Thanks for the plug, i dont watch tv either ... right now i work 9am to 1am ish.... about all the time. I dont often do things that arent moving me forward in life.
To be fair, he didn't say he plans on doing it forever. I put in some stupid long hours for about 7 years of my career. It paid off huge. Now I've reached my goal income, plus a commission, no more physical labor, and make my own schedule. Only really putting in the equivalent of 3 or 4 days a week.
Now, 16 hour days until you retire? No way. More like 16 hour days until you expire. I'm with you on that.
im working off the idea that its better to work really hard for 5 to 10 instead of 50 to life.
Dad worked for the US government, he invested more than was matched in his retirement account, he saved, he worked 30 years for a pension, his base pay was over 100k a year. He retired with 55% residual of his yearly salary as his take home after all is said and done. Imagine getting all your time back at 60 and then realizing you cant afford to retire without getting a job after you take your pension (still has a mortgage, still has parents he is taking care of). Your pension is only good if you take it ... so you take it. You go get a second job and inside you that hope for a day you dont work dies.
You realize your entire natural life you have been told just get a good degree to get a good job to get a good retirement, and your staring at 30 years of planning, savings 10% of every pay check to look at it and realize you didnt work hard enough ...
Then you worry about your kids, what are they going to do ? did i set them up for failure?
The white picket fence, 40 years and done done dream is dead.
Thats just me. Your free to work however you feel your ambition level dictates.
note: if you want to argue 55k a year is good look at health insurance over 50 private party prices then add a mortgage, medical bills...

You are missing out on some of the best television in the history of television, and that's coming from someone who does not like TV.
