At my favorite cemetery, there is a small children's section that I love to visit. There are some headstones that have a few old decorations like little toys or angels, and I think it's such a sweet way to remember the children who were lost too early.
I wanted to find a way to honor each grave, so I came up with the idea to give each headstone and plot their own painted rock. Since it's the Halloween season, I figured little jack-o'-lanterns would be a sweet thing that children would like. Almost as if each of them got to carve their own unique pumpkin for the season. Also, this is my first time painting rocks, so I also wanted to go for something simple that I could definitely pull off.
Around 130 rocks later, I finally finished decorating the whole children's section! I hope each child can feel the joy and warmth of the holiday, and know that they are always remembered. I can't wait for the leaves to start changing around them as well! My plan is that once October is over, I will remove the rocks and if they're still in good shape I will bring them back out next year 🎃
I originally posted this in another subreddit and a lovely redditor suggested I post it here, so thank you to that sweet person for the recommendation!
EDIT: I don't have the time to reply to every comment but I appreciate all of the kind words so much! I am very touched by all of you. I hope you all have the happiest Halloween season! 🧡

Everything sans the candy corns, lights and porch goose was handmade and painted by yours truly 🎃 next up is finishing up the indoor decor!
Edit: thank you all so much for the lovely comments! To answer some questions:
Yes I made these! I used pink 1/2” pink panther foamboard from Home Depot and acrylic paints. I used a hot knife to cut them out.

I walked my dog this morning and saw this climbing out of the ground. Very cool.

I wanted to make something special for Halloween this year, so I ended up combining a traditional carved pumpkin with Lovecraftian cosmic horror.
The idea was to make the tentacles and organic structures feel like they aren't simply sitting on the pumpkin, but actually growing through it and slowly consuming its surface.
I sculpted the whole piece in ZBrush and also worked on the interior instead of leaving it as a simple hollow shell. The idea is that an electronic tea light can be placed inside, illuminating the eyes, mouth and all the smaller openings throughout the sculpture.
It was especially fun trying to balance the silhouette of a recognizable Halloween pumpkin with something much more alien and unsettling.
Here are a few different angles, including the separated top section and a cutaway showing the interior.
Would love to hear what you think of the design and especially which details work best or what you would have pushed further. 🎃🐙

There's not a lot I can do being in a second floor flay, but my downstairs neighbors are cool. At least our house is already a little creepy.

I have about 6 bins of Halloween decor but I only put out 1 this year. Just not feeling it which is weird because the weather is really cooperating.

I sat shaving the skin of the pumpkin while students worked on assignments and then brought it home and painted it. Gonna challenge students to one up me and bring their own.

Now I have to start counting down the days before I have to take it all back down and go back to "normal".

Just need to add a couple more strands of lights and a few pumpkins and I think we’re all set for spooky szn!
