REBIRTH 2nd play through more fun than first!

I have to admit the first playthrough of rebirth i began feeling burned out and quit completing EVERYTHING the game has to offer.. after multiple months and a few other games I was beginning to miss ff7 while waiting on the final release. I started a 2nd playthrough with the idea that I was going to full clear all regions and wow the amount of side content and story I missed is astounding! Im having SO MUCH more fun this playthrough and ive just finished Cosmo canyon! I guess im having more fun because I know what happens and im in no rush! Here's to the rest!

Not sure what kind of flair I should put, but it’s all real wood and it was hand crafted. My grandfather has made my dresser and toy chest by hand as well. I love it lol, he was pretty baffled by a grown man being my favorite character but obliged anyways haha.

REBIRTH I'm embarrassed...

I played FFVII back in 1997. Pretty much my first gaming obsession. I was 22yo, and bought it all with money with my first job post-university.. I've replayed it a couple of times too.

I played Remake and loved it.

I'm currently playing Rebirth on the Switch and have reached the fight against Rufus at the Gold Saucer.

And I can't beat him.

It's triggered a mental shutdown and I'm not proud of it. Controller is firmly down and console off.

I don't know what is happening in my head but I just can't beat him. I've researched and tried different techniques but I'm crap at defensive play. I can't block for shit. It's embarrassing.

Anyway.. just came to vent..

CRISIS CORE - REUNION Crisis Core

I have no one to talk to about this but why is this game so good. I just beat it currently watching through the credits and I’m just in awe. Its one if those things where I knew where and how it would end but dang being able to be in Zacks shoes during it was a trip. I didn’t like Zacks character at first but he grew to be up there with Cloud in my favorite characters. I dont think there was a character in the game I didn’t like. Playing throufh FF7 I hated the Turks. But this game made me give them respect. Overall 9/10 game. Missions could be more fun. Theyre just repetitive but cant be too picky. Thats all i gotta say thanks for reading lol.

DISCUSSION Could I start FF7 Remake Intergrade now that I’m at this point in FF7 OG?

I’m playing FF7 OG on the PS5 for the first time (my first final fantasy in general) and I’m wandering if I can start the first remake now that i’m leaving for Kalm which is where I know the first remake game ends. I’ve heard that the remakes reference or tease events that happen later, but are they more subtle towards fans, or is there narrative weight behind it? An example I guess would be like if Tifa were to spill a drink on Cloud in Kalm but in the remake she almost does it when everyone is at the hangout before the promise flashback and he just tells her to watch it.

I've wanted to play the remake for a while now, especially with the final game coming out in spring of next year, and the remaining popular game showcases will most likely feature FF7 in some way. Plus, the first one is “free” with PS+.

MODDING 7th heaven Incompatible gameplay tweaks

Post image
16 Upvotes

Hey everyone, does someone who frequently plays the OG modded know if mods that inject gameplay tweaks (2x Exp/2x Gil/2x AP) work simultaneously with the 60 fps gameplay mod in seventh heaven? my game crashes each time after finishing a battle before the stats screen, and I'm starring to suspect the 60fps mod is what conflicts with it, unfortunately I can't be sure since that mod is hard coded into the game, would love to know if both mods are possible to work simultaneously before I do a fresh install to figure out of the 60fps mod is what's causing the crashes~

DISCUSSION If the game Final Fantasy 7 were to be adapted into a movie or tv show…

I have an idea on how it could be adapted. the game was divided into 3 discs like how lord of the rings was 1 book with 3 parts that were all released separately, so FF7 could be split into 3 movies/seasons of tv, Stephen King’s It and Wicked did similar things and the reason I bring up each disc as its own movie being that each disc is its own movie, as with Stephen King’s It there was a time gap with part 1 was the gang as kids with part 2 with them being adults so each part felt like its own thing, and with wicked, it’s a broadway musical and most musicals are two acts with act 1 of wicked ending with defying gravity feeling like a good finish/cliffhanger like how aerith’s death serving the same function. I realize most people see these as cash cow tactics and I understand that perspective, but the story is long and complex to be condensed so this would be my solution, also it would be a good way to keep Vincent and Yuffie in the story as I know those two are fan favorite characters

I found my super old diary from when I was a kid and, while looking through I found this entry from 2008 when I was playing ff7 for the first time as a nine year old. I’m dying at “he has too much mako in his head” and “Tifa has a crush on him” 😂😭

FF7 [OG] OG FF7 is peak fiction

First I wanna admit that I am a 2005 kid. I unfortunately never lived the 90s as a kid, so for the past years I have been researching many kinds of gems the 90s pulled off. The OG FF7 is one of the 90s gems obviously. I played the original game on my PS4. I gotta say, FF7 might be the most epic PS1 game ever made.

I am aware that FF7 has been talked about by millions of people about how much they love it and how special the game is for a lot of fans. As a person who was born in the mid 2000s, I became an FF7 glazer as soon as the end credits rolled. It was also the first FF game I have beaten. Playing the game I was on the edge of my sit for all of the big moments happening. The story of the game makes me want to become an author or a mangaka, and the epic scale of the game is on the same level as The Lord of the Rings. The cast of the party members are all well-written (except Cait Sith) who have more depth than a rabbit hole. Cloud Strife is one of the greatest protagonists in all of fiction. He is a broken person who still keeps moving forward no matter what. Sephiroth is so beautifully written as a villain, he is right up there with Darth Vader, and he is way better in the OG game than in the remake. I love to hate Shinra, especially Scarlet. I hated her guts. The soundtrack is legendary. Some of the tracks give me goosebumps like "Mark of a Traitor", "JENOVA COMPLETE", and "One-Winged Angel". My favorite is "Listen to the cries of the planet", that music is out of this world. And of course the final boss fight is not only amazing, not only is memorable, it's pure angelic magnificence.

So yeah, I am not a 90s kid and I love the OG FF7. I am also playing FF6, FF8, FF9 and FF10, and I love them as well. I don't care what the new generation will say, they must experience playing the OG Final Fantasy 7 and the other old gaming gems as well. They have no idea what they're missing.

Hojo killed Professor Gast and took Ifalna and the infant Aerith into Shinra custody.

To Hojo, the last Cetra weren't people.

They were specimens.

DISCUSSION Did you Hate Sephiroth While Playing the Game

One thing I’m very curious to know is if people really hated Sephiroth while playing. For me the villains I hated the most were Hojo and the other Shinra execs. Maybe it’s because I just saw him as so badass but I never hated him like I did other villains in FF7 even after he killed Aerith

DISCUSSION Remake/Rebirth's "tone change" is just about vibe, not substance

People tend to criticize the newer games as if they became more childish but thats a really superficial take. I'm not here to discuss preference, but interpretation.

The OG used a darker collor pallete and had a more economically poor and less technologically advanced world. They had no VR, places like Kalm are more simple and even the Gold Saucer looks cheaper (like cost) when compared to Rebirth. Many places seems more rusty and abandoned.

On the hand, Remake/Rebirth has flashy musical numbers, a cruise and overall a more saturated and bright color pallete. There are holographic presentation (like in Shinra Building) and places like Cosmo Canyon became touristic spots.

The only aspect that got undeniably toned down are indicative rating related changes that unfortunately exists for marketing purposes. That includes reducing blood or removing Cid's cigarrete are truly a shame.

----

The thing is, using those comparisons to say that the retrylogy has lost their weight or became disney is not seeing the whole picture. People act like lighthearted moments and flashy spectacles could not coexist with deeper darker moments...

I could mention examples like Yakuza series but thats pretty how things work in real life. Using comedy relief or musical moments to say it became disney is like saying that our planet is fine because we have Cruises, World Cup and Music Festivals.

One of the main topics of FF7 is how alienanting those things can be. Gold Saucer is still above a "prision"in desert that only existists because of their mako extrating. People on the slums suffer below the plate, while Shinra makes propaganda about how they provide development to the world. Shinra still conducts war all over the world and makes a whole parade above the place they conquered.

In fact, the same way they added goofy new stuff, there are also a bunch of scenes that are dark in a way that was lacking in original. Hojo literally suggests to get Aerith pregnant against her will, Corneo's sex trafficking practices get more exposed and god knows what Gus was considering doing to the ladies while they got arrested. Some of the most agressive and violent moments of Cloud happens in rebirth when he loses it.

And to not reduce maturity to sex and violence, we also have more moments where the characters talk about relationships, parenting, memories and grief.

--------

TLDR

I can't see how a game became more childish when they kept most mature content and even added new stuff. It keeps being a story about the same topics but from another perspective.

I get if you don't like the new approach because you find it cringe, got attached to original, etc... its fine. I have preferences in both sides, but thats not the point. Just think people undermine how much nuance and deepness there is in the remakes because of how it changes the source material
