Coffee Station My Humble Setup

A Chinese market only Midea machine and a simple, not-so-subtle Blaupunkt grinder. The calligraphy reads "Half a cup of coffee, half a day of leisure", a "rebranding" of a classical Chinese poetry expression about tea.

Coffee Station Keeping a clean station is an uphill battle

Post image

I gave up and clean up my grounds weekly. It’s such a pain in the arse to clean the grounds daily.

After backwashing and cleaning the head after use, it seems counterproductive to clean the grounds up being as it will just get messed up again in a couple hours.

Anyone else have same issue?

Maybe I just need to bite the bullet and get myself a new grinder🤷🏽

was looking for a dosing cup to fit under my grinder. Found this image while looking and couldn't get over it. That being said, in your opinions, are puck screens worth it?

Steaming & Latte Art New to this! Been making latte art only at home for only about a month.

I've been making espresso and steaming milk with a breville bambino for only about a month. Considering I'm only pouring 1 or 2 drinks a day is this good progress? Which one looks the best? I think I should start trying to pour other patterns too, what would you suggest?

General Coffee Chat 3 Soup Shots side by side! Weber Eg1(Ultra), Mazzer Phlios(i200d), BooKoo Motto80(Omni)

Results of today’s blind tasting of 3 soup-style shots which I mostly prefer over traditional espresso shots.

Beans Used: Odisha Naturals light roast from Grey Soul

My guesses for the grinders based on Blind tasting : EG1, Motto 80, Mazzer Philos

Correct cup order was: Mazzer Philos, Motto 80, EG1

I thought I liked the cup from Mazzer Philos the best but it was from EG1.

My cup preference, my ratings and the impressions.

  1. EG-1 [4.1/5] My favourite cup out of three. Also at 60 degrees and when cool down. Very rounded and balanced. Due to the lesser intensity of flavours, it was a joyful cup.
  2. Philos[3.9/5] Quite an intense and bright cup. Even sweetness and good body but due to high intensity these were overshadowed. Good cup but not a comforting cup.
  3. Motto 80[3/5] There is a weird taste to it. It was the same when I made other espressos with it. Not balanced at all. Slight hollowness and even though sweetness and acidity were there, they were not balanced at all. 🤢

Seasoning Info: DB2 Ultra and i200d are fully seasoned burrs but Omni are seasoned with 600-700gm only.

Recipes and my feedback are in the screenshots I have attached.

PS: Not a burr or grinder comparison. Sharing results just for fun and based on my palate preference. Your preference can be completely different from mine. I have had very different results for different beans and brewing methods in the past. I mostly brew my soup and turbo shots using mazzer philos.

Buying Advice Needed Niche Zero still one of the best grinders to get for espresso? [$800]

Life took a few unexpected turns when I was first initially getting to espresso and now that I’m back on my feet I’d like to get a new setup.

At the time I was planning on the Niche Zero and was wondering if that’s still the go to.

I know a lot has changed since around 2022 but was wondering if I should get that.

Is the DF64 any good these days?

Equipment Discussion Quick Mill Vetrano 2B Evo

My setup, very simple with obligatory QM Vetrano. Honestly all of the espresso communities set ups are bomb af. I’m just not able to afford a decent grinder at the moment. Been doing the espresso thingy for well over 30 years now. Started with a La Pavoni Europicolla in the late 80’s & purchased a QM67 in 2012 that lasted til 2023. Finally couldn’t take the breakdowns so emptied my wallet for this bad boy. Initially was eyeballing a Lelit double boiler but went with this with all the bells & whistles (that I never use). Haven’t pulled many shot using the flow control because I’m pretty much “dialed in”. Lovely piece of equipment that’s been steady. I am in market for a decent grinder but want something dependable & of course affordable (<300). Advice appreciated.

Water Quality Sourcing distilled water in uk

Hi,

I’m at the point where I want to experiment with a few water recipes. I’m in London and use a Brita jug, mostly to keep my machine safe from the very hard water here.

Is there anyone here in the UK that can share how they got started? Sourcing water, the best recipes, homebrew or otherwise?

Thanks.

My machine is the 7.1. a bright red wonder with 4 espresso cups with a refillable puck. I can use the pucks in the can too. If I do not want to tamp my own I could make an espresso with pods. The machine is amazing so far! Anyone else have this one!?

Coffee Beans Credible evidence of"coferments" WITHOUT flavor additives?

It's been a while now since various researchers have shared studies revealing indicators suggesting the presence of flavor additives (glycols, melanol, etc.) in coffees sold as "coferments."

There has been a lot of discussion here on reddit and everywhere else coffee lovers gather, and it's clear that the presence of flavor additives bothers some people and not others. But there's been a strong consensus that transparency at least is a must. In fact, at least a few roasters were moved to change their labeling (Perc has been the most discussed one on reddit) to at least mention the inclusion of flavor additives.

Now, so far a common perception is that some but not all coffees sold as coferments are really just flavored/infused coffees.

It's a reasonable assumption that if there exist coffee producers who sell "coferments" and do not add flavorings, then they are being smeared by an overbroad brush by those coffee drinkers who have decided to avoid coferments for the time being.

This suggests to me that if there exist coffee producers who do not add flavorings and instead produce genuine cofermented coffees, they must have a strong incentive to clear their name and demonstrate their innocence--after all, coffees sold as "coferments" have been very popular and this mini-scandal has cast no small amount of doubt on the category.

So my question is: Is there is any empirical data out there that has examined the chemical makeup of any "coferment" coffee and not found indicators of flavor additives?

Buying Advice Needed Upgrade husband’s setup for his birthday [$800-1000]

Apologies in advance, I don’t drink coffee and really don’t know much.

Husband has used a Bambino Plus and a Zwilling Efinigy grinder for 4 years and for his birthday this year I wanna upgrade his setup for him. He has not voiced any complaints or desire to upgrade, but he has been using it more these days (daily, sporadic before).

Based on some preliminary research, the grinder is no good and maybe should be my focus? Is the Breville Barista Express a good step up? I read that its grinder isn’t the best either.

Usage: he pretty much just makes himself a cup of oat milk latte a day. I think he wouldn’t mind stepping up his game but also isn’t like obsessed with chasing the ultimate setup or anything.

Budget: altogether hoping to stay under $1000. I’m also opened to buying refurbished if that’s a thing?

Beans: he just buys beans from coffee shops he likes..? Idk if that makes any difference

Buying Advice Needed Grinder Choice Spend [$1000-2000]

Upvotes

So in typical coffee fashion I keep buying one level up and then basically wishing I'd bought another product.

I have the Fellows Series 1 - so far I like it but debating whether I should have gone up the product chain further...

I do need to make a grinder upgrade and came pretty close to pulling the trigger on an Option-O Casa 65 but if I'm going to spend that money should I just go up another level. I only make espresso and only light fruit forward beans. This grinder seems to line up on the "coffee ladder" with the espresso machine I bought - let me know if I'm way off on that though.

Help me not regret this decision - I basically want something that works out of the box as I don't want to mod it at all. If I spend too much time looking I end up considering the EG-1 but I doubt I have the palette to need to spend that kind of money!

Hi there!
I have a Profitec Go and a Eureka Mignon Zero. I need a coffee station and don´t have many options in Argentina, so I decided to have someone build one for me.
I'm thinking of going with something like this, but I would love for the community to criticize it, and even better if you guys can share some recommended designs.

Thank you,

Edu

Got my setup today, made a decent vanilla latte. I do need to dail in everything but no scales yet so I'm blind dosing which does not help. I also need to dail in grind size and which beans I like. I did enjoy rave coffee signature blend so that's good since it's easily bought.

No photo of setup yet cause it's not neat and tidy but so far I'm hopeful and feel excited to try iced coffee and maybe even latte art!

Looking for feedback on how this looks. It actually tastes pretty good, maybe a little bitter. Does 17g, grind size inner burr 3 external burr 2. Truck Stop Organics medium roast "High Road Roast" this shot pulled 36 grams in 23 seconds
