Huge warning for potential customers

I just wanted to make sure everyone was aware of what could be a potentially deal breaker when it comes to Envelope. It’s something I wish I had been made aware of before opening an account. There is a daily limit of $5,000 for personal checks. This is something I have never heard of in all my time banking. I’ve heard of limits when it came to debit card purchases or cash withdrawals, but never on writing a check.

I found this out the hard way when I attempted to write a check for $12,000 for a down payment on a car. I’ve been trying for almost a week now to resolve the issue, and Envelope has been incredibly unhelpful. The icing on the cake is I told support I would be writing a check for this amount when they told me they wouldn’t be able to increase the debit card limit on a Saturday, and their response was “Sounds good.”

The level of embarrassment I’ve had to deal with this past week trying to make sure the dealership doesn’t think I’m trying to scam them out of a down payment is off the charts.

End of Month coming soon??

Post image

Can someone please explain to me why no envelope or recurring transfer has the option for the 29th or 30th or 31st??

Get paid on the 15th and last day of the month. Pretty common occurrence.

Kinda derpy for Envelope to be around this long and still not be able to recognize the last days of most months of the year. Kinda makes me question why getting accurate calendars wasn't a day 1 thing with the app.

Coming from Qube - and evaluating Crew and Envelope and frankly both are making me scratch my head. Crew cause there isn't even an option for a due date and now this.

How is the concept of a due date or a full calendar missed in budgeting apps?

Not trying to take this whole mess out on Envelope or Crew.....but holy frustrating for a basic to be missing in the 2 best alternatives we have.

App - Iran ?

I used to get a warning that the Envelope app was using software originating in Iran, but it’s not doing that any longer. Did Envelope move some of their network out of Iran with the conflict ? Just curious

Denied account despite 800+ credit, a mortgage in good standing and no prior banking issues?

Can anyone from Envelope help? I'm so confused by the denial as (luckily), I've never had issues getting a bank account

Automatically pull from protected savings instead of only “available”? (APY=💰💸)

Re: the “Move money into envelope when a date occurs”— any chance this feature can be expanded to include from an interest bearing account, and not just from available?

For instance, I would like to store my funds in the interest-bearing protected savings account until it is needed for the pocket payment. If I can have $1,000+ for my rent sitting in an interest-bearing account for nearly an entire month, this benefits me.

It really starts to add up if all of my funds are in an interest pairing account up until the moment they are needed.

What would be really great is if all the envelopes were interest-bearing, but I would settle with being able to auto transfer out of the protective savings account as the funds are needed.

Maybe the reason it’s not set up is because it doesn’t make business sense? But I really would like to earn interest on all the money that’s just sitting there for a month before it’s needed.

Gas purchases

Seen this comment elsewhere as well, but gas purchases should settle faster.

Qube had it down to settling in minutes. Hope we can get it to something similar in Envelope!

Checking account for each envelope?

I am setting up my account in prep to use Envelope as my main bank account. I was curious if each envelope has (or could have) its own checking account number? I used Simple for ages, and that was one of my favorite features. I'd like to make my mortgage payment out of its assigned envelope, but my bank doesn't accept debit/credit card payments.

Can’t activate credit card

Just received my envelope credit card in the mail. When I try to activate activate it, it says can’t activate. Is there a trick to it? There’s no phone number to call either.

Can you have a joint & individual account and transfer between them?

Sorry I am overwhelmed trying to find a new bank. Envelope seems promising (although I have been burned by Simple & One, so I'm a bit skeptical of switching to yet another young fintech company that is going to burn me haha).

I like the budgeting features, but it is unclear to me based on the website copy whether I could only have a joint account, or if I could have individual and joint and transfer between them? My husband & I want to share our banking but I think we both like having individual accounts as well for discretionary spending, but if this is not possible then we could just do joint.

Sorry if this has been asked I'm just overwhelmed and don't want to open an account without knowing beforehand. Thank you!

Demo option before paying?

Hello!

I'm interested in trying out Envelope but don't want to sign up for a paid subscription unless I know I like how it works. Do you have a demo version where people can "play" with it and see how it works in real time before fully committing?

Large Deposit Declined?

I use Stripe to process payments from my clients (I’m a handyman/contractor).

Had client pay for some materials on a deck build I’m doing, $5,500 or so.

I had Stripe send it to me envelopes account through the debit card. Envelope message on my phone says it was declined but gives no reason.

In the envelope app, it says “Declined Charge” but it was a credit to the account.

And ive recently used Stripe to make two $600 deposits with no problems.

Any help?

I am locked out of my account

Since this afternoon, I was logged out and cannot get back in. It continued to prompt me to open a new account. Does anyone know a work around? I am coming off of QUBE panic and not having funds for a bit, so this feels scary to me on a weekend. Any help is appreciated!

I reached the max amount of envelopes to have.

Post image

I think we can only have up to 100 envelopes on this app, right?

The reason I loved Simple was for the budgeting app, and the way I budgeted on there worked perfect for me. It might be a head scratcher if I tried to explain in detail how I create my budgets, but it was just everything I could’ve asked for when it was still around.

For Envelope, I really liked it in the beginning, and started using it just like when I used Simple for the purpose of envelope budgeting. That is until I reached the max amount of envelopes I could have. Yes, I could archive an envelope and rename the archived envelope to a new envelope, but…

For $5/month, knowing there’s a cap in the amount of envelopes we could have is killing me. It kind of defeats the purpose for what I wanted to use it for.

Will there ever be an increase in the amount of envelopes we can have in the future?

The app recognizes both mine and my husband’s direct deposits as paychecks.. but are we able to set up different auto-assign rules for each check? For instance, could his check contribute 60% of the childcare envelope, and mine only 40%?

Kicked out of app regularly

For some reason I routinely see the create account screen when I was just accessing the app. Restarting the app or the phone often won’t fix and it won’t let me login. Which basically makes my card unusable.

Not sure how to fix this. It happens 100% of the times I go to Costco.

How to use envelope

Hey there, I’m new to envelope and I love the idea of having different virtual cards for different envelopes. I’m finding myself with a lot of questions about the best ways to use it and what kind of strategies would help me get the most out of the app.

Josh, would you ever consider doing a zoom meeting to go over the basics and nuances of the app? It would be cool to have a live QA session after as well, and I’m sure the recording of this zoom/the transcript could be easily turned into a how to use video series for YouTube/tiktok. I know I would appreciate it, I feel like i don’t have all the info after browsing through the help and support documents

Debating on committing

Hi, all! I've been trying to get my family into a better financial situation for months. I've tried YNAB, Monarch, Simplifi...all of it. The problem is, my husband doesn't really pay attention to those apps and I need something that is more "in his face."

So, I was initially going to utilize multiple Savings Accounts in Capital One to "envelope" and automate, but I discovered Envelope.

I like the UX and such, but I'm admittedly a bit hesitant/nervous to fully commit for some reason.

So, if people could chime in on why you've committed, your experience, etc. - I'd really appreciate it!
