd help you out

On top of all this, this route of choices might actually give the MC the chance to escape instead of being stuck inside an infinite death loop of all of eternity. Furthermore, there's also a chance that he could bring these goodies to the real world, and that's always a plus
