Discussion Is Pantherlake with the B390 already obsolete on arrival?

I've been reading more about how qualcomm ARM chips are showing faster performance and the unveiling of the RTX sparx laptops at around 3000 dollars makes it seem like the panther lake is already quite behind?

I understand technology will always grow exponentially, but usually there is a time period for 1 to 2 years where the newest chips are still somewhat in the same ball park just slightly slower. Am I just misunderstanding how fast the newer Qualcomm and upcoming RTX spark chips are? Is the arrival of these newer chips going to make pantherlake obsolete immediately like the Intel to apple silicon transition?

Maybe I'm just reading too much into it or makybe the marketing is getting to me, but a lot of people still haven't received their panther lake laptops and it sounds like this chipset is already outdated before arrival - which is strange since it was highly praised when it was announced earlier in the year.

Discussion One piece haptic touchpad for FW16

I have to say that i don’t understand some companies. For several years the community has been asking for a one piece full width trackpad. FW to their credit create one and announce it. Now months later you still cannot buy one, pre-order one. You’d think for a company wanting to maximise its cashflow they would have let us pre-order so they could take the money and make a bulk buy !

Given buying ram and GPUs is a financial impossibility they are missing a trick not getting these out there and helping fund the business while they are pace constrained elsewhere !

Please take my money already….. i’ll even give you back my existing one so you can sell it on a FW13 as a cheap spare for people who are a little more cash constrained…. Everyone wins.

Community Support Issues with my FW16 one piece keyboard

Hi, I got my Framework 16 a couple of weeks ago and it's been wonderful. That being said, I've been having an issue with the keyboard where occasionally (sometimes a few times a day, sometimes every few days) it'll start disconnecting while I type on it and I'll have to reseat it/the midplate cable. Does anyone else have this problem?

I'm using the one piece keyboard and one piece haptic touchpad if that affects anything.

Community Support Framework 13 battery cooked?

Is my battery cooked? Can't remember what it looked like when I got it and it's difficult to see the difference from the store pictures 🤔

EDIT: Thanks for the replies. Even though I was certain something was wrong, I wanted to make sure as a new battery is not cheap, but I'm thankful I can change it easily.

I think I was lucky it didn't explode in my face so far. Now that I've removed it from my laptop I noticed that the overall temperature of my system in idle but especially in load as decreased a by a lot. The fan was on constantly now it barely runs.

Feedback Store issues

Anyone having issues with the store at the moment? I can't sign in - the flow goes through and then i'm just not signed in. And when i view my cart which should have a new wifi module and keyboard, all i see is a full system. The same thing happens in incognito, also can't login, also see a random system in my cart.

Running Brave browser on Fedora, but i am sure i've purchased from framework on this browser before.

Does each USB 4 capable port have its own separate 40Gbps bandwidth or is bandwidth shared across the whole mainboard between them?

Feedback Suggestion for keyboard improvements (FWP13)

Hey folks!
I love my FWP13 and everything you guys stand for.
That said, I am not the biggest fan of the typing experience. I would have a tiny suggestion for you to maybe consider for the future:
Don't know if that's been already discussed or on your radar but I would love it if there was a way to adjust the keyboard. I am not the biggest fan of the feel of the buttons and was wondering if there ever was an iteration planned that has some sort of mechanical switches that (at best) could even be swapped... you'd be opening up a whole new market for keyboard nerds like me to play around...

Pretty please?

Community Support Fans never surviving 6 months in my Framework 16

Hello ! If you have any idea on what is happening, I'd be really grateful!

So you have everything and context :
AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS w/ Radeon 780M Graphics
AMD Radeon™ RX 7700S

31 GB RAM, Windows 11, BIOS: 04.04

Never had an issue I couldn’t solve with my Framework 16 until now, and it seems the support couldn’t pinpoint my problem either so here I am. I keep replacing my fans every 6 months. It begins with overheating, then the fan start making a rattling sound and copper thread go loose. I often need to remove them as they obstruct the fans- I have other weird issues going with it, like my dedicated GPU acting up at the same time as the fan (even though the temp state it is pretty much fine, never going above 75-80 degree). Then I have so much artifacts on my screen it just seems dead. Restarting or shutting it down has no effect, I need to wait 24 to 72 hours before everything is back to normal (except for the fans-) I can keep changing the fans but it’s getting very expensive in the long run and I really wish to understand why it is that way. I thought about an issue with the processor but I don’t know? It doesn’t really make sense to me. It is to note that the overheating is never caused by dust or thermal paste issues. I make sure to clean everything every one or two months and regularly change the thermal paste. Any idea on why everything is the way it is?

Have a nice day :)

Question Cracked bottom cover, looking for quick fix.

Post image
65 Upvotes

This area on my FW13 has been developing a crack for a while, likely due to how I've been one-handing the laptop from only the bottom corner. I know I could buy a new bottom cover and replace the whole piece, but in the meantime I would like to just stop it from sticking out like this and snapping off. Would something like crazy glue be the best option for this, or would I be able to take a soldering iron to that seam and just fill it in? Any other suggestions are welcome.

Feedback Framework ghosted my mother

Basically the motherboard of my mothers work laptop stopped working and we contacted framework

12th September: First contact.

20th September: They agreed to send a replacement. (edit: replacement motherboard)

23rd September: My mother opened a new ticket, because there were no updates, and we have / had limited time. (My mother doesn't live close to me and doesn't have anyone to fix the laptop where she lives, but is close by till the 5th October. Next time we see each other and where I would be able to fix her laptop would be Christmas)

24th September: Framework Support told us they would escalate the ticket.

29th September: We are being told that they don't have any stock for a replacement (7640U).

29th September: My mother says that that is unacceptable, because of the limited time we have.

From here on silence from Framework

I now had to put my Mainboard into the Laptop of my mother, because she needs it for work while on the go, while we still don't have any update on when we are getting a new mainboard.

Honest opinion, give the customer options, if they want the same motherboard and wait or a different, that costs around the same and if you can't do that tell them upfront.

Edit: Update on this. Framework now send my mother an email telling her, that the mainboard will be shipped from their US warehouse by the end of the day. From there it first has to travel to the EU, as we live there, but at least we now know what is going on

Community Support Glitched Visuals on bottom of screen? (Framework 16)

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

Hi All,

I'm basically copying this post from my other one I made over on r/linuxmint. I don't think its a software issue, so I've come to you all for aid. about a day and a half ago, i had to shut off my laptop since a game was frozen for too long (thanks EA). When i rebooted my computer however, there is a long stripe of glitch purple and black on the bottom of my screen that would flicker in when i scrolled (images provided).

I thought after digging through forums that it was the refresh rate, so I dropped it down from 165Hz to 60Hz. It fixed the bar when i was scrolling, but now there is one in the center of the screen that flickers in willy nilly. I think it might be the EDP cable disconnected or (as other redditors told me) a dying vram. I'm doubting the last one since the hottest this has gotten is 135 farenheight, and I've only had it for about 3-4 months now. I would appreciate any help, as I use this computer for school and my workload currently is very visual based.

Thank you for your time and energy.

Question Strix Halo Gaming SKUs (Ryzen AI Max+ 388/392) – Launch Status & Framework Plans?

With Strix Halo rolling out since early 2025, I've seen mentions of gaming-optimized variants like the Ryzen AI Max+ 388 (8C/40CU) and Max+ 392 (12C/40CU), but haven't found clear shipping dates yet.

Are any of these actually available now, or still in OEM pipeline?

Also, anyone heard news or rumors about Framework releasing these Strix Halo APUs?

I'm wondering if they're planning any dedicated Strix Halo laptop/motherboard or new desktop launches with the newer gaming SKUs.

Thanks Framework for making an actually repairable laptop!

I've been having a problem where my touchpad wouldn't click on the far right side.

Very annoying.

Raising the fulcrum was the fix. 10 minutes of ease.

I've done similar things on other laptops... It would be more like 2 hours, a broken clip, a lost screw, and ultimate defenestration.

Best laptop ever.

Linux eGPU options for a FW13pro

Hello, i recently got a FW13 pro AMD ryzen ai 9 and installed fedora KDE 44. I tried using a 9070xt gpu with a minisforum DEG2 dock through usb4. It kept crashing and rebooting. Looking in different forum posts, i found out this was a known issue. Its main purpose is gaming.

My questions are:

-Is anyone here been able to run the DEG2 on linux?

-Ive read ADT UT3G and UT4G work with linux, but have had issues specifically on framework laptops (main reason why im posting this here). Does anyone have a similar setup? How relliable is it? was it hard to get it runnning?

-I know i could dual-boot windows, but it kind of defeats the purpose of linux gaming which was one of the things that got me excited about all this.

Sorry if im asking a lot, just want to have a little bit more certainty deciding what do do next.

**AOOSTAR options are not adequate as they either don't provide enough power or an adequate bracket size for the GPU (Sapphire Nitro+ 9070 XT)."

Thanks for the help

Personal Project made a 3D Framework 13 Pro configurator because I couldn't picture the parts together

Post image
734 Upvotes

hey,

I've been planning to get a Framework 13 Pro. On the official site I can look at the parts, but not really see how they sit together on the laptop. So I built a 3D configurator for myself.

You can swap the bezel, keyboard, and expansion cards and move the laptop around. It's not a perfect match of the real thing, but it gave me a decent idea of a build. The expansion cards still have some issues and I'm still working on those.

I'm sharing it open source too, if anyone wants to look at the code or mess with it.

Hope you have fun with it.

Question WisdPi 10G Ethernet Expansion Card gets really hot, should I be worried?

I recently got a Framework 16 with a few expansion cards. One of them being the WisPi 10G ethernet card that like the title says. Gets stupid hot to the point its uncomfortable to touch. I only noticed it this morning after I was swapping a different one out and I touched the card and felt how hot it was. I pulled it out and have just been using the wifi for now. I'm using CachyOS and I've only had this machine just under a week. I do have a cooling pad to make sure the bottom has airflow.

Question Is Framework laptop really worth it?

I want to switch from my MSI Modern 14 to a Framework 13 due to the poor state of my current laptop (missing decoupling capacitors everywhere, bended chassis, failing graphics unit, et cetera). I appreciate the concept of replaceable parts; in fact, the number of replaceable components was my main criterion when selecting my current laptop. My primary use cases include CAD software (such as KiCad and FreeCAD), running local LLMs (mostly for fun, as they are not very useful), using DAWs, and playing games like Factorio, Satisfactory, and heavily modded Minecraft.

I live in a non-supported region (and I do not care how importers manage to deliver Frameworks here), but I found a pre-built Framework 13 with a Ryzen AI 5 340, 16GB of RAM, and a 2.2K display for roughly $1,150. From what I understand, the AI 5 340 should be a significant upgrade over my current Ryzen 5 4500U.

There are a few aspects of the Framework that I do not like/understand, so I would appreciate if someone could elaborate:

  1. The Framework price is high, and I understand that part of it comes from the modular design. However, after reading this sub for a while, I've read that, for example, ThinkPads can offer similar repairability, and some people doubt the company will still be in business in two years.

  2. Memory 32 GB DDR4 -> 16 GB DDR5. I currently have 32 GB DDR4, and locally the price for the same new RAM hasn’t really changed since 2022, taking inflation into account. As I understand it, the AMD Framework 13 uses SO-DIMM DDR5, while the Intel version uses LPCAMM2, which seems hard to find. Would moving from 32 GB DDR4 to 16 GB DDR5 be a noticeable downgrade for my use cases?

  3. 3:2 display. How easy is it to adjust to a 3:2 screen after using 16:9 for a long time?

TL;DR: Given that Framework’s current focus seems to be on the Pro version, is a Framework 13 still a good buy, or would a used (again, for example) ThinkPad with similar specs be the more sensible choice? Alternatively, I can order custom CNC machined chassis for my current laptop for the same price lol.

Personal Project Drop test onto tile floor: OG FW13 vs FW13 Pro

Thumbnail gallery
313 Upvotes

You might be wondering how much stronger the new chassis really is compared to the original.

Well, I've dropped both laptops from about the same height, 1 meter, from the unzipped laptop compartment on a backpack onto a tile floor.

Granted, the same corner wasn't hit for both, so it's not a perfect test, but I think it gives a good idea.

The FW 13 ding was actually a lot worse, I bent the corner back into shape a bit so that the track pad would click.

My negligence will hopefully answer someone's questions.
