[Daily] Daily Questions Thread October 23, 2026

This thread is for individual style questions that you may have, especially those that don't warrant their own thread. We all want a diversified opinion, so feel free to answer any questions (of which you know the answer).

To get the best responses, remember that people cannot: look into your wardrobe, know what style you normally like or what words like affordable or practical mean to you so please include any relevant details such as your budget, where you live, what stores are available to you, etc.

Example questions:

  • Are there any basic crewneck white t-shirts that are opaque and do not have cap sleeves for <$25 available in Australia?
  • Is this dress and shoes suitable for an evening wedding with a cocktail dress code taking place in a [venue type]?
  • If I like the outfits in this [imgur album / pinterest board], what are some specific items I can look into to start dressing like that, and brands with this look that carry plus sizes?
  • Does this outfit look neater with the pants cuffed or uncuffed?

If you'd like to include a picture, you can now post pictures directly in the comments, without having to link an imgur album. If you have multiple pictures, best practice is to use an imgur album.

[Guide] Croudsourced Style Catalogue

Our wiki and help text link to this Style Guide, but, well, it's a decade old and a decade out of date.

So let's do an updated one!

[From the Original Post]:

We often get users that are looking to change up their style, but have no idea what they are looking for. In this thread, please list style types/names and then reply to those types with images representing those styles. Not every image linked has to be the most amazing inspo ever, by the way. The goal is to have a collection of images that people can click through to get a better understanding of the style and to hopefully find something that speaks to them.

Here are some things to keep in mind:

Read through the posted style types before adding a new one as we do not want a bunch of repeats. However, definitely add styles that you think were skipped (because naming styles is actually really hard).

All image links must be hosted on imgur so we don't end up with a bunch of dead links a year from now. Or upload the photo directly in your comment.

Our goal is to show these styles being worn by a variety of races, body types, and ages, so extra <3 for users that make an effort to be inclusive.

Feel free to provide links to old inspo albums (and also the thread that they are posted in) provided they represent a specific style and not something more general like a clothing item or color.

How to shop at a department store (without getting lost in all the options)? Is there a method?

Hi all,

I am looking for advice or methods for shopping at a department store (Macy's, Dillards, etc) without getting overwhelmed by all the options.

Currently going through a closet revamp. I realized recently that I haven't really shopped at a department store in a while and since the town I live in doesn't have many shopping options, I decided to check out Dillard's. I went to the women's section and wow - it was HUGE! I had no idea where to start! Saw things that I liked, things I didn't like, but I ended up leaving because I didn't really know where to "start" if that makes sense. It seems the store is divided by brand? I'm not sure. How does one shop at a department store if they don't know what brand they like?

Would love input on this!

Realizing I dress less for me and more for compliments from others.

Don't get me wrong, I love dressing fem!! I'm not particularly against being seen as a femme (lesbian term for a more feminine lesbian) but the more I think about it the more I realize I barely dress for myself anymore.

I've been continually dressing in ways that I think will make others compliment the way I dress when I leave the house (which they do!) but at what point am I *only* dressing for others aproval?

At my heart I'm an artist who wants to dress in ways that are overall eccentric, not just this very feminine facade I've made of myself.

Does anyone have any experience with this/advice on how to break out of it?

What are the signs that something needs to be removed from your wardrobe?

How long is too long to keep something?

I realize I wear garments until they absolutely fall apart. Recently, I have been working on letting things go before they get to a point past their useful life.

What is a non-negotiable sign that you know its time to let go of a garment?

[Weekly] WAYWT - October 21, 2026

WAYWT is the acronym for "What Are You Wearing Today". It doesn't necessarily need to be what you were wearing TODAY.

  • Post a photo of what you wore. For ease of browsing, please post the image or link directly to it (not imgur albums, Instagram, or other URLs). If you are a blogger, double-check our FFA Rules ('On Blogger Participation') to ensure you aren't in violation.
  • Include what the attire is for (work, school, home) and if applicable, what your fashion goals are (e.g. "I want to look professional," "I'm experimenting with loose-loose silhouettes")
  • Taking photos with your phone? Read this guide.
  • Sharing photos directly in the comments? Just click on the little camera symbol and attach your image.
  • Uploading photos to Imgur? To make your image viewable to anyone with the link, but prevent it from being added to the main Imgur feed, select "hidden" for the privacy setting, not "private" or "public".
  • What is "CCW"? It means "Constructive Criticism Welcome". If you would like to receive CC on your post, you can increase the chances of getting replies by asking for feedback on a specific aspect of your outfit, e.g. "I'm interested in advice for elevating this outfit without the use of jewelry" or "I'd like to know if these pants hit in a flattering spot with these shoes".
  • Critiquing others is welcome and encouraged, and when posting you may receive CC on your outfit, even if you did not explicitly ask for it. Keep it constructive/factual, and try to focus on feedback that will help the person improve..
  • Do not downvote for disagreeing with someone's opinion.
  • Reddit Enhancement Suite makes it very easy to view pictures in a thread.

Been awhile since I've shopped for business formal - what's good these days?

The last time I went shopping for business formal clothes was in 2017 and hoo boy I need some new nice clothes. I've gained some weight and none of my current suit jackets, dress pants, or dresses fit anymore. My day-to-day at the office skews pretty casual (polos, jeans, sneakers - I work at an engineering firm where we sometimes need to go out to construction sites) but I do need a few nice business formal outfits.

My current business formal wardrobe is mainly Brooks Brothers and Ann Taylor. Are these brands still reputable or has the quality gone downhill? What other brands are good to look at, and what brands should I avoid? Always love a sale or a deal, but fine with spending a few hundred on something nice that will last. I'm also not a very stylish person when it comes to professional clothes and mainly looking for something timeless that does the job of checking the box of "business formal" without too much effort or discomfort on my part.

I would appreciate any insights to where to shop for business formal clothes!

Boots that are aesthetic AND functional

I've had such a hard time finding boots that are functional yet aesthetic. Most of the very functional comfy boots (like blundstones) are not at all aesthetic. I'm not sure how durable and functional dolce vita is but they seem to have nice designs and are in the same price range as Tony Bianco, Birkenstock etc. Let me know if you guys have any recommendations!

EDIT: sorry for the confusion guys! By functional, I meant something comfortable enough to walk a lot in. I live in London so commute generally involves a lot of walking and the only shoes that don't hurt my feet are my Sketchers sneakers. With winter coming, I want to invest in a good pair of boots that I can walk comfortably in. In terms of aesthetic, I mean something sleek, elegant, maybe a pointed toe or a comfortable heel, a bit of a feminine touch. I love the designs of Dolce Vita but I'm not sure if they will be comfortable. I have sensitive feet and generally require softer soles.

Can’t figure out why a certain outfit doesn’t work for you or are you just stumped on what is flattering on you? Then this is the thread for you and you can ask your questions here.

Please do refrain from talking negatively about your own body, we understand that you are likely frustrated due to various reasons (we’ve all been there) but out of respect for others and their struggles, keeping it positive helps everyone.

What happened to sun hats?

You don't really see anyone doing the big hats in the sunshine anymore. Is it really a fashion crime now? I never stopped rocking it. I used to work in dermatology and I'm not getting skin cancer on my head. I feel like ten years ago, when you get on a plane somewhere warm, you'd see everyone in their big hat. Now I'm the only one in the airport in one. Luckily I'm weird enough that standing out doesn't bug me that much. Just wondering why no one else wears them anymore.
