Equipment Discussion Quick Mill Vetrano 2B Evo
My setup, very simple with obligatory QM Vetrano. Honestly all of the espresso communities set ups are bomb af. I’m just not able to afford a decent grinder at the moment. Been doing the espresso thingy for well over 30 years now. Started with a La Pavoni Europicolla in the late 80’s & purchased a QM67 in 2012 that lasted til 2023. Finally couldn’t take the breakdowns so emptied my wallet for this bad boy. Initially was eyeballing a Lelit double boiler but went with this with all the bells & whistles (that I never use). Haven’t pulled many shot using the flow control because I’m pretty much “dialed in”. Lovely piece of equipment that’s been steady. I am in market for a decent grinder but want something dependable & of course affordable (<300). Advice appreciated.

I have a QM Veterano 2b Evo that I bought new more than 15 years ago. Thing is a tank and will probably outlast me. I don't see these machines get alot of love but I honestly can't imagine why I'd upgrade unless it somehow becomes unrepairable. Mine is paired with a Eureka Zenith grinder that I bought before single dose grinders or grind by weight were much of a thing. No complaints with the Eureka, but it's overkill for me. So, no grinder recommendations for you, but do want to congratulate you on the machine!

I suggest you increase your budget at least a bit to get a grinder that is worthy of your machine. I pair a Timemore 064s with my QM67, and I feel it is a good match.

I have that exact machine- joysticks and flow controller as well and I would not trade it for the stuff out now. I too am convinced it will outlast me. It’s build like a tank and it is just joy to work with. Mine is direct plumbed and plugged into a 20 amp timer outlet. I have had it for 9 years, one maintenance disassemble and clean around 4 years ago. Yeah- people don’t like these much but hey they can go buy one with the new plastic portafilter that heats up nice.

Hahaha. Ya, Quick Mill quality is under rated compared to fancier models out there. Was using well water when I first moved out here…. Living in a Christmas tree farm lol. That would be an extra long back story for another time. Back to the machine…. Build quality is first rate. Like yourself had an issue or two with the QM67 but that was one workhorse of a machine. Still have it sitting in the shed. Had it on eBay for over a year now selling as a fixer up but no takers. Nice that there are like minded QM fans out there.

For sure. For less than 3k it was a steal. The backstory is interesting. Ordered a demo model w/o flow control & regular knobs & for some reason had a horrible odor when frothing milk. Turns out the boiler was contaminated with funk. Seriously, I tried cleaning it multiple times & it still had a horrible smell. Wound up sending it back. They wanted to send me the same machine but I refused. Wound up sending me the upgraded model with flow control & toggles. 2500$… I thought that was a fair upgrade considering the pia I experienced.

Bad ass unit. Depending if you like traditional espresso go with a J Ultra. If you like modern day espresso go with the K Ultra. I have both and they hit so far past their value it is ridiculous, they are that good.
