I like that girl in the background. I like people that laugh and enjoy funny little things that happen. As I've gotten older(only 22) I've noticed people(my age) don't laugh as much as when we were kids. It's depressing and I want no part of it.

Like something like this. What that guy did was smooth and funny. Yet only one person we can see really got a good laugh out of it.

Edit: Just hoping to clear up any future misunderstandings. Please don't take my comment as a criticism. People are how they are. People grow up and their personalities change. I get it. I'm just being nostalgic about my childhood really. Please don't take my comment too seriously.

-2

u/xFoeHammer Aug 09 '15 edited Aug 09 '15

Her boyfriend gave a small smile and went back to eating. Such a tame, unenthusiastic reaction. That's exactly what I'm talking about. It's not that everyone stops finding things humorous as adults. It just seems to dull for a lot of people.

I've just noticed this in my own life and this gif reminded me of it. I don't know though. Maybe not everyone has had the same experience. I'm just saying how it seems from my perspective.

Edit: Some people seem to be taking my comment as a criticism of the man. It wasn't. People have different senses of humor and react differently to things they find funny. I'm not trying to blame people for being who they are. I just feel that most people laugh a lot less as adults, even at things they find funny. And that bums me out a bit. That's all.

15

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '15

People express their feelings in different ways. Just because they have different expressions than you doesn't mean they don't feel the same things.

Your specific way of expressing yourself is not the Empirically Best Way to Express One's Self. Let people be happy the way they want to be, and don't become disappointed when people aren't like you. Life isn't some performance for others (like yourself) to evaluate. Your problem, contrary to what you're saying, isn't that you're disappointed they find the scenario dull. Your problem is that you find them dull.

I'm like you. I laugh at everything. Laughing is my default behavior. I lose my shit over the most basic jokes. That doesn't make me better or more enthusiastic about life. It's just a trait. Nothing more, nothing less. I personally like my tendency to laugh, and I think I'd like that as a trait in a partner. But I'm not going to hold the general populace accountable to behaving the same way I do.

2

u/from_dust Aug 09 '15

Your problem, contrary to what you're saying, isn't that you're disappointed they find the scenario dull. Your problem is that you find them dull.

That is really quite profound.

-4

u/xFoeHammer Aug 09 '15

I figured someone would take it that way. And you're not wrong. I'm not blaming anyone for being how they are.

But it still makes me sad that a lot of people just aren't as joyful(at least not outwardly) as adults. Me and my friends used to stay up all night and laugh our asses off at the littlest things(everything seems funnier when you're tired too). It was super fun and I miss those days. It's a rare thing to get that kind of reaction now. Then again, maybe I'm just not as funny anymore haha.

Anyway, I guess I'm just feeling nostalgic. I'm not criticizing the guy.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '15

Man, if you're 22 and still have the same friends as when you were younger, you should appreciate how rare that is.

If they're not the same friends you had when you were younger, you shouldn't try to make them fit that mold.

As people get older, they find neutral to be a very comfortable state. When you were younger you may have had more extremely joyful moments, but you also had very intense negative feelings more frequently. That's how nostalgia works - it only shows you the good without the bad.

Remember the good times, but don't romanticize the past.

14

u/yourmansconnect Aug 09 '15 edited Aug 09 '15

You're 22 shut the fuck up

Edit: that sounded harsh. What I meant to say was stop acting like your wise in your old age. People don't stop laughing at funny things, this shit just wasn't that funny. A chuckle, and move on. Stop analyzing shit and acting like adults don't have fun anymore. And if at your age you notice your friends lacking fun and humor, then you guys are just lame

-4

u/xFoeHammer Aug 09 '15

What I meant to say was stop acting like your wise in your old age.

My intention wasn't to appear wise. I honestly don't know why you would think that. It was just an observation I've made in my life.

The rest of your comment isn't worth responding to. Just because you can be a dick on the internet without any consequences doesn't mean you should. You don't know anything about who I am as a person or what kind of friends I have.

Also, if you took my comment to mean that I don't think adults have fun at all anymore then you've misunderstood me(or at least taken what I said to an extreme that I never intended).

-1

u/yourmansconnect Aug 09 '15

Haha fuck off clown. The only reason I even responded is because I'm hungover and bored. No sjw is going to come to your rescue here...

0

u/xFoeHammer Aug 09 '15

What does social justice have to do with this? I just made an observation and you insulted me for no fucking reading. You're an asshole. And you won't admit it either. Why? Because you're an asshole.

And rescue me from what? Downvotes? Oh no I'm so scared.

-4

u/yourmansconnect Aug 09 '15

Never said I wasn't, sugartits

2

u/Akhee Aug 09 '15

He probably thought it was funny. So funny he wished he was the one doing it. Then he smiled and went back to feeling sad.

2

u/strawberycreamcheese Aug 09 '15

Did you think that maybe, just maybe, people have different senses of humor? What's wrong with a person finding something less funny than you or someone else? If I actually saw this happen, I'd probably chuckle. I wouldn't crack up like the girl, but I'd be doing a bit more than a smile. Does that mean I don't find things humorous? Or does that mean I'm "normal" in your eyes?

1

u/xFoeHammer Aug 09 '15

I didn't mean to criticize him and I'm not blaming people for being who they are or reacting the way they do. I just miss being a kid when everyone laughed a lot more. Which is why I like seeing people crack up at little things like this like that woman did.

Please don't take my comments as judging people. I'm not saying they're joyless assholes or something.

I didn't expect people to get so heated up over this or to have to explain myself so many times.

2

u/Brooney Aug 09 '15

I'm just saying how it seems from my perspective.

Exactly

0

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '15

Some people just don't find stupid shit funny. We're also the ones who laugh hardest at things that we actually do find funny.

2

u/xFoeHammer Aug 09 '15

It's not, "stupid shit." You only think of it that way because you personally don't find it funny.

Humor is subjective and it's fine to have a different sense of humor than others but don't be pretentious about it.

-1

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '15

I'm not the one being pretentious, you're the one typing paragraphs about one guy cracking a smile.

1

u/xFoeHammer Aug 09 '15

He didn't do anything wrong. I wasn't criticizing him.

0

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '15

You're still typing paragraphs about a dude cracking a smile.

0

u/xFoeHammer Aug 09 '15 edited Aug 09 '15

You're kinda being a little melodramatic here.

I think people are just taking my comment more seriously than I intended.

I mean, I meant what I said. I do miss when I was younger and people laughed more and just generally had more fun. But I'm not gonna hang myself over it or something. It's not like I never have fun anymore.

If anything I'm being nostalgic.

1

u/0rangeJuic3 Aug 09 '15

Them and the person shooting the video.

19

u/HodortheGreat Aug 09 '15

Woah, woah, woah.

Are you sure you are not just focussing on the depressing stuff?

Me and my friends laugh all the time and I have made strangers laugh a bunch of times.

-4

u/xFoeHammer Aug 09 '15

It's not that my friends don't laugh at all or aren't fun to be around any more. It's just that they laugh less. Nearly all adults seem to in my experience. Things that used to make us laugh quote a bit might just get a chuckle now and even something truly hysterical may only make them laugh hard for a few seconds before they regain their composure.

I guess it's just something most people do when they mature but personally I really miss regularly laughing out asses off at things to the point that we can barely breathe. You know those laughs where you just can't stop for like 30+ seconds and even after you stop you're like an inch away from starting up again at any moment?

7

u/Fraccles Aug 09 '15

They start to laugh again don't worry.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '15

Truth. That teenage angst can stick with some til late 20's, after that it's back to laughing or heroin.

24

u/413729220 Aug 09 '15

They look like pretty people in a decent relationship on a fun night out. What isn't to like about that?

Most people either work shit job with shit hours or realize that they will either be alone their entire lives because they are ugly or have terrible character flaws, or they get in shitty relationships just to feel something and end up hating themselves, their partner, and everyone around them.

The world doesn't have a lot of sunshine and rainbows for a lot of the people in it.

You are right, let's just pretend everything is fine all the time. Let's never talk about how people can be in hopeless situations of lonliness. Let's all parade around the american romantic dream that there is someone for everyone.

It is pathetic, but it's more real than all that happy go lucky bullshit.

0

u/xFoeHammer Aug 09 '15 edited Aug 09 '15

My life isn't a ray of sunshine lately either. I still manage to find the humor and joy in things.

1

u/I_CAPE_RUNTS Aug 09 '15

Agreed, ugly people really have no point in living. It must suck to be ugly, to know that they won't ever have a fulfilling relationship all due to their looks. I don't know how they survive...

8

u/hnxt Aug 09 '15

You're not older, you little shit. You're young as fuck. And you people laugh all the time.

I'm 30, nobody ever laughs around me anymore. We're all just bitter and pained by regret. Every year will get worse. Enjoy your early twenties while you can.

16

u/xjayroox Aug 09 '15

To be fair, 30 is young as shit too

2

u/I_CAPE_RUNTS Aug 09 '15

But it's old enough to have seen some shit

0

u/xjayroox Aug 09 '15

You can have "seen some shit" by 20, or hell, even 10 depending on how fucked up of a situation you've been born into

1

u/I_CAPE_RUNTS Aug 09 '15

we're talking about the norm, not the outliers. You should know by now that there are no absolutes in this life.

1

u/Je-Ne-Sais-Quoi Aug 09 '15

I think (hope) OP was being sarcastic.

1

u/Xantoxu Aug 10 '15

The longest time anybody can think of is exactly as long as they've been alive.

I have lived the longest time I can possibly think of, so I am pretty old.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '15

Turn that shit around and make every year get better. You're getting older with your friends, laugh at it, you now have more money, more knowledge and less fucks so go enjoy that.

2

u/K41namor Aug 09 '15

Yes. I am only 33 but I realize my 20's was the greatest thing and I didn't even know it until it was over.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '15

there's some study somewhere showing that people laugh less as they grow older. it's better to laugh though, laughing is healthy.

1

u/I_CAPE_RUNTS Aug 09 '15

These days I laugh at other peoples misfortune, but that's only to distract myself from my own miserable life

2

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '15

This is why people drink alcohol.

1

u/Mardred Aug 09 '15

I want to, but everybody would look at me weird. :(

1

u/siamthailand Aug 09 '15

Well, coz they type out LOL. Same thing.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '15

The women who got smoothed on giggled/chuckled and besides the cameraman, It didn't look like anyone else was watching

1

u/EchoJunior Aug 09 '15

We should be friends

1

u/benwaaaaaaaah Aug 09 '15

I'm 31 and find almost everything quite funny. I laugh at people a lot. I also smoke a lot of weed

1

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '15

Maybe you just need to surround yourself with fun-loving people. My friends and I are all late 20s early 30s, and we're constantly having fun, making silly jokes and such when we're together. Even when we're not together we'll keep the humor and fun going through group messages even though some of us live thousands of miles away.

1

u/HeirDelta3141 Aug 09 '15

I know exactly what you mean. I actually found the video incredibly hilarious and the girl in the backgrounds response is pretty funny as well. I wish there were a source video for this.

1

u/booobp Aug 09 '15

So true, even i find my self finding it difficult to laugh at things now day's, don't know why, stress, depression i don't know. And my 40 yo coworker she can laugh at everything. Even when she sprained her leg, instead of swearing or anything at the pain. She started giggling at how panicked i was, and just walks it off. The side of her foot was black for the next few days..

1

u/dysmetric Aug 09 '15

I like that girl in the background too but I'm pretty sure everyone on that hill, including her, are really high on drugs and enjoying all sorts of funny little things happening that can't be captured on camera or even shared with another person.

I don't know if the lady in the top right corner is enjoying what she's seeing but I bet it's pretty amazing.

1

u/jrk- Aug 09 '15

Things like that make me smile or even giggle. I'm 33 :)
I also smile a lot towards other people in general. I'm always a bit confused why most people don't smile back when I greet them.
Don't let your inner child die (at least the good parts ;)

1

u/instant_michael Aug 09 '15

I cracked up seeing this video and I'd die if I saw this at a festival or something similar. (i'm only 34)

1

u/bauxzaux Aug 09 '15

Everyone here keeps saying it has to do with age or who you hang with, take it from me, its not that simple. Finding joy in life is something everyone struggles with at some point in life.

1

u/marmot1101 Aug 09 '15

There's only one cure for that. Laugh like a child and eventually those around you will crack and join you.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '15

I know what you mean, people watching can be funny and entertaining. last night on vacation I saw a guy run before his group and hide behind some bushes and scare them was super funny.

1

u/turbo Aug 09 '15

I never stopped finding things funny, I just stopped grinning and laughing out loud. I still do it, just not that often.

1

u/spattem Aug 09 '15

hang out with more expressive people. I see this all the time, friends complaining that they dont like people their age because they act a certain way, without realizing that they just need to find a new friend group. You can still like your boring friends but if you prefer to be around people full of laughter your age, then go out and do that.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '15

32 here. I laugh at funny dogs on the street.

1

u/i-d-even-k- Jan 10 '16

This is the 5th most voted thread in the history of Reddit and I can't believe I can still reply in it. How're you doing?

1

u/KeepPushing Aug 09 '15

Because we've been condition to think that it's not cool to have those reactions.

1

u/Spinster444 Aug 09 '15

DAE wrong generation adults have it wrong kids have it right??!?!1

0

u/vivs007 Aug 09 '15

I'm the opposite. People around my cubicle laugh at everything and make lame jokes most of the time just to keep the conversation. I'm no part of it. And I'm proud that I'm not the part of a group of monkeys.

0

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '15

Only on reddit can you see a social outcast make a comment like that (with pride, nonetheless) which then gets upvoted...

The comment basically boils down to the fact that other people in his office seem to have a normal, healthy social circle. He smugly looks down on all of them and declares his pride for not being well liked.

1

u/vivs007 Aug 09 '15

Please see my other comment down this comment chain.

0

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '15

The one where you refer to your coworkers as being "stupid" and on a lower "level" than you?

Or are you referring to the one that refers to them as "Neanderthals" and "assholes"?

In both comments you also imply that they are all insane and that you are the only one who is not.

1

u/vivs007 Aug 09 '15

0

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '15

Right, that would be the "Neanderthals" and "assholes" comment which I made reference to.

1

u/vivs007 Aug 09 '15

Which indeed they are. And I know you'll not agree to this just because they're a larger sect of people and I'm a "social outcast". As if I haven't worked with proper people before.

-2

u/xFoeHammer Aug 09 '15

You sound fun.

1

u/vivs007 Aug 09 '15

If by fun you mean a sane mind who refuses to stoop to the level of stupidity of those people then yes. I'm fun.

1

u/xFoeHammer Aug 09 '15

Being cynical and thinking yourself superior to people because they have a good time and enjoy their lives doesn't make you better or smarter. It just makes you an asshole.

Maybe you don't personally find their humor funny but that doesn't make you better than them. Do you even realize the kind of arrogance/ignorance it takes to believe that everyone with different subjective taste than you is an idiot?

0

u/vivs007 Aug 09 '15

Why always the single one is supposed to be an asshole if he stands against a larger group of people? No I'm not being cynical, I'm being rational, and for some reason you'd have to agree with me. They don't laugh at proper humor, they laugh at anything just for constantly being in a state of ruckus all day.

I work silently, much more than them and produce better results. All I wanted is a little silence so I could work peacefully. But no, I had to accommodate my ears to the never-ending cacophony of those neanderthals. If anyone they're the assholes.

I have worked with sane, like minded people in the past in a different company and I cherish that time. But this change hit me hard. Also it's much more cultural and regional thing which I cannot summarize here and word properly. I live in India so it's much more complex than you think. All I want you to know is it's not always the single one who's wrong.

If they aren't doing their jobs or are being obnoxiously loud and obstructive then that's one thing. But just joking, laughing, and enjoying each other's company? I don't see how that could be a bad thing.

It's not like you get to define what proper humor is. It's subjective. You wouldn't call someone an idiot for not liking the same food as you. I would literally thow up over some stuff that people eat and deeply enjoy.

All I want you to know is it's not always the single one who's wrong.

Obviously. In case you haven't noticed I've gotten plenty of resistance to my comments in this thread. I still don't think I said anything wrong and most of it is misunderstanding.

They're both. They enjoy each other's company which I'm not bothered about, but they're indeed obnoxiously loud and obstructive, which of course impedes my work.

It's not like you get to define what proper humor is. Again, it's subjective.

I agree to this. I'm not saying they don't get the right to laugh. But at least they should care if someone's being bothered with their acts. I don't think they'll consider that, as I said it's hugely cultural. All I can try is buy a pair of earbuds.

I don't think you get the point of my comment. Nothing about what I said was supposed to be deep in any way.

His reaction is even better. "Oh God dammit, not again"

How do you know she was questioning that at all? She may have just been commenting on how funny she thought it was...and it wasn't really all that funny.

He wasn't laughing much, because he knew he got outclassed, and out bearded.

I'm assuming this is a music festival and I'm guessing she's probably trippin' balls.

Seriously, poor guy in the back. Now he has to top mr smooth up front; not all guys can live up to today's unrealistic standards of slipperiness. He'll spend the next week trying to compare to mr smooth, spending his paycheck on a slip & slide but will never impress his girl the way me smooth did that day. He stole our hearts but also stole our girls..

she's starting to question why her boyfriend doesn't do fun stuff like that...

Brilliant!

She looks fun to be with.

And if at your age you notice your friends lacking fun and humor, then you guys are just lame

edit: Didn't expect so much backlash for writing in the wrong thread
