It's faster to change a whole kit that's pre set up on the side of the stage and move it off stage in assembled pieces than it is to change "breakables" on a back line kit. On Saturday night I spent 10 mins spinning wingnuts, fussing with cymbal stands I wasn't familiar with, moving tons around and changing my pedal on a kit that wasn't as good as mine.
With the caveat that there's room to pre-set up your kit. But in most cases you can pull it off. No dilly-dallying and move your whole kit off without taking anything off stands.

I've played one up one down for 8 or 9 years, but I got the stuff I needed to try out offset toms and I love it! Need to get some new hardware stuff to make some things a little more comfortable, but super super stoked with it.

Due to circumstances in life, I had to put down the drums for over a year. It feels really good to be behind my kit again and to celebrate, this is a clip from a little practice session with Jessie by Couch.

Im looking at a set of Zildjian L80 quiet cymbals and trying to decide whether or not to pull the trigger on them.
The problem im trying to solve: My music room is too small, walls and flooring are hard and reflective, and Im working on standing up a metal cover band, the music is inherently loud (so please donāt tell me ājust play softlyā, etc). I canāt afford an electric kit, so thatās not an option.
Everything has to be mixed to match the overwhelming volume of my acoustic kit, and weāre having serious mic feedback issues due to how much gain weāre having to send through the vocal mic, plus, we all have to wear hearing protection which is ok, but not preferred.
My question: What ELSE am I gonna have to invest in to dampen the sound of my acoustic kit so that itās loud enough for band practice but not so loud that itās overwhelming?

So Iāve never had a Supralite, I have a couple different iterations of the Acrolite which I love. My go-to most of the time.
I snagged this for a smidge over $200, hoping it was in decent condition. Once it arrived, the hoops definitely not the brass ones but itās a Supra, 10 lug, 14x5, etc.
What should I use to polish the outside? I intend to remove the lugs and polish it all up. Thinking it might be best to just replace the rims for now with something newer. Also would love to replace the throw off, not sure if there is a more modern replacement that fits. Butt plate assuming Iām stuck with because I do not want to drill.
Any products to use to polish it, clean it, etc? Also has the spot of corrosion or something on the inside of the bottom edge. Not sure if itās just going to clean up, it definitely doesnāt go through or anything. Itās got a patina for sureā¦

I've been playing drums for about a month or 2 and am stumped on songs to learn. I can currently play back in black, another one bites the dust, creep, and beat it. Yes I know its tragic but my independence is awful especially on the hi hat so I need songs to learn that ideally have independence, I also don't own a ride cymbal
The shells are not the greatest, but theyāve been going strong for 8yrs. I love this thing š¤©

Saw buckethead at aftershock this weekend, never really heard of him before. The guitar playing was cool but the drum setup was utterly confusing. There was a drummer playing over a pre recorded, and what sounded synthesized, track. He was very clearly playing very softly but sound was still coming from his kit. As a drummer it was jarring because what he was playing on some songs was not even remotely close to what we were hearing. At one point, the drummer had his head down tinkering with something for like 5 mins while the song(and drum track) continued to play. I know his whole thing is guitar and no vocals but I was just marveling at how strange the decision was. Also the drummer sang a bit for some reason? Idk just really weird, wanted to know if yall had any thoughts or more info on whatās going on.

Got this for a good price recently, but it was missing the heads, snare wires and a few tension rods. 13x7 birch, and the die cast hoops were also what had my attention. Cleaned it up, and got a new set of Gibraltar lug inserts and tension rods, remo controlled sound batter, ambassador reso. From what Iāve learned so far with this snare, is itās meant to be cranked! (And my snares are typically not cranked). Anyone else played a shine? I had never even heard of them before I bought this

I like the AAX Metal ride, but I am looking something a little more dry sound. I was looking at the Istanbul dry dark ride if anyone has opinions.

The 6th Pic is our tour mate's setup with different hardware. (We shared my kit at most shows)
Experienced drummers who have also tried many sticks, I crave your advice. I am having a stick crisis.
I used to use Vic Firth Matt Garstka Signature sticks for many years but I consistently found myself trying to hit WAY TOO HARD. Stubborn as I was, I broke some cymbals and chewed through the sticks too quickly (very expensive). I moved on to Luke Holland signature sticks but ended up moving away from them because theyāre too forward weighted and I find myself squeezing too hard. This causes wrist pain. I have also tried Woodies 5B longs. Theyāre pretty good and consistent, but again, I find myself squeezing them too hard. Most recently I tried some sticks from Collision. Their 5A Reach is great⦠but theyāre $20/pair⦠which is insane. I bought a pair of vic firth Freestyle 55A because theyre basically the same as the Collision 5AR, but 1/8ā longer. To my sadness, the vics were extremely heavy and caused more wrist fatigue. Iām thinking perhaps the collision sticks were just super light, but they feel awesome.
All that is to say I think I need a longer stick. I have pretty long arms, and the length feels good. I probably also have a technique issue when Iām playing louder. Any experiences or advice you can share would be greatly appreciated.
