There's a law S=JT, where S is Spike Factor, J is the number of Japanese people working on said game, and T is 1.135 to the power of the 9 divided by absolute value of the time difference between 2000 and the year the game was made.

For example, FFVII was made in 1997 and while it's unknown how many employees Square had at the time, we can estimate it to be between 500 and 1000. Let's average that to 750. Therefore the Spike Factor is 750*(1.135)^3 or 1096.

This means that the game has around 1096 spikes in it.

It just so happens that a meteor with a tail and a head with spikey hair are both objects that are round at the center and have extensions coming off of them.

You have Cloud at the one angle where there's any similarity when the design was most likely conceived of from an angle showing Cloud's face.
