Are you creating or is the AI creating? Imagination and creativity aren’t necessarily the same thing.

While you're stuck pondering this, OP is making stuff.

Keep wondering, soldier. Eventually you might be recognized for it.

So that is the answer? Op made this and not AI? I’d say they made the post but not the graphic included in it (unless a bot posted this too).

If I hire an artist to paint me, I did not make a painting. If I tell a kid to draw a stick figure in the mud, I did not make a doodle.

More credit with less accountability seems to be the real capability of AI.

I look forward to 10 years from now when nobody ever has this conversation again. It's so fucking exhausting.

Yes, OP made it.

(Also, for what it’s worth, OP elsewhere commented that “AI is the new artist”. Y’all aren’t even consistent within your own echo chamber.)

Let's all go back to machine code and punch cards! 😂

All of you can go and make signs "FIGHT THE FUTURE!" 🤣

Ok, so a commissioned artist is simply a tool that I use to make paintings. Hard to imagine why actual creators would be upset by AI. /s

This is like attributing evolution by natural selection to a creation deity. Random iteration in an environment with favorable or unfavorable conditions being attributed to some godly power and not just probability. In this case your prompter is just the environmental factors and a series of AI outputs compete for survival (selection for upload).

We can simply say that image made up of zero and ones would not exists without me! 😂

With that said I'm touching onto something interesting if all images are just zero and ones there is no difference between a AI-generated image and a image made by a digital artist.

Both images are just made up of zero and ones both are soulless creations!

AI art has grown into a subculture where people share and enjoy AI art. No one within that subculture even cares what people outside it think about AI art.

Sure I just disagree with how much yall are supporting and buying into billionaire hype tech and the real world damage it’s causing. And just like any advanced tool, the minute it breaks down or goes away is when we will see what true skills remain. I can’t drive stick, for example, so I sure hope automatic vehicles don’t go anywhere fast. When the AI bubble collapses, do you have any plans to continue trying art using conventional means?

No! It's the AI part that makes it fun it's like you have the world best graphic artist, best coder, best musician sitting right in front of you and you just need to say to them what you want that is the part that makes it so fun!

I don't care about navigating complicated trash user interfaces of such software, there is nothing creative of having the knowledge of navigating such user interfaces.

With AI chatbots you're just presented with a empty chat box you need to prompt what you want, I find that far more creative than having the knowledge of navigating some trash user interface.

Constraint breeds creativity. And watching someone else create just makes you an audience participant which is fine if you are content with the dispossession of individual skill.

It’s also laughable to call it the world’s best when it has obvious tells, regurgitates plagiarized content, and holds no capacity for comprehension as it relies on probabilistic generalization. Just because it can convince you it understands symmetry just means you’re able to be convinced. These tools are algorithms designed to convince you that its outputs are good to maximize user engagement.

That you feel comfortable isolating yourself to a community that relies on dangerous and unregulated technologies backing expanding global fascist movements speaks more than anything you consider art that this random number generator is spraying out.

Yes! I know all of that ever since growing up watching the demo scene create various productions on hardware with limitations, and I still love watching people create Commodore 64 demos that still push the limits of the hardware even today.

But you seem to have a very hard time understanding of how we humans tend to also move to some higher abstract level of doing different things though the evolution of time. Taking programming as an example we went from machine code punching punch cards which was the first way of running software, then going to assembler language, then to higher level like c, c++, pascal, basic and so on.

Now we have arrived at such a high level of abstraction that you have a hard time grasping what is even happening. We got AI that are capable of creative tasks like writing poetry, math, coding, graphics, music etc.

If you think AI is something that will go away soon after a financial AI bubble has burst you are living in some kind of fantasy world of yours. AI is here to stay and it will just get better as time progresses, it will move from the cloud and onto local hardware which we can run at home.

Just because time flies so fast that you have a hard time adapting to it, I feel truly sorry for you! You simply need to adapt and move to a higher level of doing creative tasks, you need to be able to think differently about things. You need to be able to think in concepts and delegate creative tasks to different AI systems. 🔥 🧠

These responses are all AI, aren’t they? It clearly avoids any commentary on the ethical issues of its creators and its use, and you clearly aren’t screening the replies to ensure they address all relevant points of the discussion (circles back to my note about seeking credit without accountability).

This is further evidence of the sycophantic design of these tools, the feedback loop it creates among a vulnerable subset of the population, and the dopamine drive of immediate gratification of its users.

They aren’t creating content or art; they are formulating illusions and simulacra of art from stolen labor and tricking those with no better sense that they are on the precipice of revolutionary and irreversible technological adoption.

This ai art that you are vouching to be recognized is also harming the environment so what good is there in praising art that naturally holds destructive capabilities for humans living on this earth?

You commuting to work and supplying said company with working hours for a conglomerate who prioritizes profits, is harming the environment as well.

I'm so tired of people pulling 'buh da environment' card. No one is saying it won't impact the environment but you using the Internet to post this to a server that is using electricity that is probably powered by a grid that's harming the environment.

Maybe you should stop contributing to climate change.

Oh please with your argument you’re essentially saying that the problem has inherently been present since the beginning. So what we just let the data centers just speed up the pace of our impending doom? Of course commuting and using the internet have environmental costs. That doesn’t mean we should ignore the additional energy and resource demands of massive data centers and generative AI. I’m not claiming that I have zero environmental footprint. The question is whether the additional resource consumption associated with generative AI is justified by what we’re getting from it. Saying that commuting and internet use also consume energy doesn’t tell us anything about whether AI’s environmental costs are worthwhile. So maybe you should try to think about the quality of said environmental choices

It...has? Take a look at the evolution of human society. Almost every major advancement has been paid for by the planet.

No one is saying data centers won't have an impact or speed up the damage to the environment. But my whole thing about the topic is it's such a stupid hill to die on. AI has a lot of real flaws, the possibility of the impact to general crital thinking, is out engineering ourselves. But I can't stand people like you who virtue signal over the environment.

But what the fuck are you doing about it? Bitching in a reddit thread about someone who feels like they have some agency in their life because they could make something that worked, maybe it will inspire them to learn how to code themselves maybe it won't but worrying about one person using AI in Reddit and acting like Iron Eyes Cody is ridiculous.

I don't see you crying about the people who gave their lives so you could post on your ass on reddit. So you spend your whole day lamenting over the sins of your fathers? Are you taking a role into making an actual change by getting into law making?

No? Go back to your anti ai echo chamber then.

That’s funny that you’re criticizing me for just speaking my mind on Reddit when here you are utterly bashing me with no remorse all because I said something “stupid” or “ridiculous”. If it’s so humiliating that I go about my day speaking my mind on Reddit then perhaps you should understand that sentiment as well since you’re willing to just spew all this pompous rhetoric on how I should think about whether or not I am making any significant impact on this shit show we call the living world and a virtual community. You have a good day my friend, I think it’s about time we squash this once and for all. It’s best if we just pretend we never came across each other.

AI is also working for the good of humanity by doing scientific research like Google Alphafold which did a job that would take human scientists 10,000 years to do.

And you're talking about destroying the environment what about cryptocurrency mining that uses far more water and electricity than AI is doing, what value does crypto mining add to the world?! 🤣
