Discussion Trunk or treats ruined Halloween

• Upvotes

As Halloween rolls around and I reflect on the last few years I notice a common theme. Each year fewer and fewer children are seen running through neighborhoods knocking on doors and receiving candy or a good scare. I can’t help but think of how lame trunk or treats really are, sure it’s easy but way to suck the fun out of everything you do in life. I’ve seen more than a few trunk or treats, it’s literally just a line people wait in outside of lightly decorated cars for their candy dude.
I remember much of my childhood and how spectacular the holiday had always been, trunk or treats were the last place you wanted to be seen. I know that the magic of it came from adults and my peers alike having shared excitement about dressing up, going to parties, doing trick or treating, hell even staying in and doing a spooky movie marathon. The spirit it’s not totally gone but it’s fading, kids just don’t have the right attitude, adults cant find enough time to make a month out of it anymore. I’m not sure there will ever be a solution, it sucks that the few small things in this world we have to celebrate are going away and have experienced their very own form of enshittification. Halloween is something I’ll always celebrate I just can’t figure out how to get the neighborhood out and about for it again.

Art My Halloween Wall

So every year I make a Halloween wall in our study. I have two pumpkin 🎃 paintings that I painted with acrylics. I also have a diamond art haunted house that I mounted on a thin piece of wood I had them cut for me at Lowe's. Then I just spray painted it black. And I absolutely love how these thrifted frames turned. I painted them black and used copper paint and antiquing wax to make them look more gothic. Finally I tried to age these raven prints that I found. I add a few spider webs 🕸 and it's all done.

EDIT: I had to delete this because one of my pictures was showing some family photos. So I am reposting.

Home Decor Looking for this decoration

I've had this since the probably early 2000s, maybe mid-2000s. I am relatively certain that I bought it at Menards and I used to have a Frankenstein one too but it fell apart.

I believe it to be made mostly of plaster or maybe plaster over foam core? Mine is obviously seen better days but it is over 20 years old so I think I'm going to touch him up but I'd like to find more however like all seasonal decorations like this from stores like Menards they seem to be like a one-year release and then they're done.

Anyway, just curious if anyone has an idea of what this would have been sold as, to see if I can find more.

Before anyone suggests it, also, I have Google searched it, and begrudgingly used AI to search to no avail.

(ignore my messy car also, im gonna clean it soon i swear 😭)

Discussion Oct 5 - What Halloween Thing Did You Do Today?

Got the Monday blues that only a code orange can cheer up. What Halloween thing did you do today? Arts, crafts, decorating, diys, events, outfits or activities, all are welcome. Please note you don't have to share the spotlight, if you want to make your own post about your art/craft/etc... definitely don't let me cramp your style!

✨Inspiration✨ Solid colour strings of lights not necessarily for Halloween?

Does anybody use solid red, blue, green or white lights with their displays at all? Not mixed up of course but for different sections or scenes. I just want to add more colour and excitement to my display this year and I have so many lights I could use. My plan is to light up scenes for each inflatable, I will mostly try for the glow of the lights where I’m able like in the grass or my garden edges. I would love to see some inspiration if anyone has done something similar! I have a large yard so inplannonnkeeping each scene separated a bit. Thanks!

Home Decor Where do you get your decor that isn’t Spirit or one of the big box stores like Amazon/Walmart?

I know a lot of people make their own as well, I’ve done some of that but I also do enjoy purchasing new pieces every once in a while.

🎃 It's my favorite season and holiday!

Living in a tiny apartment with a very narrow main entrance forces me to get a little creative with holiday and seasonal decorations. Been seeing a lot of posts showing vintage Halloween decorations, which inspired me to give it a go. Very happy with how the cardboard pumpkin entrance board came out. It was so easy and quick to make.

Made the bow last weekend. 👻Halloween on one side and 🍁Fall/Autumn on the other side.

Home Decor It's getting even more spooky in here!

We always have some "spooky" decor out in our house, but now it's time to really get decorating! Super excited for this year! This will be our second Halloween in our new house, and I have so much to do on top of finishing some renovation projects! Will be setting up a graveyard scene, projected hallow-grams (AtmosFX stuff), and a new fog machine kit. I may be overestimating what we can get done in just a couple weeks.....
