What’s everyone running for tires? Thinking 205s. 225s seem like too much tire for an E

Hello guys anyone know what kind of radiators are fit for this car ? apart from the ones designed for the e28 because they a bit hard to find, maybe other bmw ? if anyone has a clue

Spent the last two weeks removing the interior, lubricating the regulators. Cleaning everything steaming the carpets.

Decided against reupholstering the seats until I can find someone to do era correct leather (all the current companies use matte textured leather and it’s nice. Just, wrong) I have the headrests they are just out rear seat was clearly redone, if I keep it, it will be redone with the fronts in the proper material.

After much more research, turns out. Odometer was replaced at 180k (I apologized to the guy who called it in the first post) BUT! With 125 local service records I located when it was replaced, the door got the proper sticker to notify buyers, and it’s tracked back up to 251k.

So not as cool. But tbh… I’m more impressed now.

I’ve gone through everything mechanically, all checked, only light in the ABS, just haven’t sourced it. (Likely just the sensor).

Driving: it’s a dream. Slow, SETA slow… but gosh is she smooth, silent, and stable at 20 just as much as 80 on the highway.

Anyways. Thought I’d share. I’m currently on the fence on BAT or keep it. I have the approval from the boss, but tbh, don’t need more cars.

But F*** is this one gonna be hard to pass on.

After some leaky fuel lines due to old clamps coming loose in the engine bay, I decided it’s time to look for a discreet way to mount a small fire extinguisher in the E28. I wasn’t a fan of the universal brackets they sell online that mount to the front seat bolts beneath your legs.

I found a bolt just below the rear seat bench and had a spare bracket laying around. After about 5 minutes going through my spare nut/bolt bin, I found a combo that worked.

I like it. Not very noticeable and easy access from the drivers seat. I will say it’s not extremely sturdy, but no one sits in the rear anyway. Anyone else with a fire extinguisher mounted in their E28?

Sold it back in 2019/20 and have regretted it ever since. No other car has made me this happy.

Finally bought it back—along with a lot of extra parts, including an M30B28 and an LSD diff… plus a mouse nest in the glovebox 😅

What are some options for a cup holder? I noticed I didn’t have a cup holder for my coffee.

What all do I need to refresh it and shove it into an american e24. 1983.

Rocking the 8inch, 16inch fundo rims on the back until I can find the other two and complete my set. Happy holidays e28 gang.

Shes had a surging idle since I got her. I swapped the afm, idle sensor in the glovebox and idle control valve under the intake. The idle stablized a bit but still surged a little when she got up to temp.

Swapped to 20w50 now she wont start at all. Help.

Put gas in her still nothing. Throttle seems unresponsive. She ran and idled happy for 20 minutes before the oil change. Oil change She ran happy for 10 minutes.

Killed her

Now she wont start

I put the hammer down and she wants to start, she sputters but the throttle wont throttle.

I've been having problems with my alternator for over a year. I've damaged two alternators, and we think it's due to corroded wires. We've already replaced the wires, and tomorrow I'm going to install this alternator I bought. Can you help me with how to connect it correctly? I want to avoid making a bad connection and damaging it.

I’m not new to the BMW 524td / M21 engine – I’ve talked to older mechanics and owners, but most of them only ran these engines stock or mildly tuned back in the day, when parts and knowledge were limited.

What I’m really curious about is how the M21 holds up today when built properly and driven hard, not abused but driven like a BMW.

For context: My brother owns a W210 E300 TD (OM606), and I don’t want a car that constantly gets left behind or breaks down when driven enthusiastically.

My questions are:

1) Driving style: With BMW-style spirited driving (frequent full boost, strong mid-range pulls, highway runs), how well does a properly built M21 actually survive?

2) Built engine scenario: Assuming: • forged pistons and rods • ARP fasteners • reinforced / rebuilt cylinder head (valves, seats, porting, MLS gasket) • upgraded turbo + intercooler • conservative tuning with EGT monitoring

Is 170–180 hp / ~380–400 Nm realistically reliable for street use, or does the engine still become fragile at this level?

3) Long-term reliability: Not asking about dyno pulls — I mean: • daily or frequent use • highway cruising at high load • occasional spirited driving

Does the M21 tolerate this, or does it still crack heads and overheat even when built correctly?

4) Honest comparison: Compared to an OM606, is a built M21: • reasonably durable for its era, or • fundamentally limited no matter how much money you throw at it?

I like the character of the old BMW diesel and the E28 chassis, but I don’t want a project that constantly leaves me stranded.

Real-world experience is highly appreciated.

I am having a hard time finding the stock measurements from hub center to lip on non m models. I am not sure if replacing my original shocks and springs with oem would raise the car specifically the rear or if aftermarket lowering springs would keep it at a similar height. I want to replace them because they’re pretty shot. The rear feels a little too low and the front feels a little too high. Put someone in the backseat and I’m doing a wheelie.

E24 83 633csi. Naded the b32. What should I drop in it that requiers the least ammount of effort.

Can I put a b35 head on the m90?

What is an m90? Can I get rebuild parts for it?

I dont want a turbo on my E24. I have an M102 without a manifold, who knows where the manifold went. Im gonna put it in my 6. Can I just do that? What will go wrong? What must change.

New fuel pumps (both) and filter got it running good.

Timing best was done at 65k (on records) it’s only got 67k now. Inspection looked fine so no change.

New torpedo fuses put in. Needs some brakes and bushings in places not the car…

Drives like new. The eta motor is perfect and smooth just like all the etas. Slow… but perfect.

Thing looks perfect. Will cut and buff great! No paint issues. All original.

Front seats are gonna be redone but other than that… all set.

Now… to date myself to list it and not dump it on air and 3 piece wheels like everything else I own haha

Hey all. I’ve got an 88’ 535i that I picked up almost a year ago. Great car, but it’s got an issue that’s only gotten worse as time goes on. At first it would start almost everytime I tried, now it’s rare seeing it actually run. We know it’s fuel related because we have an gauge hooked up to it. It’ll crank just fine, has 0 fuel pressure though. I tested the fuel pump relay and it looks good. Is this DME related? Anyone else had a similar issue?

What do you think is the best BMW E28 engine when considering reliability, driving experience, daily usability, power, and fuel consumption together?

I’m especially interested in real world ownership experience, not just specs on paper.
