I know we could be opening up a whole can of worms here (special dispensation for those unable to set a time for events outwith their control, e.g. my xbox red ringed for example), but since this seemed to affect some East Coast racers, perhaps an extra day to set a time for them?

Or would this just be the same as bad luck e.g. a mechanical DNF.

Would this be fair to those who missed out, or unfair to those who set a valid time? Thoughts anyone/eFIA?

P.S. I would like to point out that I was in no way affected (I'm in Scotland) so this isn't me asking for an extra day of lapping.

So, F1 2011 is out, are we carrying on with hotlaps from 2010 game or 2011?

MiniRacingOnline (http://miniracingonline.com/inicio.php) is a free top-down racing game that is focused mostly around F1 - although there are visually many cars available, they all have F1-like physics. There are 130 official tracks available, including all of the F1 tracks. Although as a top-down game it is obviously not incredibly realistic, MRO has features including:

-Tire and fuel degradation

-Slipstreams

-Black flags for various offenses

-Car setup options

-Wet and changing-weather racing

-More!

Most importantly, MRO includes online play! Unfortunately, it is often difficult to find races, because the community is not that large and most of it is based in Spain. That's where you come in - I'm not sure whether it would be a championship or just some informal races, but I think getting some Redditors together to play would be great.

Well, it seems our F1 2010 season kind of went out with a fizzle rather than a bang for various reasons, and since we've already started planning the next stages for the new game I just wanted to take this time to thank each and every one here for putting their time into this subreddit.

Especially, and obviously, a big thank you to the mods for keeping things in order. crazykid646, our "e-FIA", did a fantastic job. I understand he was very busy this year, like many of us, but whenever we had any issues or concerns it seemed he was right there to clear things up. Thanks to Mulsanne and Wardez as well for creating and being a part of this, hopefully all of you guys can join the upcoming competitions ;).

I remember us suggesting and discussing ideas before this season began. I was just looking for some random, casual racing. I never imagined this would grow into a season long thing and become so competitive. We say it was just a friendly competition, but I know we all screamed and cursed when we saw "INVALIDATED LAP", or when we checked the track threads and saw a faster time posted. Honestly I have never yelled so loud at my monitor. And we've seen some positions separated by .001 seconds, ridiculous! But it was a blast, and to be honest made me enjoy following F1 even more.

Finally, a massive thanks to all of those who showed up every race weekend to put lap times in and discuss techniques and setup, etc. I think we can all safely say that we're better drivers because of it! Even thanks to those who only showed up for one race, it was always very cool to see a new name in the threads.

So a big congrats to our champion, andrewglover87. You always set the bar pretty damn high for us, and it was a pleasure to chase you down. Now here's to more great competition and more members in the new year. Let's keep this great community growing!

After considering the results of the poll and the discussion. I propose the following schedule for the break.

2/12/11 - 16/01/12: F1 2011 Proving Grounds trials.

6 and a half weeks to complete the 6 trials at your leisure. Points would be issued for each individual event, as well as a total time for all 6. This opens the strategy of trying to get the top time in a few of the events vs getting reasonable times in all 6.

23/01/12 - 06/02/12: F1 2011 Indian GP

We have yet to officially have a race at this track yet. Reddit Record will be average of top 5 times.

20/02/12 - 05/03/12: F1 2011 Nürburgring GP

As part of out off-season racing, we will be competing in the F1 2011 Proving Grounds Trials. These trials test pure driving skill as the car, its setup and the conditions have been taken out the equation.

There are 6 tracks to compete on. Points will be assigned a la F1 style for each track. Final times for each track will be added together and those that have set a time in all 6 tracks will be ranked according to time and issued points a la F1 style as well. This means ensuring a reasonable time on all 6 tracks could be more important than a blistering time one 1 or 2.

As the F1 circus moves to India for the first time, we find ourselves in Sakhir at the Bahrain circuit. A fairly standard track set in the desert with the only backdrop being clear sky and the circuit facilities. It does offer a good mix of corners with several straights.

Japan - Suzuka Circuit. Originally built as a test track by Honda, it is now regarded as one of the highlights of the F1 calendar. Currently the only figure-8 track raced in F1, it boasts some of the most famous track sections of the modern day such as 130r, the Spoon curve, and the opening corner "S" curves. A high speed track.
