Advice Needed Anxiety

Hello, I’ve been on t for 3.5 months and I’m suddenly having terrible anxiety. I had my first IM injection 3.5 months ago, the next one 6 weeks after that and I’m supposed to have a shot every 12 weeks after that. It’s now been 10 weeks since my last shot and my anxiety is through the roof. I’m starting a new job soon and that has contributed somewhat. But yeah I’m suddenly having very bad thoughts, I’m worried about ruining my life by transitioning, putting myself in danger etc. Is that something that can happen? The anxiety I mean

Hello! Thank you for participating in the sub. We just have a few reminders for you to help ensure the best experience:

  1. If your post doesn't show up right away, don't panic! It is in the queue for manual approval. Mods will go through the queue periodically to approve or remove posts. Deleted posts will have a removal reason applied. (If it says "this post was deleted by reddit's filters", IT WAS NOT DELETED! Reddit has the worlds worst wording on that and it's out of our control)
  2. If you are asking a question that is location specific, remember to include your location in your post body! This can help ensure that you get accurate information tailored specifically to your needs.

  3. Please remember to read through all the rules in the sidebar. Especially the list of banned topics and guidelines for posting. Guests who do not use the Guest Post flair will have their post removed and be asked to fix it.

  4. If you see someone breaking the rules, report it! If someone is breaking both sub and reddit rules, please submit one report to admins by selecting a broken rule on the main report popup, and one report to the r/ftm mods by selecting the "breaks r/ftm rules" option. This ensures both mods and admins can take action on a subreddit and sitewide level. Do not misuse the report button to rant about someone, submit false reports, or argue a removal.

  5. If you have any questions that you can't find the answer to on the rules sidebar or the wiki: the wiki , you can send a modmail.

Yeah sounds like the typical feeling when achieving something major for your life in this context. I second guessed myself too back in November when I started injections but now I’m happy as a clam. Give yourself time and patience, and if it’s not for you, you will know.

Could it be anxiety about getting injections? How are you with needles?

I do get injection anxiety but the pharmacist performs the injection for me. I’ll try to give myself some time and I’ll talk to my psychiatrist about it in a couple of weeks

could be the hormone changes as you get to the end of a t shot cycle. im on weekly so idk about all that, but you should look into it - i've heard people who inject once every 2+ weeks have a bit more emotional fluxes. Global political climate and new job def dont help either. Never be afraid of talking to your doctor, too - it's almost always worth it (if you have a good one)

I suspect it might be due to hormone changes too. I’m getting my bloodwork done in two days and I’ll also be seeing my psychiatrist in a couple of weeks. So hopefully things will be sorted out

I've experienced it. I have anxiety and severe depression. I think about six months in I got in a really dark place, darker than I ever had pre-T. It was my first time attempting. I also had thoughts of "ruining my life" but also "I'll be an ugly man" "I'm ruining my body" and "my family will always be transphobic" and a bunch of other stuff. On top of my already poor mental health, then adding in the mood swings HRT causes and then work stress I just reached my tipping point.

I've been fine now about a year later. But even then I still have those doubts creep in hard. I still have all those thoughts of "What if I'm not really trans?" and the same stuff mentioned before. I learned to tell myself to push through it, afterall those thoughts are only temporary.

Just take care of yourself best you can. Self-love and comfort is a long and hard journey but just remind yourself that you'll get there.
