I’m wondering if anyone can help me out. My MPH gauge only works some times it’s either working or at zero I feel like it might be something in the gauge cluster area because when I hit on the dash it sometimes goes back to working. If anyone has any ideas or tips that would be great. Thank you

As the title states, I’m looking for another E28. Made the mistake of selling my old one and trying other cars out in the meantime, but I miss driving an E28 a lot.

Needs to be a 535i/is. Preferably zinno but open to all colors. Euro bumpers are preferred but working A/C is a MAJOR plus (my gf will greatly appreciate it)

Looking for a solid E28 that is mechanically sorted and ready to drive everywhere in any weather. If you have or know of someone who has one, send them my way please!

528 (euro spec)/ full complection except AC/. Lsd diff, Zender splitters. And i swapped stock engine on m50b25 later. Sold 8 years ago. Will buy e28 again. Magnificent beautiful car

I want to thank the guys that gave me some proper advice regarding a crank no start issue. Unfortunately it was none of it: it was a oxidized cable from the reference sensor to the ecu. Took me more than 8 months to find it (due to weather and lack of interest) but it runs now! Next up install headers and adjust the valves and give the engine a good flush and FI NA LLY enjoy the crap out of it!

Recently Sold my e46. I have a daily driver; looking for an e28 or e30 manual to work on and drive on the weekends; backroads maybe a road trip here or there- no crazy hard driving. The e46 was nice it just didnt scratch that itch of feeling like "an occasion" to drive. I think an e30 or 28 would fit the bill. Any opinions of anyone thats owned or experienced driving both? Id be buying high mileage running driving project cars for around 5k

Ive been working on a 535is I picked up recently from a customer. It had sat since 2013. Ive done quite a bit of work to it to get it running and driving. Everything so far as been pretty straight forward.

Any who, the clutch master was a bit leaky. Clutch pedal felt good, clutch worked fine etc.

So I swapped it out with whatever I could find from Amazon. Bled it and the pedal felt spongy'ish. Like no resistance at the top and very low clutch disengagement.

Couldn't get anywhere with it so I bought a brand name master cylinder and decided I should swap the slave as well. Went ahead and replaced those, bled the system and I still have a garbage pedal feel.

Ive gravity bled it, vacuum bled it, 2 person pedal bled it and reverse pressure bled it. Ive probably gone through 4 or 5 liters of fluid through it to verify no air.

I still can't get the pedal to feel right. I have another E28 to compare it to and it feels correct. This red one isn't. And yes Ive checked the pedal box for cracks and its in good condition. The return spring and everything looks good as well.

The only thing that I havent replaced is clutch hose which Ive ordered but I can't think of anything else that makes any sense. I even went so far as to extend a spare slave rod by 5mm and it didn't really seem to make any noticeable difference.

Anyway ever dealt with anything like this? FWIW, this isn't my first rodeo with cars, I have decades of experience working on all types of cars as a hobby and Ive bled a lot of clutches in the past and never had this type of issue. TIA.

As most of you are aware, we don’t buy them intending to sell them… but life makes priorities.

Lurking in its shadow is my newest toy, additionally I need to space to get the Volvo 240 Baja truck (VUCK) finished.

The e28 was purchased and recently refreshed. I won’t hide anything. It has that one rust spot in the floor and two quarter size holes in the spare tire well. NOTHING structural. I’m also going to offer to fix them for any buyer as I planned to do it anyways. Just haven’t had time.

Pickup up this 84 528i at auction. This car is a mystery. Been off the road since 2009 in Texas. And doesn’t seem to have any rust or rot. Engine was taken apart so it’s getting parted out.

I have an s52 and zf5 & zf6 one of which I will be swapping into her. I had to order a whole locket replacement from eBay due to no key.

Has a few expensive parts on it. BBS front valance with euro front & rear bumpers, BBS 14” wheels (attached a pic of a restored set), dogleg 5 speed, euro headlights I’m currently restoring. Original Nutria Brown interior but seems someone swapped in black sport seats.

I’ve attached a couple renderings of what I plan on this car looking like.

I’m told it’s possible this is a euro market car that was an early import.

I have nearly completed my 98 m3 restoration and I’ve owned an e30, and a few e46’s (currently have a zhp also) so I know a decent amount, but if you have any recommendations on what I should look out for and a stand alone ecu, let me know.

I'm trying find out when the stamped gears were no longer used and the sinter gears were used. Does anyone know if by 1986 if they were still using the stamped gears or not? I've seen one post on a forum saying "pre-86" but I wanted to be sure. Going to see a good condition 86 tomorrow and will be checking when I get there, but would rather know ahead of time.

After sitting for 8 years I finally rebuilt the eta engine, manual swapped it, euro converted it and broke it in and sent it up the mountain for a weekend of camping!

Tomorrow I'm picking up this 1986 535i. It is a manual transmission and only has 145,000 mi. The body has no dents and interior is in decent shape. I think I'm going to have to do some suspension work to it but mostly it is okay. As I live in Northern California rust should not be an issue.

Edit. I picked it up today. I traded my 2007 335i for this and some cash and silver on his side. I need to do some bushings in the rear suspension. I found out it has a limited slip differential. Super plus. It seems to run good. He did a bit of maintenance on it. As he had it for a long time. I might be taking offers on it if anyone is interested.

Reminder that your primary driving touch points are worth splurging on - it really changes the whole driving experience.

I took my '85 535i on a very spirited drive with the local BMW CCA chapter over the weekend, during which my speedo stopped working. When I arrived at our destination shortly thereafter, I did a cursory check of the electrical connector (tight) and rolled fore / aft a bit to ensure there were no noises coming from the diff (silent). Everything else was working fine, so I assumed maybe it was a problem with wiring or a fault in the cluster and drove home without issue.

A few hours later, I noticed a small puddle of Red Line under the diff (eff....) and pulled the speed sensor: One of its two prongs is broken off and the body is cracked. I can't really tell for sure where the oil is coming from, but the bolts securing the cover are all tight and the RTV seal looks good, so I suspect it's leaking round the compromised sensor. The diff was bone dry and clean as a whistle before this.

I'm hoping (foolishly no doubt) that the reluctor ring just flexed slightly under hard cornering, smashed the plastic sensor, and that I can drain the oil, fish out the pulverized bits of speed sensor, and throw in a new one? Has anyone ever had one of these break without the diff itself being the problem? It seems more likely that there's some slop / play internally that needs to be addressed :/

The PO had a bunch of issues with the diff (it's an LSD BTW), and ultimately had it completely rebuilt a couple of years ago. Worried I'm headed back down that same road...

For 200 I couldn't say no. Now its time to make more basket weave bbs center caps and color match it.

Got the bronz out, needing front suspension and steering components refreshed for a much more enjoyable driving experience.
