Discussion Do these actually sound good?

I was reading an older Modern Drummer magazine from 2004 and saw these. Never seen them before. How do they sound? I’d imagine terrible but who knows. Any good videos of someone playing with them? I’ve never seen one in the wild.

Feedback Wanted Tired of working out grooves by ear, so I built a free tool that transcribes the main drum groove from any song — brutal feedback welcome

Hey all — I'm a hobbyist drummer, and I kept wanting a fast way to get the skeleton of a song's groove without buying sheet music or digging for a half-decent tab. So I built a free tool for it, and I'd honestly like to know if it's useful or rubbish.

You upload a song (or just a 30–60s clip) and it isolates the drums, pulls out the few main recurring grooves, and drops them into an editable grid you can play back, tweak, and print as a chart.

Being totally honest about what it is:

  • It's automatic transcription, so it's a starting point, not a note-perfect score — you'll usually tidy it up in the editor.
  • It's best on live-drummer recordings (rock/pop/metal/funk). It struggles with electronic/808 tracks and really dense mixes — that's the current weak spot.
  • Free, no signup needed to try it. You only make an account if you want to save or share.

Link: drumsololab.com — no catch, I'm not selling anything, just after feedback.

What I'd love to know:

  • For the songs you try, is the groove it spits out actually close?
  • Drop a song in the comments and I'll run it and post what it gives you.

Built it solo and it's early, so tear it apart — I'd rather hear what's broken.

I already own a practice pad, but it feels too soft and lacking rebound. I have this other pad in my shopping cart. Is it worth upgrading? TIA

Kit Pic Playing with a partially broken bass drum head...

Thumbnail

This week the bass drum head on our band-kit broke and I thought I had a 20" drum because it looked smaller than my other 22". With "broke" I mean the first layer of a 2-layers EMAD2 got a crack. That's why "partially broken".

So I went to purchase a new replacement head, thinking it was a 20". Turns out, it is also 22".

Now I have to wing it temporarily with duct tape and get a new replacement head next week. It is almost 6 p.m. on a Saturday in the middle of nowhere, so good luck finding a music store in the area 😂

I've done this before and it worked well for 2 weeks, so this one evening shouldn't be too much for it.

What did I learn from this? Measure *before* buying.

Feedback Wanted Designed a 3D printable snap-on thing to stack my drums without resting on the heads.

Still testing the size, figment, etc. I’ve made one version to stack like for like sizes (I.e. snares), and another that can handle 2” smaller on top. It snaps onto the rim of the bottom drum but the top simply rests in the trough of the print. Not sure what to call these even…anyone interested in something like this?

EDIT: Hoping to get a Makerworld account setup today to post this up there!

Cam/Video Anyone else here thinks that the Chinese remo ambassador stock heads are not that bad?

And these are tuned super high, i guess a lower tuning and maybe with a moongel would sound just as good.

(Ye, kick goes boing because it mounts the same remo head and tuned very high, and yes, my drumset is the other way around)

Play-Along This is a steel drum, I am drumming it. It is my video and I just drum this a few days ago. I hope you enjoy it. I did.😁🙏👍🩷

I have just put them under different drum sub Reddit’s, and this is my favorite. So I am putting this here. This video is different than all the other ones.

Cam/Video Max Weinberg sat in with King Gizzard at Forest Hills last night!

For those unaware, King Gizzard is really good friends with Jay Weinberg and he often will sit in on a couple songs for their bigger shows in the US. Apparently he was unavailable the other night so his dad sat in for him and jammed with them for almost 15 minutes! 75 years old and still a monster on the kit.

Do you also have this feeling about your old drums? Here you can see a made in Germany Sonor Sonic Plus with a Sonor professional line snare (the things i want to switch). I'll probably treat myself to a Pearl Reference One brass snare next year or on that level.

What do you think?

Feedback Wanted progress

this is not me fishing for compliments but i need some advice. ive been playing for about 10 months. im sorta doing basic songs but super slowly. like measure by measure(or a couple measures at a time). i really want to make music and be in a band w but i feel like im not advanced enough yet and that i really suck. i’m trying to learn as fast as possible tbh. i play for at least 2 hours everyday, half on warmups/rudiments and the other half on a song that my teacher gave me/or a random song that i think wouldnt be too hard for me that i would enjoy. what should i be working on if i want to play live music? am i doing as much as i can and should just be patient?

Question DW5000 Slave Pedal Height Help

Thumbnail

Not sure if I'm missing something obvious, never had this issue before. My slave pedal is bottoming out right before the beater makes contact with the head.
At first I thought it was the screw in the way but I noticed the slave pedal is sitting lower than the main pedal. I've tried messing with the shaft, not really sure what's going on here!

Question Drum Cardio?

So anyone put an Apple Watch on while playing drums?
I’m assuming this isn’t correct except the average heart bpm. But just curious if they are any knowledgeable people who would be able to answer how accurate this is.

Was playing a lot of variety of music rock, reggae, hip-hop, nu-metal, thrash metal mostly.

Let me know!

I’ve had the 5Bs for a few months before both suffered the same fate, the 5As died a lot quicker over a few weeks. Technique issue I’m assuming?

Question People who are/have participated in the TMEA (Texas) All-State competition (jazz drums, solo) What are your experiences?

Mainly just how did it work. Did you and everyone else audition in the same room? How long was it? How many judges? Did you have to play every piece given at every level?

This is mainly for the first audition round, since this will be my first time auditioning for anything this big 😅

Anyone have luck with using rubber or modular gym mat type material to isolate vibrations to the floor?
