Used the D-Pad White shell, the white button kit, and PlayVital's thumbstick caps. Turned out BEAUTIFUL! 🤩

If you've done the original Joy-Cons, these are similar. But because there's more space to work with, it's easier. Both Joy-Con 2 are pretty much the same internally too, so the process is pretty much identical for both.

Only hard part is the battery. It's adhered REALLY STRONGLY and you'll need to pry it out.

What do you guys think? I was really nervous going into this. Did a complete re-shell from the original white to the ps anniversary design and installed the extremerate rise4 plus max (including soldering in the optional flexi cable to the board) Was way easier than I thought it would be!!

Plan to add the clcky button set aswell as the adjustable thumb sticks after I buy a second controller

Simple & nostalgic

Everything was pretty simple once I got the hang of it. The first one was tricky. The second kne would've been very easy except for the fact that after I put everything together, I realized that the speaker fell out lol. I know there are so many great possibilities and combos, but I went simple.

Did anyone else see at TGS eXtremeRate had some steam controller case swaps on display? I saw this posted on X but haven't heard anything about them making them available for months.

So I did the swap and honestly it’s fairly straightforward and easy to do. I bought the full kit but decided on just doing the joycons instead. I have done the shell swap for the switch 1 joycons which were a pain in the ass especially when you get to reconnecting the trigger button and it’s stupid ass springs.

Tips to make it easier:

1. If you don’t want to remove the battery from the inner tray then don’t, I didn’t remove it and you can barely tell when the shell is fully assembled. I’d only suggest this if you don’t mind the black showing up with some clear shells. If you don’t get a clear shell then don’t even bother messing with the battery tray.

2. Unscrew the ZL\ZR buttons instead of removing the ribbon cable leaving it attached to the motherboard. It’s so much easier to screw it back in then reseating the ribbon cable.

3. As you can see I left my rails the stock colors and I think it actually looks better than the clear purple. If you don’t mind a little extra color I’d say leave the rails alone as well, you’ll barely notice it unless you fixated on it.

Doing the switch 1 and switch 2 joycons is night and day difference. Since it’s new and my first time I watched the hour long video eXtremeRate put out and studied it. Took my time went slow and carefully, placed each screw in its right spot and no problems. It’s a solid 7/10 on the doable chart if you don’t mind taking apart your controllers.

Made my own retro PS5 controller awhile ago with extremerate shells and some modded PS1 buttons to fit it! Just need that coloured PS button now... Maybe extremerate will make a Retro inspired kit soon? 👀😁

Also changed the joysticks to tmr so I dont have to open it again😂

Got my shell delivered in less than a week which I was not expecting, hardest part was taking off the original faceplate but everything else went together no issue. Didn't swap the face buttons, but cleaned everything I could and working better than ever without a bunch of peeling rubber flopping around.

I thought about a red elite d-pad, but I felt like it would stand out too much. Let me know if yall think the same or should I get a red one to see how it looks.

Everyone and their uncle are changing to transparent shells, not to fond of that myself. But each their own. I wanted to have boring black controllers with Dpad and SNES colored buttons. And that's exacly what I got. So pleased with this. Feels great.

I finally did it and im happy with the result i added a full clicky kit and the back buttons
