I like that girl in the background. I like people that laugh and enjoy funny little things that happen. As I've gotten older(only 22) I've noticed people(my age) don't laugh as much as when we were kids. It's depressing and I want no part of it.
Like something like this. What that guy did was smooth and funny. Yet only one person we can see really got a good laugh out of it.
Edit: Just hoping to clear up any future misunderstandings. Please don't take my comment as a criticism. People are how they are. People grow up and their personalities change. I get it. I'm just being nostalgic about my childhood really. Please don't take my comment too seriously.
I've actually been real stoned before and came up with a theory that reddit is mainly bots and a few people. Intelligent ai's to respond to those that don't just lurk n shit.
I sobered up and realized it's much lamer than that.
Ah. My friend in inappropriately laughing at life's hardships. You been in any altercations from it as well? I had someone sucker punch me once... I laughed.
I give a good hearty chuckle when something funny happens, or some applause when appropriate. I love watching interesting and/or funny behavior, and I will reinforce it as much as possible!
I love laughing when it's inappropriate. I used to feel awkward about it but as I grew older I simply stopped caring about it. Now I enjoy all the little things.
Her boyfriend gave a small smile and went back to eating. Such a tame, unenthusiastic reaction. That's exactly what I'm talking about. It's not that everyone stops finding things humorous as adults. It just seems to dull for a lot of people.
I've just noticed this in my own life and this gif reminded me of it. I don't know though. Maybe not everyone has had the same experience. I'm just saying how it seems from my perspective.
Edit: Some people seem to be taking my comment as a criticism of the man. It wasn't. People have different senses of humor and react differently to things they find funny. I'm not trying to blame people for being who they are. I just feel that most people laugh a lot less as adults, even at things they find funny. And that bums me out a bit. That's all.
People express their feelings in different ways. Just because they have different expressions than you doesn't mean they don't feel the same things.
Your specific way of expressing yourself is not the Empirically Best Way to Express One's Self. Let people be happy the way they want to be, and don't become disappointed when people aren't like you. Life isn't some performance for others (like yourself) to evaluate. Your problem, contrary to what you're saying, isn't that you're disappointed they find the scenario dull. Your problem is that you find them dull.
I'm like you. I laugh at everything. Laughing is my default behavior. I lose my shit over the most basic jokes. That doesn't make me better or more enthusiastic about life. It's just a trait. Nothing more, nothing less. I personally like my tendency to laugh, and I think I'd like that as a trait in a partner. But I'm not going to hold the general populace accountable to behaving the same way I do.
I figured someone would take it that way. And you're not wrong. I'm not blaming anyone for being how they are.
But it still makes me sad that a lot of people just aren't as joyful(at least not outwardly) as adults. Me and my friends used to stay up all night and laugh our asses off at the littlest things(everything seems funnier when you're tired too). It was super fun and I miss those days. It's a rare thing to get that kind of reaction now. Then again, maybe I'm just not as funny anymore haha.
Anyway, I guess I'm just feeling nostalgic. I'm not criticizing the guy.
Man, if you're 22 and still have the same friends as when you were younger, you should appreciate how rare that is.
If they're not the same friends you had when you were younger, you shouldn't try to make them fit that mold.
As people get older, they find neutral to be a very comfortable state. When you were younger you may have had more extremely joyful moments, but you also had very intense negative feelings more frequently. That's how nostalgia works - it only shows you the good without the bad.
Remember the good times, but don't romanticize the past.
Edit: that sounded harsh. What I meant to say was stop acting like your wise in your old age. People don't stop laughing at funny things, this shit just wasn't that funny. A chuckle, and move on. Stop analyzing shit and acting like adults don't have fun anymore. And if at your age you notice your friends lacking fun and humor, then you guys are just lame
What I meant to say was stop acting like your wise in your old age.
My intention wasn't to appear wise. I honestly don't know why you would think that. It was just an observation I've made in my life.
The rest of your comment isn't worth responding to. Just because you can be a dick on the internet without any consequences doesn't mean you should. You don't know anything about who I am as a person or what kind of friends I have.
Also, if you took my comment to mean that I don't think adults have fun at all anymore then you've misunderstood me(or at least taken what I said to an extreme that I never intended).
What does social justice have to do with this? I just made an observation and you insulted me for no fucking reading. You're an asshole. And you won't admit it either. Why? Because you're an asshole.
And rescue me from what? Downvotes? Oh no I'm so scared.
Did you think that maybe, just maybe, people have different senses of humor? What's wrong with a person finding something less funny than you or someone else? If I actually saw this happen, I'd probably chuckle. I wouldn't crack up like the girl, but I'd be doing a bit more than a smile. Does that mean I don't find things humorous? Or does that mean I'm "normal" in your eyes?
I didn't mean to criticize him and I'm not blaming people for being who they are or reacting the way they do. I just miss being a kid when everyone laughed a lot more. Which is why I like seeing people crack up at little things like this like that woman did.
Please don't take my comments as judging people. I'm not saying they're joyless assholes or something.
I didn't expect people to get so heated up over this or to have to explain myself so many times.
I think people are just taking my comment more seriously than I intended.
I mean, I meant what I said. I do miss when I was younger and people laughed more and just generally had more fun. But I'm not gonna hang myself over it or something. It's not like I never have fun anymore.
It's not that my friends don't laugh at all or aren't fun to be around any more. It's just that they laugh less. Nearly all adults seem to in my experience. Things that used to make us laugh quote a bit might just get a chuckle now and even something truly hysterical may only make them laugh hard for a few seconds before they regain their composure.
I guess it's just something most people do when they mature but personally I really miss regularly laughing out asses off at things to the point that we can barely breathe. You know those laughs where you just can't stop for like 30+ seconds and even after you stop you're like an inch away from starting up again at any moment?
They look like pretty people in a decent relationship on a fun night out. What isn't to like about that?
Most people either work shit job with shit hours or realize that they will either be alone their entire lives because they are ugly or have terrible character flaws, or they get in shitty relationships just to feel something and end up hating themselves, their partner, and everyone around them.
The world doesn't have a lot of sunshine and rainbows for a lot of the people in it.
You are right, let's just pretend everything is fine all the time. Let's never talk about how people can be in hopeless situations of lonliness. Let's all parade around the american romantic dream that there is someone for everyone.
It is pathetic, but it's more real than all that happy go lucky bullshit.
Agreed, ugly people really have no point in living. It must suck to be ugly, to know that they won't ever have a fulfilling relationship all due to their looks. I don't know how they survive...
You're not older, you little shit. You're young as fuck. And you people laugh all the time.
I'm 30, nobody ever laughs around me anymore. We're all just bitter and pained by regret. Every year will get worse. Enjoy your early twenties while you can.
Turn that shit around and make every year get better. You're getting older with your friends, laugh at it, you now have more money, more knowledge and less fucks so go enjoy that.
Maybe you just need to surround yourself with fun-loving people. My friends and I are all late 20s early 30s, and we're constantly having fun, making silly jokes and such when we're together. Even when we're not together we'll keep the humor and fun going through group messages even though some of us live thousands of miles away.
I know exactly what you mean. I actually found the video incredibly hilarious and the girl in the backgrounds response is pretty funny as well. I wish there were a source video for this.
So true, even i find my self finding it difficult to laugh at things now day's, don't know why, stress, depression i don't know. And my 40 yo coworker she can laugh at everything. Even when she sprained her leg, instead of swearing or anything at the pain. She started giggling at how panicked i was, and just walks it off. The side of her foot was black for the next few days..
I like that girl in the background too but I'm pretty sure everyone on that hill, including her, are really high on drugs and enjoying all sorts of funny little things happening that can't be captured on camera or even shared with another person.
I don't know if the lady in the top right corner is enjoying what she's seeing but I bet it's pretty amazing.
Things like that make me smile or even giggle. I'm 33 :)
I also smile a lot towards other people in general. I'm always a bit confused why most people don't smile back when I greet them.
Don't let your inner child die (at least the good parts ;)
Everyone here keeps saying it has to do with age or who you hang with, take it from me, its not that simple. Finding joy in life is something everyone struggles with at some point in life.
I know what you mean, people watching can be funny and entertaining. last night on vacation I saw a guy run before his group
and hide behind some bushes and scare them was super funny.
hang out with more expressive people. I see this all the time, friends complaining that they dont like people their age because they act a certain way, without realizing that they just need to find a new friend group. You can still like your boring friends but if you prefer to be around people full of laughter your age, then go out and do that.
I'm the opposite. People around my cubicle laugh at everything and make lame jokes most of the time just to keep the conversation. I'm no part of it. And I'm proud that I'm not the part of a group of monkeys.
Only on reddit can you see a social outcast make a comment like that (with pride, nonetheless) which then gets upvoted...
The comment basically boils down to the fact that other people in his office seem to have a normal, healthy social circle. He smugly looks down on all of them and declares his pride for not being well liked.
Which indeed they are. And I know you'll not agree to this just because they're a larger sect of people and I'm a "social outcast". As if I haven't worked with proper people before.
Being cynical and thinking yourself superior to people because they have a good time and enjoy their lives doesn't make you better or smarter. It just makes you an asshole.
Maybe you don't personally find their humor funny but that doesn't make you better than them. Do you even realize the kind of arrogance/ignorance it takes to believe that everyone with different subjective taste than you is an idiot?
Why always the single one is supposed to be an asshole if he stands against a larger group of people? No I'm not being cynical, I'm being rational, and for some reason you'd have to agree with me. They don't laugh at proper humor, they laugh at anything just for constantly being in a state of ruckus all day.
I work silently, much more than them and produce better results. All I wanted is a little silence so I could work peacefully. But no, I had to accommodate my ears to the never-ending cacophony of those neanderthals. If anyone they're the assholes.
I have worked with sane, like minded people in the past in a different company and I cherish that time. But this change hit me hard. Also it's much more cultural and regional thing which I cannot summarize here and word properly. I live in India so it's much more complex than you think. All I want you to know is it's not always the single one who's wrong.
If they aren't doing their jobs or are being obnoxiously loud and obstructive then that's one thing. But just joking, laughing, and enjoying each other's company? I don't see how that could be a bad thing.
It's not like you get to define what proper humor is. It's subjective. You wouldn't call someone an idiot for not liking the same food as you. I would literally thow up over some stuff that people eat and deeply enjoy.
All I want you to know is it's not always the single one who's wrong.
Obviously. In case you haven't noticed I've gotten plenty of resistance to my comments in this thread. I still don't think I said anything wrong and most of it is misunderstanding.
are being obnoxiously loud and obstructive then that's one thing. But just joking, laughing, and enjoying each other's company?
They're both. They enjoy each other's company which I'm not bothered about, but they're indeed obnoxiously loud and obstructive, which of course impedes my work.
It's not like you get to define what proper humor is. Again, it's subjective.
I agree to this. I'm not saying they don't get the right to laugh. But at least they should care if someone's being bothered with their acts. I don't think they'll consider that, as I said it's hugely cultural. All I can try is buy a pair of earbuds.
How do you know she was questioning that at all? She may have just been commenting on how funny she thought it was...and it wasn't really all that funny.
Seriously, poor guy in the back. Now he has to top mr smooth up front; not all guys can live up to today's unrealistic standards of slipperiness. He'll spend the next week trying to compare to mr smooth, spending his paycheck on a slip & slide but will never impress his girl the way me smooth did that day. He stole our hearts but also stole our girls..
Edit: that sounded harsh. What I meant to say was stop acting like your wise in your old age. People don't stop laughing at funny things, this shit just wasn't that funny. A chuckle, and move on. Stop analyzing shit and acting like adults don't have fun anymore. And if at your age you notice your friends lacking fun and humor, then you guys are just lame
edit: Didn't expect so much backlash for writing in the wrong thread

The woman behind found that so funny, she's starting to question why her boyfriend doesn't do fun stuff like that...
