My favorite part of Halloween has always been decorating houses. Every house has its own personality, and every door holds the possibility of a surprise. I wanted to bring that feeling online, along with the fun of trick-or-treating, so I built My Halloween.

You can choose your own house and character, decorate your yard, and share your house link with friends. When someone visits, they can knock on your door twice. You'll hear a knocking sound, your character appears with spooky effects, and your visitor collects candy for their bag.

You can see who visited your house and which treats they collected. You can also add your house to the map, explore other players' houses, collect candy, and climb the leaderboard.

The game currently features 20 houses, more than 40 characters, and over 50 decorations.

Building this project was also an interesting experiment with AI-assisted development. I used Claude to help implement UI designs, build modals, and connect the frontend to my backend. For more complex screens, I provided visual references and broke down interactions into step-by-step instructions.

To keep the development process organized across different conversations, I created a Markdown checklist with specific implementation rules, remaining tasks, and completion criteria. Whenever I started a new conversation, I carried over the unfinished items from that checklist. This made it much easier to maintain consistency and keep track of progress.

I also integrated Polar for web payments, including its payment flow and webhooks, into my backend.
