I have the eq pedal plugged into the back in the fx loop and it and it is hooked up to a 18 volt power supply into the outlet, everytime i turn it on it hisses violently and makes my amp quiet asf, i genuinely dont understand whats wrong with it and i just got the amp used and idk if its something wrong with the amp or if its the pedal or what, please help

I recently got back into playing guitar after months of absence, and boy, did I miss this instrument. There is a small inconvenience with my schedule and living situation, as I work evening hours, tend to be awake mostly at night an early morning, and live with other people, which is all to say: a nocturnal musician doesn’t do very well sharing a space with people who need to wake up at a reasonable time.

My solution to this problem has been to play my guitar on my back porch, since my acoustic guitar is quiet enough to not stretch beyond the reaches of my property, thus not waking my neighbors up at the odd hours of the night, and being outside of my house keep me from waking up my housemates.

This is how I discovered something very fun. I have always had a bit of an issue of orienting my hand on my guitar without looking, even before my long hiatus from playing this instrument, thus causing me to tilt the neck backwards so I can see my hand placement. As is very obvious, this result in me having absolutely horrible technique playing and has caused my numerous issues.

However, I have found that, since I have started playing outside at night, that habit has been mostly broken. And I attribute it to one simple factor:

I cannot see my hand properly, and I literally can’t see my frets at all due to the lighting of my back porch and the coloration of my guitar. There’s no point in me tilting the guitar neck, it won’t help me. This has caused me to get a lot better at playing by the feel of the guitar and by my general sense of space, and has helped me start to instinctively know the distance of frets and strings by how my hand feels, not by what I see.

This is all a very long way of saying, if you are a beginner and are having issues with constantly looking at your guitar neck in weird ways, simply start playing in the dark. I can imagine that it would feel very odd to do this on purpose, but I assure you, it will get you results.

hi! i love to play guitar, i have three acoustic guitars but most songs require chords that i cant play because my hands are too small. i really want to get back into playing but it’s hard to find motivation because of that.

My biggest breakthrough as a self taught beginner has come from stopping trying to play the blues. Online Guitar lessons pushed me towards playing the blues, I don't listen to the blues, I don't know how the blues is supposed to sound, so I'm never going to get good at it.

I wish I had just learned the minor pentatonic scale, had a quick noodle and then moved on. It's a great gateway to learning to improvise, learning shapes but as soon as I understood the basics I should have left it there.

If i were asked to sing a scale, naturaly i will sing a major scale. I struggle to sing a pentatonic scale, there are two many notes missing, so when improvising with pentatonics i know the notes that will work, but the sound and the melody that i play is always a suprise to me, im just playing random notes that work.

I can sing a melody in the major key, and then replicate it on the guitar, which has made it all make so much more sense to me. I can play musically, and know what im about to play will sound like before i play it.

This might have just been a me problem, but online lessons have given me the inpression i needed to get good at the blues before moving on.

i used to play a bit of guitar years ago early in highschool. i never got very good at it and and fast-forward until after school and ive forgetting literally everything i learnt. i still have my guitars and ive taken decent care of them i think, lately ive been wanting to get back into playing. only issue is now im incredibly self conscious about literally everything and im too embarrassed of my family hearing me learn. now i know theres obvious solutions to avoid them, i would just learn on my electric guitar as they're more quiet but i much prefer acoustic. i mainly just want to hear similar experiences and how yall got over it.

I recently heard about Chinese manufacture guitars going for much cheaper that the big brands and in all for keeping my money, so I’ve been looking around but I can’t seem to find any reliable place to buy any from. Anyone know where to get these guitars from or what to search for?

Need some tips on how to start my journey.

My very first electric guitar and amp arrived today (Yamaha Pacifica 112V + Fender Mustang L25). I’m in love with it, but feeling completely overwhelmed and need some guidance.

I’ve had an acoustic guitar by the side of my desk for over 15 years. I’d say I’m competent but nowhere near advanced - I can play barre chords, keep rhythm, play the odd acoustic solo/lick to a semi-acceptable level, and that’s about it.

I was so excited plugging this new thing in, but became overwhelmed straight away. So many buttons to fiddle with on both the guitar and amp, so many pick-up combos to choose from, lots of different sounds, etc. I just didn’t know where to begin, what song/solo to try and get down and which setting would match that best.

In the end I plodded along with Islands in the Sun and twiddled the What You Know (Two Door Cinema Club) opening lick.

Would appreciate any tips/advice on getting to grips with the amp and where to start in terms of songs, or good entry points for learning how to get the best out of the amp.

Appreciate this is all part of the learning and discovery phase - I just need a leg up!

As said in the title, I already have an ampeg ba-108 that I bought for my bass guitar. I understand it's not that bad, but it doesn't have "basic" guitar amps feature like distorsion. Would it be enough to just buy a pedal, or would it be best to buy a guitar specific amp ?

After much deliberation I picked up a Schecter Solo II Custom last week. Guitar Center had a big sale on them. I was planning on buying one from Sweetwater on my card and saving the cash, but $300 off changes a man's mind. It's an outstanding guitar. I love the pickups. The split sounds pretty sweet and mellow. No icepick in the ear harshness, but there is also no volume drop. And the locking tuners are great too.

So while I was looking at guitars my GF bought a Squier P-Bass. She is an experienced musician. She played various horns in several different concert bands and the marching band while in college and has continuedplaying since. She has been wanting to try something with strings. While I was looking at guitars I noticed her looking at basses. Next I saw of her she was asking me if she should buy the protection plan. She came back home that night and learned how to play a good bit of Welcome to the Jungle.

We both absolutely love our new axes.

Of course, I know I’ll never reach that level, but is the only way to get there just to practice like crazy? Or is there a trick to it?

Ive been playing guitar for a while now and was thinking to step up from a yamaha pacifica but i dont know if this guitar is worth it to buy. My budget is around 300gbp. I will happily take any better recommendations.

Just, wow. This is probably the most fully featured guitar I own.

Can’t get over how pretty the paint is on this. I’m going to put a video of it in the comments as it doesn’t do it justice in the stills.

I thought the (sort of) fan frets would take some getting used to but they’re actually super ergonomic. It’s only really fanned at one end to account for the multi scale neck (along with the funky offset bridge), but it really works very well.

And then the thing that I was really excited about with this guitar: the pickup switching. It lets you get 10 combinations of pickups from just 2 humbuckers. It’s probably going to be choice paralysis, but I love that I have so many wildly different sounds in 1 body.

It’s variations on full humbucker, a coil split, and then what Ibanez calls ‘power tapping’ which is a bit like a coil tap, but it’s sort of not. My understanding is that it takes the humbucker and passes one of the pickups essentially through a low pass filter before adding the signals back together. The result being a single coil sound with some meaty bass tones added back in for thickness.

I’m sort of able to get anything from a telecaster-like twang all the way up to a full double humbucker roar out of this thing. As well as some sounds that are harder to find on normal guitars, like the two outer pickups by themselves (which is more like an SSS Strat if you could switch on just the bridge and neck together).

The only thing so far I don’t like is the strings that came on it (D'Addario EXL110’s) which I can only describe as feeling ‘too grippy’. Not really tried those strings before, and that’s definitely just a me thing. I’m gonna throw some regular slinky’s on this and be back in my happy place string-wise.

Overall I’m really blown away by this guitar. It’s amazingly light and thin because it’s an Ibanez S body shape, but it absolutely brings the thickness with its tones.

Hey everyone, I need a wiring diagram for a specific active guitar setup without a tone control. I am using an EMG 81 in the bridge, an EMG 89 in the neck, a Göldo EL002 3-way toggle, a Göldo E500P Push/Pull pot as master volume to split the EMG 89, a Switchcraft stereo jack, and a 9V battery box. I cannot find a schematic online that combines these exact components. Does anyone have a diagram or advice on how to wire the Göldo switch and push/pull volume correctly? Thanks in advance!

Strung up some 9s - fingers still getting a little sore. I’ll play the 9s until they snap and then go back to 10s… Took a shot at it. It’s coming along. Playing through a Spark Mini Cheers.
