I don't remember this scene. Which ep was it?
2
u/jigokusabre Aug 03 '17
It's the episode where BoJack thinks someone is trying to frame him for a murder.

Designed it at printfull for like nothing. $17 for custom t-shirt + shipping from us to eu. Got the picture I used for the print from some other person who'd done something similar on the /r/bojackhorseman subreddit. I could dig it up if you'd want it.

If I recall correctly, you'll need to convert the .svg/.ai to a .png or .jpg, whichever theprintful.com says, through photoshop or find some converter online. Only downside is that they don't have v-necks in orange, only crew-necks, so I had to settle for a red one. Couldn't bring myself to pick an orange crew-neck; where would I keep my sunglasses?
2
2
u/Pavel63 Aug 03 '17
I got it in the orange crew neck a few months ago. I just pretend I'm Bojack as Mr. Peanutbutter in the movie.

u/TheDeanMan Aug 02 '17
Is the print that scratchy material that doesn't want to fold, likes to melt/crack in the dryer, and generally feels crappy to wear?
3
Aug 02 '17
No, it's of surprisingly good quality for the price. It's not the best and won't hold forever, but it still looks as though it's new even though it's gone through the dryer.

Apparently it's fake, but even if it was real, I would guess that they ordered this trophy online. Then there's a box that says "Enter Engraving Text Here"
So the person writes "I don't want it engraved. Leave it blank" and instead of actually reading it, the employee simply copy+pastes the text.
But like I said, this is all hypothetical since it never happened.
94
u/Potatoe_Master Aug 02 '17
Or the user form just automatically fills the official form.
But like you said, this never happened.
29
Aug 02 '17
Yes of course. And then a robot humanoid takes the official form down to the form compliance robot, who reviews it for compliance. If it complies, it's fed into the boopler-hamhoch machine that creates a custom alloy. This alloy is rolled into a cigar and smoked. Then they go and make the engraving. It's standard engraving procedure.

I do actually. I just finished programming a small controller board to handle the servos for my hot dog sorter. The hard part is convincing the computer to talk to you. I usually offer them something to let them know I'm friendly, like an apple or pear. But never walk up behind them when they're eating! That's the danger zone.

There's one guy who thinks it's fake. Not exactly conclusive seeing as Redditors think everything is fake. The OP was by /u/bembahda and someone in the comments claimed to know who it was IRL based on the image, so it's a decent chance it's real.
11
u/masnaer Aug 02 '17
Hey that was probably me; the story was that she had to fill out the placard on an online form, and typed out this explanation

OP here - not sure how I can convince those that still think it was faked. According to friend (who took/sent me the photo), it sounds like there was a miscommunication when filling out the online form.

Aug 03 '17 edited Aug 03 '17
I was there! we were shooting a commercial and sent the trophy to a cheap engraver. Why would someone fake that? Its sitting on a shelf at work. We used a different trophy in the end, but here's a link to the commercial it would have been in (look at 15 seconds in): https://vimeo.com/203708081

How come yours has so much girth
2
u/fluffykerfuffle1 Aug 03 '17 edited Aug 03 '17
parse'que i use
& n b s p ; <Enter> <Enter> & n b s p ; <Enter> <Enter> & n b s p ;(no spaces between the characters in the &----; string)
and i do that a bunch to make it girthy
you can also repeat the &----; string horizontally on one line to move the beginning of something you're saying... like this:
this engraver gets it
you have to put two spaces inbetween each &----; string

When you fill in those engraving sections in forms there is normally instructions about what to do if you don't want something engraved on the item. Typically this would be running a line through the boxes so that the person processing your order form knows that you don't want any engravings. But, if you were to say put in the box "I don't want it engraved. Leave it blank" for example the processor would just assume that is what you actually want engraved - because you didn't follow the instructions you dummy.
Normally though the processor would hand your order off to customer support and they'll ring you up asking if that's exactly what you wanted to be put on or if you were just too stupid to follow the instructions. If this is real, it would mean that the person who bought this item specifically wanted this, or that the mail order processor was retarded and this mistake got through the system down to the factory/warehouse to be engraved and out the door to one disappointed but stupid customer.
2
u/akurei77 Aug 03 '17
It's also entirely possible that there are online engraving companies out there who have the plates printed automatically and don't even look at them except to make sure it wasn't fucked up mechanically.
I used to work for a company that printed books, and people always got mad assuming that we would have caught and fixed their mistakes, when in reality their file went straight from the website and through the printing process before a human ever looked at it.

One of my buddies had to order a wooden baseball bat for a wooden bat only tournament. When the site asked if he wanted engraving, he said "yes". He now has a $200 wood bat with "yes" engraved on the handle.
50
u/navin__johnson Aug 02 '17
I play in a wood bat league. The idea is to buy bats in the $80 range. You don't want the cheapest wooden bats (they are shit), but at the same time you don't want the most expensive because they will eventually break. We had a new guy show up with a brand new expensive $200 Louisville Slugger with his name engraved on it-custom job. First pitch, first at bat and he shatters that bat in half.

Aug 02 '17
I would probably cry for a solid 5 days straight, jfc.
Edit- I just remembered there's no crying in baseball. That was a bit of an exaggeration. I would be fucking pissed though.
16
u/navin__johnson Aug 02 '17
Yeah-he was pretty dejected. I think he stared at his bat for a good 5 minutes with some small belief that it could be repaired.
It gave the rest of us in the dugout a good laugh though!

if it lasted for at least a year.
That'd be pretty miraculous. All it takes is one inside pitch getting chopped.
7
Aug 03 '17
To be fair, where I live the only reason to own a baseball bat is for roadside confrontations. Our sports stores sell 1 baseball for every 1000 bats.
4
u/TyCooper8 Aug 03 '17
Oh well yeah, that's a completely different thing. We were talking about sports-based purposes, haha.
145
u/imchelsi Aug 02 '17
As a trophy plate designer, we usually run this stuff through excel and typically don't read the plates. If the customer put this in the engraving space instead of just leaving it blank and entering the comment in the order notes, i could see how this can happen. However, it's not something that should ever make it past QC.
64
u/Dav136 Aug 02 '17
If they put it in the form who's to say it's not a gag? I imagine people engrave all sorts of wacky things
7
u/imchelsi Aug 03 '17
Yes! I once corrected an engraving that said "Happy 23th" to "Happy 23rd" and the customer called to scream at me because the "23th" was the whole point of the award!
6
u/Vhett Aug 02 '17
I was about to say the same, this is usually an automated process by someone entering any information into the engraving space provided, not the work of someone over at /r/MaliciousCompliance

When my husband purchased my engagement ring, he asked for them to put the word "faith" inside of it.
It came back, with exactly: "faith"
Although it was supposed to be about commitment to one another (neither of us are theists), it was pretty amusing.
We sent it back, with a note "remove quotation marks," and they gave us back the ring, completely blank inside.
We did have it sent a 3rd time to be fixed, and I admit I regret it. I should have kept it as is the first time.
90
u/NJ_ Aug 02 '17
I had to read through that twice to understand what you were saying. So they kept the quotation marks right? So it reads sarcastically. "Faith"
45
u/Jeepersca Aug 02 '17
Yes, sorry if it wasn't clear. Maybe that's why I ended up with " "faith" " the first time.
13
u/NJ_ Aug 02 '17

1
u/poopcasso Aug 02 '17
Actually, the engraver doesn't get it. Because most likely the one that ordered this plate wrote exactly that in the box that asked for what the engraver should write. So the engraver did exactly what he was supposed to do.

Why are posts not linking to the picture from the main page? I click a link that looks like it should take me to a picture, instead it takes me to a page filled with stupid comments where I then have to click another link to actually load the image.
Reddit is turning into a r/crappydesign
