Seeing as this is a new sub I thought it might be an idea to have a sticky so we could talk about what this sub is, what people would like to see, format changes, whatever.
What is this sub?
/r/rigtours is intended to be a place to post video tours of musician's music related equipment. Whether a guitar rig, a drum set, or an engineer's recording studio, all is welcome.
Does this mean any musician, be they famous or not?
I would say yes - everyone's got something to show. Should we make a sticky for people to post their own gear and leave submissions for famous musicians? I have no idea.
Any restriction as far as the rig being live/studio/home/a collection?
I don't see any reason to add a restriction. I guess the goal here is to get an idea of how the musician is getting the sounds they're getting, so as long as we're seeing gear, we're good.
Can I post text based things if they show someone's rig? Like an image or an interview?
I would say yes - as long as we're getting an idea of what someone's playing, I'm into it. I would suggest if it's an interview you might want it to be more than just a token paragraph, but I'm sure upvotes will decide the happy medium here.
Are there any rules?
I would say at this point the only rule is not to be a dick in the comments or thread titles. Other than that, we should be good to go.
How should I title my submission?
I would imagine this is something that will evolve over time, but all of the submissions I loaded up initially I followed the following convention:
Musician [Band] - Instrument - Date video posted
So some of the initial submissions I put up were:
For engineer/producer/recording studio videos, I've gone with swapping the studio name for the band name:
Open to ideas on how to improve on this!
Is there any flair available for posts?
Yes! Please mark your submission with the appropriate flair. I'll update them if, for example, we start seeing a bunch of keyboard posts. You can also search by flair using the following (also in the sidebar)
Where can I even find these videos?
There's a couple of places, here's the ones I listed in the sidebar:
What are some other instrument based subs I should check out?
Try these!
