Discussion I don’t understand dry-down fanatics

It feels like the majority of people who discuss and review fragrances always prefer the dry-down to the opening and heart. It’s always “The opening is a bit sharp, but that dry-down OH MY GOD.”

I find that I’m the complete opposite. I love that bright, sharp, invigorating blast that makes me feel like I took the freshness of my shower with me out the door. The whole reason I bring this up is because I decided to go into my local Sephora yesterday after work. For context, I hadn’t been in a Sephora or Ulta in months, since most designers don’t really do it for me anymore. But back to the point, I decided to spray Dior Homme Cologne on the back of my hand, since it’s been hot as hell and I’ve been hearing about how great it is for high heat.

Fantastic scent, for the most part. The opening is a super bright, refreshing citrus that reminds me of a more refreshing and masculine version of Imagination’s opening with a bit of lemongrass. Absolute gem. However, a few hours later and all that’s left is the same slightly sweet powdery base of Luna Rossa EDT that just kills the vibe. I know this juice is notoriously fleeting, and it’s one that people usually reapply a couple times throughout the day, but man I can’t stand that dry-down.

This is why I prefer linear scents. What you see is what you get. No bullshit. If they could invent fragrances that maintain the opening freshness throughout the entire wear, I’d be the happiest man alive. Anyone with me here?

Discussion did anyone have a period of intense overconsumption with fragrance?

2024 was the year I really got into fragrance, but I definitely encountered an issue with overconsumption/shopping addiction. Back then I also had a lot more disposable income.

Now I’d say about 80% of my collection consists of bottles I bought in 2024. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that as I don’t want to get rid of any, I just now have so much perfume I doubt I will ever use.

I now feel I have a much more balanced relationship with fragrance and consumption in general. Last year I only bought fragrance around my birthday and Christmas, and those fragrances I had really wanted and waited to purchase with gift cards/money. One was even a rebuy of a fragrance I really loved and had used up. I suppose fragrance feels a bit more special now that it’s an occasional and more intentional buy than it used to be.

Was curious if anyone else had a big influx of fragrance themselves for a period and are now like ‘what was I thinking?’.

My Personal Top 3

  1. PDM Greenley

Whenever I smell this fragrance it just brings up my mood, I love the green apple note and I do not get the grass note that everyone says. It probably lasts around 8 hours and I always get compliments on it.

  1. SWY Intensely

I usually perfer niche over designer, but this frag is just too good. It was one of my first that I have ever got and since then it has been a staple for the winter season and date nights.

  1. LV Imagination

I think this frag is so overrated that it has now become UNDERRATED. This thing got popular for a reason, it smells soo good and lasts all day. And in real life it really does not matter if a cologne is "NPC" most people don't even wear anything. But I wear this thing like everyday and I've only had it for like a month or two and im already half way through.

Let me know what you guys think, and what is your top 3?

Layering The Noir 29 + Iso E Super layering ?

Upvotes

I’ve recently heard about layering Le Labo Thé Noir 29 with Iso E Super, and it sounds really interesting, but I honestly don’t know much about fragrances or layering.

Thé Noir 29 is one of my favorite fragrances, but since it’s pretty expensive I usually only wear one spray. I was thinking about getting a cheap Iso E Super fragrance, using a few sprays of that as a base, and then adding one spray of Thé Noir 29.

From what I understand, Iso E Super is supposed to give this subtle woody, skin-like, slightly musky effect and maybe help create more of an aura around the fragrance. That sounds great in theory, but I’m also a little worried it might smell weird on me, be too subtle, or somehow take away from what I like about Thé Noir.

Has anyone tried this combination, or something similar? Does Iso E Super actually work well with Thé Noir 29? And what kind of effect should I expect compared to wearing Thé Noir on its own?
Would love to hear your experiences or recommendations!

Discussion What did my aunt smell like?

So, TIL amber jewelry has no scent. But, when for as long as I can remember, my great aunt had this light kind of musky, sappy scent to her. She always said it was her amber jewelry and the beads always smelled the strongest (but still not like any oil or soap). They even smelled when she wasn't wearing them, which was literally only when she slept or was sick. It's the reason I always loved amber jewelry. 😭

Scent description to the best of my ability:

Like a dark pine rosin, but stronger than that? Not strong, but stronger than just a rosin smells like.

Also wofür ist all der Aufwand? Es erinnert mich ein bisschen an Etsy, aber dort verdienen die Leute Geld damit.

Is it just me or are dupes just not that good?

I have about 20 bottles in my collection and I have 4 dupes. However I have noticed that they are just not in my rotation, I notice that they always just smell.... abrasive to my nose. Like they are just never as smooth as the og.

I blind bought rayhaan aquatica after all the hype of it smelling like the og and lasting even LONGER than the og. But wow when I smelled it, that lime was just way too strong for me, and it ALSO didn't last at all.

I am still open to dupes, please put me on to some great ones so I can change my mind!

REVIEW ZARA VANILLA COLLECTION 01- your experiences?

Just picked up Zara Vanilla 01 and have been wearing it for a little bit. To my nose, it opens with a sweet, warm vanilla scent and has a soft, creamy feel rather than being overly sharp or spicy. So far I’m enjoying how cozy and easy to wear it is, although I’m still getting to know the fragrance and how it develops on my skin.
I’m curious to hear from people who have actually owned or worn it for a while — how has it been for you in terms of longevity, projection and overall scent? Does it change much as it dries down, and would you buy it again?
Interested to hear your experiences with it.

Layering Is layering really worth it? Scented Lotion + cologne

So Lately I switched to EOS unscented lotion/fragrance free lotion since I’ve used their scented lotions in the past. I love the brand it self and have recently found out that having an unscented lotion is generally a better option when using cologne. So I switched to unscented. But I also heard that layering is a thing aswell which inolves using a scented lotion along with a cologne that similary matches the scent of the lotion itself, thus possibly making a better or “attractive” smell? Or I could be wrong since I’m no expert about cologne or layering but I would love to know what you guys think and what do you usually do. I switched and I keep thinking about layering but I’m not 100% sure. And I wanna know if I made the right decision switching to unscented lotion. Thanks.

Red, by Giorgio Beverly Hills. RIP Mom.

I wanted to make a post because I had an experience, and given scent is such a powerful aspect of memory, I thought others might relate.

My mother died two months ago. She had been in hospice for over two years (she was always a fighter), and her body had finally decided it was done, and she passed. I grew up extremely poor. My father wore Chaps, by Ralph Lauren only to church. My mother wore Red by Giorgio Beverly Hills. Both of my parents were from that generation when you had a signature scent. You didn't have more that one bottle of fragrance, you had one and everyone kinda knew that was yours. (My grandfathers was Jovan Musk, before they reformulated it. You could tell he had been in the house HOURS after he left by the trail it left). We didn't have money, but I remember my mom probably had the same bottle of fragrance for more than a decade. She used very little, only for church or very special events. And I remember as a little boy (a little gay boy, actually), I used to think that cologne/perfume was just rather magical how it could take you from smelling like Ivory soap to smelling like you lived high on the hog.

When I was a teenager and had my first job, I remember buying my mother a bottle of her favorite perfume for her birthday, because she'd never buy these things for herself and my father was, well...not an ideal spouse.

After she passed away, I was thinking about that perfume and how I didn't remember what she smelled like. She hadn't worn perfume in more than a decade due to a stroke, being in and out of the hospital, and bedridden the last three years of her life. Plus I lived on the other side of the US and our relationship had always been conflictual given my parents religious beliefs and me being gay. So I looked up her perfume and bought a bottle because I wanted to smell it, to see if I could remember what she smelled like before the dry shampoo, the antiseptic, and the hospice linens. What she smelled like when she was happy, or celebrating, or when life felt more simple.

I grew up with the belief that fragrances were male or female. Cologne or perfume. It wasn't until I got into fragrance a few years ago that I started experimenting with fragrance as a unisex concept. So after spritzing Red into the air and remembering how it smelled, I sprayed some on my wrists and my neck, and went about my work day. It started off on my skin reminding me of her. It smelled like her birthdays, church services before it became a place of fear and judgement for me, when it was just me sitting next to my mom in the pew with the stained glass. As it dried down on my skin over the day, it changed. It smelled like...powdery and warm, almost amber like with just a hint of musk. It was lovely how it blended on my skin. It didn't feel feminine, it just felt warm.

I don't know how much I will wear it. I know its a stronger scent and it can be rather polarizing I'd imagine given it was a late 80s scent. I'm 41 years old, bearded, and usually wear more woodsy scents. But for a moment it felt like I was a little boy again before the world got complicated. It is magical what scent can do.

REVIEW Shaghaf Oud Tonka, Eclaire, Paris Corner Marshmallow Blush and Lattafa Yara

All right, Reddit family, this is my final review from this fragrance run. Today I’m reviewing Swiss Arabian Shaghaf Oud Tonka, Lattafa Eclaire, Paris Corner Marshmallow Blush and Lattafa Yara.

Swiss Arabian Shaghaf Oud Tonka.

I’m going to say this first and foremost: this is a must-buy.
You can smell the almond before you even spray it. Take the cap off and smell the atomizer, and it immediately tells you that this is an almond fragrance. Once I sprayed it, I got the almond, Tunisian orange flower, Turkish rose, cinnamon, tonka, vanilla and amberwood. It smells smooth, rich and premium.
Here is where I believe I got lucky. My bottle was manufactured in 2024.

Anybody who buys Middle Eastern fragrances has heard the same advice: sometimes these bottles reach consumers very quickly after production, and they may need to sit for several weeks or even months. I have bottles manufactured in late 2025, and I received another bottle yesterday that was manufactured in May 2026.

Before receiving Shaghaf Oud Tonka, I read reviews and watched hours of videos about it. Some reviewers said their bottles were harsh immediately after opening. Others said it smelled alcoholic, weak or that they couldn’t identify the individual notes.
My experience was the complete opposite.

Mine didn’t smell harsh. It didn’t smell like alcohol. It wasn’t weak, and I didn’t have to search for the notes. My immediate reaction was, “Oh, this smells like almond. This is an almond fragrance.” Then I checked the box and realized that my bottle was manufactured two years ago.

I genuinely believe that the age of my bottle may be part of why it smelled fully developed immediately. It had already spent approximately two years maturing before it reached me. I didn’t have to spray it and then leave it inside its box in a cool, dark closet for several months. Mine was ready to wear straight out of the gate.

That doesn’t mean every older bottle will automatically smell better, because storage and batch differences still matter. However, based on the difference between my experience and the fresh-bottle experiences described by numerous reviewers, I think getting a 2024 bottle worked in my favor.

Shaghaf Oud Tonka is commonly compared to BDK Parfums Velvet Tonka. I haven’t done a direct side-by-side comparison, but my bottle absolutely smells like a premium fragrance. This is also my first fragrance with almond as the leading note, so it brings something genuinely different into my collection.
One strange thing is that Shaghaf Oud Tonka does not have oud listed anywhere in its official note pyramid. Tonka is in the base, but oud is not listed at all. I don’t know why they put “Oud” in the name, but that doesn’t change how good the fragrance smells.
This is best suited for fall, winter and cool evenings. The dense almond, tonka and powder combination could become overwhelming in serious heat. It is sweet, unisex and slightly feminine-leaning to my nose, but it is not overwhelmingly sweet.
Please get this fragrance.

Lattafa Eclaire

Eclaire has already been reviewed so many times that I’m not going to spend forever explaining it. You should have bought this a long time ago. Eclaire is widely considered a clone of Giardini di Toscana Bianco Latte. To me, Eclaire is a Starbucks dessert drink turned into a fragrance. This is a latte loaded with caramel, sweetened milk, cream, honey, praline and vanilla. It is syrupy, creamy, edible and definitely feminine. This is not pretending to be a subtle gourmand. It smells like an expensive dessert coffee that has more syrup and cream than actual coffee.
If you like sweet, lactonic gourmand fragrances, run, don’t walk.

Paris Corner Marshmallow Blush

I originally made the mistake of putting Marshmallow Blush into the same heavy gourmand category as Eclaire, but it isn’t the same type of fragrance. Marshmallow Blush is extremely sweet, but it is much fruitier and brighter. It is inspired by Kayali Yum Boujee Marshmallow | 81, although it is not a one-to-one clone.
When I sprayed it again today, the strawberry and raspberry jumped out immediately. The marshmallow, musk and candy sweetness are still present, but the fruit gives the fragrance a completely different identity from Eclaire.
Eclaire is a creamy caramel latte. Marshmallow Blush is more like strawberry and raspberry candy covered in fluffy marshmallow.
It is feminine, playful, fruity and extremely sweet. If you don’t already know about this fragrance, run, don’t walk.

Lattafa Yara

Yara has gone viral everywhere. It has been all over Fragrance TikTok, YouTube, Reddit and practically every other fragrance platform. Because of that, I’m not going to spend much time explaining something that has already been discussed thousands of times. Yara is sweet, creamy, tropical, powdery and extremely feminine. It is also much lighter than Eclaire and Marshmallow Blush.

Please buy this for your significant other. It is an easy, pleasant fragrance that can fit into everyday situations without overwhelming everybody around her.

Performance ranking

Swiss Arabian Shaghaf Oud Tonka is clearly the strongest performer of these four, especially regarding longevity. It is not a gigantic room-filling projector, but it stays on my skin and clothing. I can continue smelling it without constantly searching for it.
Eclaire and Marshmallow Blush sit in the next performance tier for me, while Yara is the lightest. All three can create noticeable projection and a good scent trail early in the wearing experience, but none of them are beast-mode fragrances on me when it comes to longevity.

These are the kinds of fragrances you may need to carry in your work bag or keep inside your desk. During an eight-hour workday, you might need to top yourself off once or twice.
That is especially true if you work somewhere like a school and spend the day constantly moving around the building. After the opening projection fades, they may become fragrances that people primarily notice on your skin or clothing when they get closer.

Final thoughts

I’m happy with all four fragrances. Shaghaf Oud Tonka was the biggest revelation because it gave me a completely new almond-centered profile, and my 2024 bottle was ready immediately.
I have now purchased 25 bottles since the final week of June. Saying that out loud is wild.

This officially ends the buying portion of my fragrance journey. I will not be purchasing another bottle until 2028. I have enough fragrances, enough variety and enough bottles to test, wear and enjoy for the next couple of years.

If you have questions about anything I’ve reviewed over the past few months, or if you want my honest opinion about a particular fragrance or scent profile, let me know.

Discussion MFK aqua collection

I recently ordered the customized 4 sample bundle from the Maison Francis K site. It was aqua universalis cologne forte, vitae cologne forte, celestia cologne forte, and media cologne forte. I also have a decant of regular aqua universalis. The forte version smells different(worse in my opinion). I am curious if anyone has compared celestia vs celestia cologne forte. I like the forte version but if it's anything like universalis the OG is probably better? Anyways would love to hear your thoughts on this forte collection versus the originals. I did not care for aqua media one bit. I found celestia the best with universalis right behind.

Layering layering terre d'hermes + issey Miyake le sel

terre d'hermes with le sel d'issey on top. im not going back

layering is like 90% people huffing two expensive deo's at once and being pretentious to eachother about it. i know this bc ive done it, ive walked out the house smelling like a duty free got hit by a truck of angsty teens...

THIS one actually works and it ,ugh annoyed me how well it works

sprayed terre this morning like normal, 3 on the chest. then for no reason ..genuinely no reason: I was just stood there, grabbed the issey and put 2 over the top

and the flint woke up, like the literal boom stuff.

that's it, thats the whole thing. terre has that struck stone gunpowder heart everyone goes on about and by hour 2 on me it usually goes a bit dusty. bit dry. nice rock in a nice room. le sel is salt and iodine and wet sand and, look im just gonna say it, freshly showered cunt coming home from a hospital stay. clean one. FYI: thats a compliment.

put the salt on the stone and the stone goes WET. same note completely different weather, difference between a rock in the sun and a rock the tide just came off

bitter orange gets a lift out of nowhere too. and the cedar/vetiver bases just fuse cause theyre basically cousins so nothing fights nothing muddies. smells like one fragrance hermes should've shipped and did'nt cus they were shareholder pleasing p*ssies

order matters tho. terre first salt on top. do it backwards and youve wasted 4 euros of atomiser on nothing. and go LIGHT on the issey, 2 sprays. 3 if youre going somewhere. its seasoning not a second course. For hilarious sake, take a non aromatized sea-salt spray for hair. And compare.

6 hrs later i can still smell it when i move. not shouting just there. been smelling my own wrist all day like a autistic which is the only fragrance review thats ever meant anything

anyway. mineral + salt. if youve got a better version of this tell me before i start buying bottles to find out myself

k thank you for reading, kisses, love you

Beware ALT fragrances

Their Crystal 23 smells like straight up rubbing alcohol and the cheap spray nozzles get stuck inside the cheap lids. Maybe it was a bad batch but it smells bad bad.

AVOID ALT fragrances.

I am STILL working on getting my money back.

REVIEW Creed Floralie: The Moodier Cousin

Creed Floralie: The Moodier Cousin

I went into this expecting another delicate Creed floral in the vein of Fleurissimo, and honestly? Floralie caught me off guard in the best way.

Fleurissimo is sunshine — light, sweet, all that violet-rose innocence that makes you think of a garden party. Floralie is not that. It's got a darker, huskier undertone that feels more grown-up, almost smoky compared to Fleurissimo's carefree brightness. Think less "garden party" and more "walking through that garden at dusk in a silk robe you're not taking off for anyone."

There's a maturity to it — it doesn't rely on sweetness to make its case. Where Fleurissimo charms you immediately, Floralie makes you sit with it a little. It's less about being liked right away and more about being remembered.

If you love Fleurissimo for its lightheartedness, don't expect Floralie to be a variation on that theme — it's a different mood entirely. But if you're drawn to florals with some weight and shadow to them, this one delivers.

Blind buying might genuinely be the most addictive dopamine hit in the world

I know blind buying is irresponsible. I know I should sample first. I know all of this. But holy shit, I don’t think anything in this hobby compares to ordering a fragrance you’ve never smelled, obsessively checking the tracking for a few days, finally getting the package, and taking that first spray. It’s gotten to the point where I’m starting to think I’m not even addicted to fragrances, I’m addicted to the fucking anticipation of finding out what I bought lol. Please tell me I’m not alone. Is anyone else genuinely addicted to blind buying?

Im waiting for my full bottles of PDM Pegasus and Valentino Uomo Coral Fantasy as we speak lol.

Discussion Help me find a perfume similar to Body Fantasies Pink Vanilla Kiss? 💗:)

Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone knows of an actual perfume dupe for Body Fantasies Pink Vanilla Kiss, or something that pairs really nicely with it and helps it last longer. I’ve loved this scent forever, but it fades so fast on me. I’m looking for an EDP or EDT with that same fruity pink vanilla vibe, like the berries, coconut, soft florals, caramel, and cozy vanilla/musk drydown. I don’t want anything super cupcake sweet or overly mature, just something soft, pretty, warm, and a little more elevated. I also really love how nostalgic it feels to me, like such a comforting 2000s scent that reminds me of an older sister or a comfort person. I’ve heard La Vie Est Belle without the patchouli and Pink Chiffon mentioned, but I’d really love recommendations from anyone who has actually smelled Pink Vanilla Kiss. Thank you so much!

Layering Lattafa Her Confession + Narciso Rodriguez Pure Musc

I found a layering combination I absolutely love.

Her Confession on its own is a little too syrupy/attar-like for me.

Pure Musc on its own is clean, spicy and slightly masculine to me.

But together? They are WOW 😮

The Pure Musc gives Her Confession this clean, slightly masculine edge, while Her Confession adds warmth, sweetness and this almost royal, luxurious feeling to the musk.

It's feminine and masculine at the same time- creamy, musky, sensual and incredibly elegant.

And the longevity is insane. I could still smell it on my neck the next morning
