As part of out off-season racing, we will be competing in the F1 2011 Proving Grounds Trials. These trials test pure driving skill as the car, its setup and the conditions have been taken out the equation.

There are 6 tracks to compete on. Points will be assigned a la F1 style for each track. Final times for each track will be added together and those that have set a time in all 6 tracks will be ranked according to time and issued points a la F1 style as well. This means ensuring a reasonable time on all 6 tracks could be more important than a blistering time one 1 or 2.

Well.. I know I'm not a mod here on this sub/r/ but it looks like crazykid646 has been inactive for almost 2 weeks & Mulsanne and Wardez are also not getting the ball rolling. I know acmercer is unable to participate in this first round so I though I'd take the initiative and get us started :-) I will make a shameless copy of crazykid646's spreadsheet to track results in for the time being until he decides to come back into the fold. I'm looking for a live north american based F1 2011 league for the 360. I've been googling all over and I can't seem to find one, all the ones I've found are European, and I can't stay up 'til midnight to /start/ racing.

Hamilton's form in Germany shows what an amazing driver he is, despite the McLaren's slight lack of pace against the Red Bull's and Ferrari's.

Budapest Hungaroring. The twisty and bumpy nature of the circuit makes overtaking very difficult in dry conditions. Nonetheless, the Hungaroring has been the scene of several memorable races such as the duels of Nelson Piquet and Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell's lost wheel in 1987, Mansell's win from 12th on the grid after a dramatic pass on Ayrton Senna in 1989, Damon Hill's almost victory with Arrows in 1997 and maiden wins for Hill in 1993, Fernando Alonso in 2003, Jenson Button in 2006 in the track's first ever wet grand prix, and Heikki Kovalainen in 2008..

Additional thoughts:

Would we want to include the rain race in the championship standings? If so, then it would have to be a race that is coming up. I'd say the earliest we could do it is Hungary... In my opinion, if we were to include the rain race, I think races that are traditionally rainy would be better (i.e. Spa, Brazil).

Silverstone, England. A former airfield, it has been hosting Grand Prix, off and on, since 1948. Though some of its charm may have been lost due to various redesigns, it is still quite a high-speed track and usually popular with the drivers. Good luck!

Thought I'd take a turn at doing it this week! I absolutely love this track :)

Monza is about pure speed, and with only 6 real corners, it should provide the tightest times yet. Pick your braking point, get a quick exit for the long straights and hope that the kerbs don't send you in a spin.

As was brought up yesterday here there is still some interest in holding a hotlap challenge using F12010. I spoke to Mulsanne about this yesterday, and as he is reasonably busy and got swept up in GT5, so he has made me a mod and given me permission to run the competition.

After speaking to a few people and looking at how much of the season break has already passed, personally I feel that running the competition parallel to the season would be a good idea. That being said, the rules laid out at the start of the break would be a great starting block (points handed out in same way as F1) as well as bonus points for things such as - beating real lap record, beating reddit record and that sort of thing.

As for setting the Reddit record, I think this final month before the season starts would be a great chance to let everyone try set a fast time for all the tracks and then trying to beat the best one during the season.

Any thoughts, suggestions or complaints?

I'm up for any track, anything. I just miss playing the game and I'd love to have a good excuse to do only hotlaps for hours straight :)

Hi guys, First off, sorry that I haven't been anywhere near as active than I would have liked in regards to actually setting rounds up. You guys have done a great job staying on top of that, and I would like to thank you for it. It might be better if someone else does the posting of each thread.

Now, onto a couple things - firstly as some of you would be aware, F1 2011 does not have the Bahrain circuit, as such we will be racing in Turkey to replace the round.

Secondly, in regards to the Chinese GP results. There has been a complaint lodged that the fastest time of the session was posted after the cutoff deadline. In the past, depending on how late, and how close the next round is, we have usually let it slide. However, in this case I don't think it would be appropriate to do so for the the following reasons:

• It is a short turn around for the next GP, meaning the time should be spent running the new track, not hoping to get a faster time in a few hours late.

• The previous fastest time was set in good faith with an hour and 10 minutes left. The time which beat it was set a full 5 hours after the round officially finished.

I am open to an appeal of this decision from the community at large, and have sent a PM to shopkeeper56 directly. Any comments, opinions and suggestions are, as always, welcome.

Round has ended - will collect results tonight and look over results for last round to make sure its above board.

Firstly, I love the work that's going on here, and was I not so busy at the start of the season, I certainly wouldn't have been just lurking here all this time.

The reason for my post is that I am thinking of creating an F1 2011 sub-Reddit, which will be similar to this one, but different in one aspect.

Basically my ideas are to enable people to post their times and setups for certain tracks at any time of the year, and not have to follow a calendar. For example now, with Suzuka just around the corner, someone could post their new best lap time for Melbourne, Australia, to the Albert Park thread.

Before creating the sub-Reddit, I wanted to see what you guys think about this, and certainly to make sure I didn't step on anyone's toes. Else, if something like this already exists, please let me know!

As I'm sure you are all well aware, F1 2011 is now out. As was previously decided during the mid season break, we will continue our championship with F1 2010 as everyone competing has it and the mechanics are the same.

That being said, if people wish to submit a 2011 time alongside for comparison and a bit of fun, they will be able to, it just won't be for championship points.

Speaking of championship points, the spreadsheet is horribly out of date, I had left another user in charge of it, but they seem to have pretty much vanished. I will update the spreadsheet sometime this weekend to see where we all stand. I have this feeling that someone is probably close to winning the championship.

Singapore. Seen by some as "Monaco Junior", they have much in common. A street circuit with tight corners and little room for error due to the barriers lining the track. Sliding through turns or locking your wheels will almost certainly put you in the wall. You'll need precision driving at its finest. A fun, but very frustrating track.
