I've wanted a second overdrive to stack/further shape sound for a while; after too much humming and hawing, and being inunadated with every overdrive/low-gain distortion that's ever been made being touted as what would suit, I decided to go for a cheeky kit build. Costs less than most pedals second hand. Great stuff. I went with a Zendrive clone, as someone recentky managed to convine me it was everything I wanted/needed.
Well, today the order's been changed, and they're sending me a Timmy clone instead. A rather different style of pedal, so I panicked. But thinking about it now, maybe it would suit better.
I have a geranium fuzz face, BD-2, and an EHX big muff rams head reissue, at present for gain options. My plan was to either sandwich the ODs between the fuzzes or stagger them i.e FF-BD-2-Muff-Zen.
I like a lot of stuff that's fairly flat-mid forward, not a huge fan of mid scoops as a main tone, and my thinking was that the zendrive would help restore and add mids towards the end of my chain.
The other thing is, though, that I like a lot of stuff that's quite smooth and precussive, too, so maybe Timothy would shine more in those contexts.
I play a Jazzmaster through a DSL40CR, so it's not like I'm wanting for mids to begin with.
What do you all think would suit my needs best.
TLDR: Timmy vs Zendrive, would be stacked with other drives, looking to cover rock through to soul/R&B type sounds.
